FitnessGAF: I need an emergency workout

Make the 3 he can do the best damn pull ups the judges have ever seen. They'll be so taken and inspired by his dedication to style and form they'll have no choice but to pass him.

You should probably tell him to start doing pull ups so he's ready to pass the test whenever they give it again.

If you go through with cutting off his legs DO NOT use a cordless sawzall or circular saw.

Last thing you want is a dead battery when you're halfway through the thigh.

"Your friend" needs to lose as much weight as possible in the next twelve days, and eat enough protein to not lose muscle. "Your friend" has a chance if he can lose 15 lbs or so. This will take discipline, that he obviously does not have for waiting this long to get started. My advice is to give up.
Still won't be enough. Neuromuscular adaptation takes time.

Dude just seems super weak based on your descriptions. He needs to be patient.

16.6 is a really low BMI. He needs to put on weight, definitely not losing any of it.

Of course if you cut off his legs his height would be a lot less. So maybe his BMI would come out better.

Could your friend realistically fireman carry a full grown adult down a flight of stairs? If not, he probably shouldn't be a fireman until he takes his training more seriously.

The other option is maybe they will count crossfit pull-ups which would be zero reps in real pull ups but 100 reps in crossfit pull-ups.

Is there a specific grip he needs to use for the pull ups?

If he can use any grip try going for biceps pull ups (palms of his hands facing him), or mixed grip. They are usually easier than the pronated grip.

Your friend absolutely does not deserve to be a fireman. He needs to gain about 40 pounds of lean body mass and a lot of extra character. Lots of people train really hard to be a ire man and your friend didn't at all.

Why would you sign up for a test if you're that far off the requirements?

I went for a job as a police officer some years ago, and didn't even consider that there'd be a physical test. There was, and I met the requirements timewise and numberwise, but when I pulled up to the place and there were like ex-Marines doing handstand pushups and one-arm pullups and shit, I knew I wasn't getting it. I didn't, but that's probably a good thing.

I dont understamd how this is an issue now... did he just found out about the test? There's no way he's going to be able to pull it off that quickly.

Needs to work on his grip strength, back / lats, biceps, shoulders. Maybe a really strong pre-workout?

lol

Your friend is 6ft2 and weighs 132 pounds????

Not sure if that's enough to be a fireman (I'm assuming he's an adult already) considering the physical requirements (obvious given the thread lol).

At that weight, and not being able to do pull ups.....that is awful strength honestly.

But to answer your question, no it won't be possible given the timeline.

pretty sure at that weight/height he's gonna have trouble doing well on any of the physical testing. iirc there is a substantial pull/carry portion of the exam.

edit: if he does creatin every morning it might actually give him some benefit. creatine is documented for strength in short intervals, not endurance. 2 weeks is enough to see an effect.

I dont want to be a dick, but youre friend isn't cut out to be a firefighter and should fail the exam.
Firefighter shouldn't be a) so lazy dont prepare for their job and b) can't do 10 pullups

Like i said, im not being a dick. Firefighting is an important and dangrous job, he doesn't sound right for it.

He's not ready to be a firefighter. Maybe next time he should actually train for it. It's not like the test was a secret and they didn't tell him until the last second. A lot peoples lives depend on a firefighter. The people they are responding to, fellow firefighters, and not to mention his own.

12 days? Nearly impossible. From 3 to 5-7, likely. To go from 3 to 10 would require at least a month. Pull ups are very strenuous to the biceps. There's a lot of muscle fiber tearing going on and you need proper time to rest and repair.

Agreed. Also, if those height and weight numbers are right this guy is really skinny. This is one of those situations where the test is going to do its job and weed out someone that can't do the job.

get your friend and his best friend in the room at the same time. proceed to kill his best friend in front of his eyes.

the anger in him should cause him to turn super saiyan. his power level will increase by 50 times.

Practice makes perfect, he is going to just have to practice.

Agreed. I'd love it if your friend could do the test, but he is fucked on this occasion. He's not ready and this why they have the test.
