First look at new Ducktales series

Something similar happened with Hellboy when they went to animated form, I remember seeing one of the artists (Cheeks) who the studio used for the source look, then they asked him if he knew about animation, he said "No" and they went with a generic (or as close as generic one can be with Hellboy) animation look. Hopefully this comes through.

I will sacrifice every Disney series on this planet for a proper Gargoyles revival.

I know it'll never happen though, nor will it have the same impact. Gargoyles was just unique in how thematically different it was from typical disney stuff at the time, and a lot of cartoons on the air at the time as well

Nowadays, in 2016? Not all that special.

I disagree. Just because it was one of the trailblazers (along with Batman:TAS) doesn't mean it wouldn't be any less special if it did get another chance, and adhered to the same quality (or better) than before.

For example, how many cartoons currently running or are upcoming in the 2016-17 season can you think of, which has a female person of color as one of the main protagonists AND she's actually a competent female who doesn't need to be saved every few minutes? There's a number of other things that Gargoyles did back in the 90s that few, if any shows are doing in 2016, no matter how "modernized" and/or "progressive" they claim to be. All the more reason why I say we need it and more like it back out there.

Now watch the final product look like this:

No, please not like this.

I had no idea a new Ducktales series was coming out. I'm hoping it has a sweet theme song. I'm curious to see how much they take from the comics vs. the TV series. If rumors are true and there might not be Launchpad or classic TV villains, I'll be sad. as an aside, I had no idea Scrooge McDuck's original VA was still doing VA work, especially considering how old he is. Good for him :)

You've been waiting for this thread your whole life haven't you?

Oh wow, haha. Honest to goodness, I didn't even make the connection when I posted that.

But yeah, I am not too fond of jokes that hinge on a person's stupidity/incompetence. But I guess they had Launchpad in the original series and if they just had to have that kind of a character, it's better to go with the original fool.

Goddamnit, now I want to get back to my Don Rosa comics again.

If hope i'll find that leatherbound Don Rosa collection for a reasonable price (<400€) someday.

OMG YES!!!! I was really worried about the art style, but this looks great! I hope the voice cast is up to it. The original voices are classics.

More Disney revivals!!!!

This is amazing! The artsyle, the design, being a mix between Carl Barks and Paul Rudish...
Animation had a slow start rolling out of the 2000's dark age but in the last years things are looking very promising.

I really hope they use a new remix of the old OP, and something tells me is one of the things they now people expect and wont fail doing that.

Honestly I don't like it. Looks cheap - almost as bad as the recent Mickey Mouse shorts.

I can assure you those mickey mouse shorts where not fucking cheap to make.

What the fuck is wrong with some of you people?

People now that flash is a tool that can be used bad and good no? People now that the the majority of scenes of the mickey shorts where handrawn frame by frame even if a form of flash was used no?

Ok, so what is the point of doing this reboot, really? So is this supposed to be the "kitschy, next gen Gravity Falls take" on the characters' appearances or something? What on earth is wrong with Donald for one thing? He looks like a weird rag doll that got run over a car. If the staff are really such big fans of Carl Barks (and I would hope Don Rosa too) then why didn't they at least try to make the art style look a lot more like the comics? This looks like mediocre fan art or something from a bad newspaper strip. Besides his writing and storytelling style, the art of both Barks' comics and the original series are equally core to why Ducktales is still so beloved to this day and exactly why the reboot announcement was initially so exciting. Obviously nobody wanted CGI, but who wanted the show to look something like this when it was announced?

I was really hoping this would mark a return to some really eye pleasing, traditional 2D core Disney art, so much for that. It's like there's this odd rule now between artists and execs with 2D animation that you have to make characters look distorted and overly silly otherwise it's feared kids won't like or relate to it somehow. Either that or the artists are just trying to leave their own mark as a priority over legacy. Anyways, when Terry McGovern confirmed none of the VAs were being asked back that killed a lot of interest I had early on. I wasn't expecting Alan Young because he's 96 but if the others were up for it they should have asked them back. I'll take a grain of salt and watch it when it airs but...ugh, this promo pic is just underwhelming and feels like a dismissive treatment to both Bark's art and the original series. Oh and Webby had to be shoe horned in of course.

Edit: Ok, after looking at the pic some more, the art style is growing on me. At least they're trying to make a classic 2D cartoon, but I still wish it matched the comics much more closely.
