I can respect this but that's precisely the reason I still dig the action in Spidey1. It's relative to where the character is up to that point. As in, he's a dude while having superior attribues, is still learning how to fight
This is completely the opposite with ASM where Garfield goes from skateboarding to Coldplay to going hand to hand with a giant lizard. There's like, no build up at all. It feels like pandering and the studio just trying to get the two on the screen togther finally.
The escalation from Green Goblin to Doc Ock was much better.
Understandable.
The skateboarding was atrocious, I mean, come on Marc Webb :-/
I actually legit lol'd when I saw him using Bing..
dat Sony product placement.
Coldplay shit wasn't as bad as the skateboard and him looking fucking stupid in that warehouse swinging on chains. My goodness, it was cringe worthy. You know, I would have much rather have had them bail out and make him get the idea of swinging by watching a Spider on his front porch, or Discovery Channel or some shit.
Like a lot of these filler scenes could've been used to develop Conners, but no, for some reason skateboarding and a 5min dunking on Flash scene is important (wouldn't have minded if it was shorter).
With that aside, I still very much so enjoyed the way they had Spidey moving during that fight scenes. Spider-Man is usually out matched by his foes, and won't win with just the basic punching and kicking. It was demonstrated pretty well with some of the Lizard scenes. The bridge scene was such a throw away imo, I think it killed it for some. He just kicks the Lizard and Liz proceeds to crawl away like a bitch. I know he had to save those people, but I'm just bitter because they used that crane guy later. Not using him or cutting out the bridge scene would've made the crane sequence more tolerable.
I can see the "build up" you're talking about. It's like when Doc Ock was going to go rob the bank in Spidey 2, then it cuts away to Peter in the bank with Aunt may. You knew some shit was gonna go down, and boy did it deliver. Or the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade right after Osborn got fired. It just shows some of the really bad pacing issues ASM had.
If anything, I feel like Sony fucked up more than Webb. Rami wasn't gonna deal with that shit after 3, so hey, hire Director who will!!
