They look boring as shit lmao.

The only good thing is if this follows the first movie's blueprint all of them minus Gypsy will be fucking destroyed within one action scene.

They better give Gypsy something to do because all it did was get the shit kicked out of it for two thirds of the movie as well.

Chero was cooler in the artwork than in the 5 minutes it got on screen getting shit on.

I don't know if I'll ever forgive Pacific Rim for building up hype around the robots, letting people get excited about their favorite design, and then smoking half of them in a 3 minute combat sequence.

Like, at least give us some old footage or something. I'm still salty, yes.
It frustrates me that there's a series bible that details a ton of the Jaegers and fights in the backstory that we'll probably never get to see. I'm still super salty that the animated series is going to be Pacific Rim 1.5 instead of a prequel anthology series.

Huge downgrade. Hype levels falling.

Man, so many varying opinions in this thread - some love the look, others hate them, hype increased, hype decreased, etc. Personally I think they look cool as hell, the closer they get to live-action Gundams or EVA units the better.

The blue one looks way too much like Gypsy Danger. Should have gone with the more unique designs, they made the fights a lot more interesting in the first film.

Surprised to see so many positive reactions here. Would have imagined GAF hates it.

I don't like them that much but I will wait till first trailer.

Gonna watch the movie anyway tho.

Definitely preferred the "it's the end of the world" vibe of the first film's designs. These look way too clean and stylish.

I just want to see Tacit Ronin effing up Kaiju, and I want to see what all the other named Jaegers looked like.

Not bad designs, they actually look pretty good, but one thing I loved about Pacific Rim was how fucking heavy everything felt. As long as the sound design and cinematography pulls off what the first film did, it'd be fine. The sleeker designs just make me think they are going for lighter, faster action and that's not what I want.

I don't think they look bad, but a lot more anime-y.

If it's so they can move a tiny bit faster and be a tiny bit more agile, I'm game, though.

Years after the original Kaiju menace, countries have gather and arranged to settle disputes in the Gundam Jaeger Fight.

I guess the alternate world invades with tech stolen from Gipsy Danger

If we're assuming the Planet Xers have learned from the wreck of Gypsy Danger, I really want to see two Kaiju drifting an even larger Kaiju.

The one on the right looks pretty cool but the other two not so much. Maybe they'll look better when see how they'll actually look on film at night, in the rain and chest high.

I like them.

If new bots were made to continue the fight they probably would have the benefit of all that came before and be less bucky, remember the first one was described as a box with legs when it was first created. Progress happens.

The only worry I got is the uprising part, has any movie ever had uprising the second part of it's title and succeed? I swear movies that have certain words as the second part of the title always fail.

So, I loved PacRim. Gypsy's design REALLY grew on me during the movie, always loved Striker Eureka and I KINDA liked Cherno Alpha. Ambivalent on Crimson Typhoon.

With this, I'm ambivalent again with the red machine. The tan machine looked GREAT. Gypsy Danger-wannabe looks surprisingly uninspired. The face design just looks bleh in particular. I'm hoping that the sequel doesn't slide down to mediocrity without Del Toro as a director. Even with all the critique, I thought it established its own identity VERY strongly.

It is Gipsy Danger

Didn't gipsy get blown to tiny tiny shards?

the new designs are not quirky enough, cherno was amazing because he looked like someone hit a panic button and built something purely functional rather than aesthetically designed, these just look like generic anime mechs.

I hope they remember to let the cool looking robots actually do shit this time instead having Gypsy Danger (aka most boring robot ever) hog all the kills and screentime.

Well, isn't that pretty much how it went?

Old Jeagers were built as a panic response to the Kaiju attacks.

New jeagers would be built with a lot of time and no immediate kaiju menace.

I still haven't seen the first one so knowing this is good when I finally get around to it.

It's super deliberate too - it makes some of the "cringey" dialog and hypermasculinity read in a whole different way. Same with the romance, but the best example is grizzled veteran Idris. They stop just short of putting an eye patch on him.

Even haircuts.

That was the good thing the the first movie allowed, the mixture of different generations of Jaegars. You can already see a lot of backstory and world building just with those designs. Cherno and Crimson definitely deserved a bit more, but it would be a shame to lose that sense of history. I have no idea how this connects with the first movie story wise.

Wow I never really realized this. I always viewed it in more of a homage to old Godzilla/Ultraman Tokusatsu movies. But Pacific Rim really is a live action anime! Mako's blue hair, the crazy annoying scientists, the stern father figure Stacker Pentecost! You're totally right!

I have an ever greater appreciate for this! It is similar to Speed Racer, a perfect translation to live action, but it may not be for everyone.

if the Kaiju is start going to have mech parts, it's only a matter of time for Jaeger to actually be Evangelion style monster reigned with armor and the pilot drift directly to the monster.

For ultimate uppance they should build jaegers while being in jaegers. They'll be enormous! It's the only way to be sure that you WILL be bigger than whatever comes out of that crackhole in the pacific..

I love how anime and more different aesthetic themes are making its way into mainstream movies. It is time for the East to embrace its sensibilities, and for global media to be balanced out a bit more with different styles of stories and art. :)

I got really, really sad in the first when
the pilots of Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha died
. Sadly not so much for
Idris Elba's character, I suppose because he was saving the world - a good death
.

I need to brace myself for the same shock in 2.
