First Review for The Last of Us

Sometimes I question whether everyone who ever throws around "XXX is this generation's Citizen Kane", in any context and for any medium, actually knows why Citizen Kane has the legacy it does.

Well considering that "Citizen Kane moment" makes no sense at all, considering Citizen Kane's critical acclaim, I'm going to go ahead and say "no."

did i miss it ?
sh*t:(

That's a lot of hyperbole but going off of comments on twitter by reviewers there is something about the game that people need to talk about. Not sure if it's good or bad but the story definitely goes places that need to be discussed.

I can't wait for this game. It's my most anticipated game of this year.

that has to wait for the release of the game.. you will not get the discussions via the reviews.. embargoes my friend, embargoes..

Maybe the Citizen Kane moment in TLoU is just a really dope room trashing. Charles Foster really fucked up that room in that one scene.

I just pre-ordered from Amazon. They're throwing in 10 dollars worth of Instant Movie credit, so maybe I'll play the game and then rent Citizen Kane.

Who am I kidding. I'll probably just rent an Adam Sandler movie.

Just read some of the review, aka most of it:

The gameplay itself could easily have been a disappointment – broadly a mix of stealth and action, with innumerable sections of waist-high cover shooting, it doesn’t immediately offer anything new. Played with a shooter mindset, it doesn’t, in fact. However, it’s in avoiding combat when possible, incapacitating foes and only killing when absolutely, unavoidably necessary that the game stands apart. You’ll pause, consider options, listen, always aware that a mis-timed charge into action will prove fatal. You’re not playing a superhero, or even anyone as tough as Nathan Drake from Naughty Dog’s earlier Uncharted games – you’re playing a human, as fragile and vulnerable as any of us. When you are forced to fight, it’s short, sharp, shocking, and the game treats violence with almost disgust – necessary evils.

Seems conflicting, if you play it like a shooter you can progress and keep playing like a shooter. But if you play it like a stealth game, you can also progress that way and the gameplay seems better?

Dude should just say play on hard difficulty to experience the best the game has to offer.

Rent Last of Us and buy Citizen Kane on blu-ray.

I now expect gameplay of awkwardly turning over cabinets.
Lmao. Exactly what I meant earlier. A good ol' room thrashing.

Embarrassing 'review'. Provides no information you couldn't have gathered from previews minus the hyperbolic praise. Doubt they've played it.

You play review games on Normal. The only time this isn't the case is with Halo or something similar where the developers are often and actively stating they balanced the game around a difficulty other than normal and thus have set that expectation with anyone following the game.

So The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite, which transcends gaming more? Which is more art than art itself by the end of this year?

Oh wow. Little known internet website accidently leaks a review for a highly anticipated game before everyone else.

Empire is pretty well known as far as I know, have seen their magazines in Barnes and Noble and while overseas.

Edit: That was poorly worded, but I imagine one can surmise the point. Even if the latter bit makes it seem anecdotal :D They're a house name(for better or worse).

If The Last of Us scores lower on Metacritic than Uncharted 3, some people are going to go apeshit. Poop thrown at monitors and walls, weird and non important critiques of reviewers, the spectacle will probably be as good as the game.

gaming’s Citizen Kane moment?

Such a silly and pompous comment. Plus gaming already has a Citizen Kane moment in Bioshock's famous twist for instance.
