Firmware 3.0 broke my Uncharted!

JoeFenix said:
In certain situations I could play through 3 chapters flawlessly and then crash. My disc is brand new and many others are reporting the same issue when there was none before. It's not just chapter 6 either, could be any chapter. I also doubt that my Stardust HD ''disc'' was dirty.

Definitely not disc related, Bl-Ray discs are tanks.

Overheating? Feel the bottom of your system when it freezes. Does it feel like lava?

One kinda weird thing I've noticed after 3.0 was that before, I was at 45% trophy-wise in Far Cry 2. Now it says I'm at 52% and I swear I haven't unlocked any more trophies in that game. Weird.

It also used to say I was at 44% regarding trophies in Killzone 2, now I'm at 50%. They haven't started separating DLC trophies from the original games' trophies yet, right?

Platinum no longer count towards 100%. So your percentages are altered correctly. Also the trophies split between dlc/addons has not been implemented in any game yet.

I don't know... Maybe Platinum trophies aren't included anymore in the total percentage. Just a wild guess though, I must check it out...

Edit: beaten :(

Wait, what?!
What output are you on, optical or hdmi?

Can we get confirmation from others on this?

(I haven't yet updated, and sure won't be now)

It decided to start working again for the time being, I'm guessing it's a bug because of my set-up where I run an hdmi cable from my ps3 to my tv, and then i use the optical out on my tv to my receiver. So yeah, if you're not connected directly to your receiver, you may or may not have an issue. (Just to be clear, this hasn't happened ever pre-3.0 or on my 360)

I just did a Restore file system from the Debug menu or whatever it's called. Deleted UC update and redownloaded it. I'm testing it right now, hope this works, I'm really fucking pissed off right now!

Edit: Oh well, that didn't take long! Same damn thing, crash crash crash. This generation is a nightmare honestly!

With so many experiencing this issue, im sure there will be a 3.01 relatively soon. The only question is...why only Uncharted?

I have an 80 GB fatty, and after i did the update this morning, it automatically did the 'database updating' thingie after. I played Batman tonite for a couple hours, and my son played COD WAW earlier today for a while, and had no issues....weird.

Hearing about this in the FW thread prompted me to dust off UC and finally do my trophy run. I deleted my previous saved games, deleted the game update, and started from scratch. I've been playing all night with no problems. I'm only on Chapter 4 though...

I take that back. No serious problems. I have noticed a little bit of framerate chugs, and screen tearing. Now, I'm not the biggest Uncharted fan in the world, but I don't recall dips and tearing in my first run-through.

60GB US launch unit here.

That sucks, man.

Too much awesome, the PS3 could barely handle Uncharted's greatness (the main proof might be the tearing issue), but if you combine this with animated themes and TEH CLOCK FIX...

For those of you playing with problems...did your PS3 do the 'rebuilding database' thing after installing 3.0? Same question for those who are NOT having problems?

First i must say that i am sorry to hear that Uncharted freezes on your PS3 :(

Sony is innovating, first firmware to ever break games?
It might be a "random" (or what i shall say) problem that doesnt affect everyone. I think it was something similar with PS3 firmware 2.40 as well. I dont know if anyone had any problems with any games then, but some people had problems at least while some other people didnt have any problems with firmware 2.40.

I just played through level 6 and 7 of Uncharted and it worked without any problems here. I have the european version of Uncharted and i have a 60GB PS3 PAL version. I have updated to firmware 3.0 earlier today. My Uncharted savegames/game data were installed on my PS3 before i installed the firmware 3.0. Which PS3 do you have and which version of Uncharted do you have, the american, the european or the japanese version?

Unfortunately i have no idea why Uncharted is freezing at your PS3 though :( I hope that you find a way to fix it as soon as possible :)

Is this just on the older ones or the newer ones? A friend of mine bought Uncharted as his first game with his Slim... :lol That'd be a not-so-good first impression.
Hopefully he wont have any problems with it :) It would suck indeed if Uncharted freezes for him as well.

I have no problems so far with my 60gig launch.

My system defragged automatically after the update though. (rebuilt database).

.
This happend with my PS3 as well automaticly after i had installed the firmware 3.0. Was this defragment going on? I was curious about what this was since i hadnt seen it before.

EDIT:

My PS3 automaticly did that 'rebuilding database' thing after that i installed firmware 3.0. And i havnt had any freezes with Uncharted so far (i played through level 6 and 7).

I don't know what that is, so I guess mine didn't do it (no problems).

The good thing about slow ass PS3 firmware updates is that they let me surf the net while I'm waiting and find that the firmware is fucked. I just hit O to cancel. Problem solved for a little while anyway. Here's to hoping they just let me get back on the network and they pull 3.0 to fix it.

I have no idea, I left it updating overnight (my connection's slow as mud lately) and went to bed.

Go into the fail-safe mode and select to Restore the file system?

I mean it rebuilt the database upon installation so maybe it's the file system?

Hopefully several of people will have some kind of problem(s) with the firmware 3.0, so that Sony will fix it relatively fast like they did with firmware 2.40. I mean, it sucks if many people have problems with firmware 3.0, and of course i hope that as few people as possible will experience any problems, but if only a handful of people experience some problems with firmware 3.0, then maybe Sony will have a harder time to localize whats wrong with firmware 3.0 compared to if several of people have problems with firmware 3.0?

These threads always pop up when a new update comes out for any system.

Honestly, it's easier to blame the problem on the update data than it is to understand that maybe there is something wrong w/your system, game, or it was just a freak occurance.

I really doubt that FW 3.0 is causing massive amounts of problems.

....then again, I could be wrong! Hoping it's not the firmware. Get it sorted GAF.

Well it looks like people are reporting it freezing at various points in the game so it does seem something is wrong. When I first heard there was a problem I put it in to see if it would happen to me, and while I didn't freeze it was running noticeably choppier than usual.

Just tried uncharted and ferrari and thought the same.

The game was running flawlessly before the update, I need to stress that I'm not the only one this is happening to at all. There's a sizeable thread on gamefaqs UC boards about these same issues after updating to firmware 3.0

I tried every sensible solution and nothing works for me, it really sucks!

This is why doing stuff like the soft release "beta tests" that MS does is a good idea.

Don't release it to the world, but get a wide release on it to sort this kind of stuff out.

actually, I've found when these sort of things happen a number of people come out of the woodwork to blame anything but the most likely cause (FW update).

I remember when the first Xbox had issues with failing disc drives a lot of people started claiming the people with problems were mistreating their discs.

For me Uncharted ran just as smooth on firmware 3.0 as it did before i installed the firmware 3.0. I wonder why some people are experience problems and some arent, does anyone know what the reason can be? Afterall, the firmware 3.0 is the same worldwide (i think so at least?) and everyone who installs firmware 3.0 will have the same firmware i think. So why does some get problems and some doesnt get any problems? Sucks to hear that someone get problem(s) with the firmware :(

The only problem that i have experienced after installing firmware 3.0 is that Fat Princess freezed one time. I dont think that this is firmware 3.0 related though, since the freeze happend like 5 seconds after the host had quit the game and then the game had assigned another person to be the host. It might just have been an in-game bug or something. But other than this, lucky firmware 3.0 have worked fine for me so far at least :)

not-so-subtle push to buy Uncharted 2

Sony is so devious
How do you mean? Uncharted 2 is a brand new game, so it doesnt mean that people necessarily will have technical problem(s) with Uncharted 2 if they had some technical problem(s) with Uncharted 1 (unless there is something in the game engine that causes the freezes that are transfered from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 (i assume that parts of Uncharted 1's game engine is the same that is used in Uncharted 2 as well at least)).

EDIT: Never mind, i understand what you mean now that Tisan explained it to me :) I am sorry for the missunderstanding, english isnt my first language :\

He means that with Uncharted 1 'broken', people will have to buy Uncharted 2 for their Uncharted fix :)

Ah ok, like that, i understand, thanks for the explanation :) I am sorry for the missunderstanding, english isnt my first language :\ To implement problems in Uncharted 1 in an attempt to make more people buying Uncharted 2 would have been a devious way to try to sell more copies of Uncharted 2 indeed hehe :)

I'm glad I finished Uncharted the day before the yesterday

Though I haven't had this problem today or yesterday on UC

Just checked mine and it ran fine. I really don't want to go any further into the game out of fear it may freeze tho.

I wonder if your save file got borked through the update. I'm backing up Uncharted and SSDHD save files now just to be sure before I update.

Maybe you can backup your save file to USB flash, delete it from the HDD, and start the game anew? If it works, it would mean the save file was messed up.

Can you still get trophies on that save file after you've moved it?

It would suck having to restart everything from scratch...

How does this work, does "normal" (or what i shall say) users just test the firmware and then report back if they get any errors or problems? If yes, how does it work if someone gets problems while others doesnt doing the same thing (as in playing the same game for example)?

Cant you just saw the game while playing and in case the game freezes, then you dont have to start the game all over again (if that is what you fear)? :)

Have you tried to start the game from scratch just to test and see if that makes the game freeze or not?

I'm pretty sure you can. As long as the save file has been created after the game's trophy patch has been applied, you can move it around as long as you want (I moved it from one console to another and it was still fine, it registered all the medals and trophies correctly). Also, you cannot lose the trophies that you've won in any case, they are tied to your account, not the save file. Even if you begin the game from scratch, trophies that you got still remain.

basically, users would report problems on the PS forums.

Ugh f this firmware update. It seems tailor made to just piss me off personally, and doesn't add a thing I care about. I just got Uncharted.. and again I loved the chime!!

I'm not updating. I'm never updating. Forget PSN.

Threads are popping up on the playstation forums about the same issues, new slim owners putting the game in fresh for the first time after 3.0 update still get the issues. People with 80 gig PS3's aswell.

Some of these guys have gone through the game multiple times pre-patch and never had issues, now it freezes all the time for them. Personaly nothing I've tried works.... this is my only disc based PS3 game also, I have nothing else to play and my 360 is dead. Great times all around!

Well, it's a deduction on my part. I can't really figure out what "rebuilding database" could be outside re-ordering stuff on your HDD aka defragmenting. Also, I think it's less complex task than with a full OS like Windows so it could explain that it generally takes less time. I think it's an interesting coincidence though that we are both without any problems and both with a 60gig model. I always trusted the "true non-gimped PS3s" more than all the other bastard models until the slim. :P
