The first gameplay footage of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots running as part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 has appeared online following a recent livestream from a Japanese YouTuber.

Clips from the broadcast quickly began circulating online, giving fans an early look at the long-awaited modern release of the 2008 stealth-action title. It appears that the in-game iPod feature is still included in this version of the game, despite questions surrounding licensed content and legacy features in older Metal Gear releases.

- "Back to main menu" option has been added to the settings like they did for MGS2/3 in Vol. 1
- Save loading screen has been redone in a style like the the menus/ui the game has
- Loading screen now shows a "loading circle" instead of the "now loading" text
- Hideblog url has been removed from the cardboardbox in one of the beginning cutscenes since that website doesn't exist anymore
- iPod is back and included
- L1 and R1 for aiming and shooting are replaced with L2 and R2 which makes sense since that replaces the context sensitivity buttons on PS3 with the adaptive triggers on PS5. Also controller buttob mapping should be included like in MC Vol. 1
- They seem to have recorded new voice lines for mentioning the now changed controller buttons

Run at smooth 60fps, loading times are fast and it has higher resolution

This release is so exciting! I never thought that I would have the chance to play this game again, especially not on modern hardware. Its a game that brings back memories of a time in my life where I was living the dream basically with the kids and the wife and a good job. It reminds me of coming home to my remodeling project after working a ten hour shift and knowing that fucking game was just in the next room begging for attention while I stared at the unfinished drywall and missing trim and lack of flooring... The last time I played this game my kids were just little shits and now they are all adults living on there own and two of them have started families. I can't wait to finally sit in my chair, turn this game on, and see what other memories I can jog free from that era. I can't wait.

Too many cutscenes and barely any gameplay. This will always be my main issue with this game. It doesnt help either that many of these cutscenes are extreme fanservice and at times rather cringe

I still loved this game when I was younger and had a lot of fun with it but as an adult my favorite will always be MGS5 because of how great the gameplay is

Game of the Generation for sure. Single handedly put the PS3 back on the race and carried it forward (with a bit of help from Uncharted 2 haha)
Final Fantasy X Laugh GIF

The fifth sun was catastrophic. There were some cringe inducing scenes on the other chapters but for the time it was pretty cool and played fantastic. The final one was nothing like that. All cringe and played like a downgrade from ***** ***** that you've just played in the previous chapter. Should have ended the game there. And the ending. My god. And yes, many people bought a PS3 for it but what saved Sony was a combination of exclusives that they no longer do, not a single game. That and the fact that Microsoft decided to sacrifice the hardcore audience in pursuit of the elusive casual. That worked wonders in USA, but not everywhere else.

If the iPod is still there, then hopefully the integral podcast is too.

For those who don't know, it's an audio commentary featuring some of the developers. There is one episode for each level and they guide you around the map and show points of interest that you may not have noticed and talk about the development of the game.

Id also add way way.....way too little score used during cutscenes making alot of them super dry and boring. You can litteraly hear crickets in the background during many scenes. Its like they ran out of music budget.

Sucks cause Mgs3 had such an intense stellar score by HGWillams that intensified so many scenes. In fact the synergy between cutscenes and score has always been one of the major draws of this series for me since the first MGS.

Will Otacon still mention this is on blu-ray and doesn't need to swap disks?
"We're actually on Steam now, Snake. No disk or console necessary. Remember when people were up in arms about our digital-only PC future? Those were the days.
- That's why you'll own nothing and be happy, Otacon."

*transmission ends*

Its a shame he never got to truly make his vision for the game. A 2 way ongoing war where the player could swing the odds one way or the other and essentially change a persistent battlefield.

Its something I still love the idea of and you can only really find it in things like antistasi on arma 3.

I think my favorite part is when Yuichi Nakamura mentions Kei-san (late Keiji Fujiwara) when Drebin starts talking.

It's incredible how much amazing voice actors are in Kojima's games, going all the way to the time of Snatcher.

Other than that, I don't think I've ever seen any other remaster getting so much care, and attention like these MGS Master Collections.

Vol. 1 had its problems, but they were fixed - it would be ideal if MGS1 run at higher framerates, but that is pretty much impossible, and for that decomp will have to be completed.

Fast loading times is gonna cut the game length in half

Never played it myself, only memory is a mate showing me a cool bit from it on his ps3

It took 2 minutes to load a save...

Then he had to go back to the main menu and load the correct save file.

Cant remember the scene, just the 5 minutes of loading.

The worst and most cringe MGS game ever. They should take advantage Kojima ain't there anymore to retcon it and make a real MGS4 that isn't retarded.

What's insane is that the gameplay loop of the first 2 chapters is actually really good.

Agreed. Then it goes downhill. In fact I remember being so disappointed that the middle eastern part with the war and factions was so short and lacked depth. I remember Kojima talking how he wanted to make a complex trust system between factions that resulted into a nothing burger

The foundations of that system are still in the game, you can assist the rebels on both maps to clear out the PMCs for you and make it easier to avoid enemies.

Weird. I remember MGS4 being quite controversial among the fan base back then. Was it that successful? I always thought it sold well but not "game of the generation" well.

I am curious to know how they liberated it from its ps3 prison
Probably because there never was "PS3 prison" to begin with; MGS4 in particular may have been closely tied to PS3 achitecture, but at the end of day, it was just another game which could have been ported properly any time Konami wanted.

It's just that, until now, they didn't find it worthwhile to spend time, and effort on it.

I'm still in shock that this is actually coming out. If I died 3 years ago, one thing I would have gone to the grave knowing was a hard fact was that MGS4 was never going to leave the PS3. Crazy that it's coming after such a long time.

Yeah you never hear people that about GTA V, TLOUP1 and all the other PS3 games that were ported over. And this is ps5 which has a lot more power then PS4.
