First look at 'Pacific Rim 2' Jaegers via 'License! Global'

Iirc, global numbers is what gave this movie the majority of its money. It did decently in USA, WW it cleaned up

Global? Absolutely. = Worldwide: $411,002,906 (75.2% was 'international' aka rest of the world)

Especially in China. Legendary is the financier and sole reason this exists after all.

410m~ WW on a reported 190m budget is a tepid hit, assuming that budget also includes the marketing budget.

It evidently made enough to justify a sequel, but it was not a smash hit.

didnt boyega (or his production company...i didnt even know he had one) also put some of his own money into this?

What really matters is how these will look in motion. Part of what made the Jaegers in the first movie look so great was all the mechanisms shifting as they moved. It adds a necessary sense of scale to these big ass machines.

So Gipsy Danger 2.0, a rejected Gundam grunt unit combined with Striker Eureka and a salvaged Crimson Typhoon with a transformer head but without the extra arm, hmm I don't know, I'm not liking these new mech designs right now, and of course they'll never top Cherno Alpha.

Also, with Del Toro practically gone from the proyect I guess my hopes for a Mexican Jeager should be close to zero now :(

This also confirms this is indeed a sequel.

Uh I thought it was already confirmed, I mean they announced Boyega's character as Petecost's son.

Why is it called Uprising? The Jaegers rise up against humanity, who then has to resort to teamming up with Kaijus to survive?

Can their attacks get powered up too? Like use the Kaiju slicing sword right away?Rocket punch attack or electric rocket punch takes a few seconds to fire, not like 15 minutes from the first movie?

Give the jaegers a combiner mode :) Megazord , Devastator, etc.

Wish the designs were a bit more sleek but still better than a lot of Western mecha.
Going more sleek would have problems. When designing things that are supposed to be very large, adding more small details are one way of visually communicating size because they provide the illusion of distance.

For an example of this, compare the designs of the Star Destroyer and the Rebel Tantive IV at the beginning of Star Wars. The Star Destroyer is packed with detail compared to the much smaller Rebel ship.

This is not a diss to the designs in any way, but am i the only one who feels that promo is depicting literally the toys rather than the movie robots?

Like, an actual render of what the TOYS look like?

I guess they might look different in the movie, but damn they look depressingly generic. The Jaegers from PR looked iconic and unique - these look like Halo 5 armour rejects.

I wouldn't be surprised if the final design art style looks a little less anime, toy promotional materials tend to be a little more colorful and stylized.

Show me the Kaiju.

Please, when your production budget (less marketing) is $190m, then yeah, $400m ww is only good/decent.

it means they barely broke even, since they only get around 50% of the money and even less in china. if you factor in the marketing cost, they probably lost money.

I like the one on the right but don't like the anime look of the one on the left. I don't care for the color scheme of the middle Jaeger, only using blue like that, and I'm pretty sure I've unlocked that helmet in Halo 5. Overall I'm not impressed but my hype for this has been pretty low, and I LOVED the first movie.

Please, please, please be good. I loved the first one so much, digging these new designs too. Red one looks like a Veritech.

Just concept art, would look a lot better with proper effects/lighting.

1000x better than Transformers though.

So I'm up for watching some sci fi dumb and full of action tonight, but I can only do so dumb. Should I watch the first one?

lmao

I love how $400mm is good/decent on GAF.

Sure, Jan.

lol?

It's all relative to how much a studio made back from the production costs and marketing. Warcraft made $433 million but it still lost money and because of that we will never see a sequel.

For a long time it was up in the air if Pacific Rim would even get a sequel since it didn't do that great in the box office.

These look great. I really hope they go with the idea of the aliens making Jaeger-Kaiju hybrids this time. I need Mecha-Knifehead.
