Flower (PSN)

Wait... So the "Pure" trophy isn't level 4? Its five? I'm going to kill my self :| I've been trying for hours to get the trophy on that level.

Is 5 the last one? Because there is nothing
that can hurt you
in the last sage.

I can't figure this one out... I've collected every flower in the level, and I'm pretty sure there are at least three different colors of grass on the ground by the time I finish. Is there some secret special area to do this in?

In the final area of the level
there are three rock formations, circling the main formation with the level ending swirl thing. Fly over each formation and you'll become coloured and can paint the grass
.

Word of advice though, don't download anything while your playing as the HDD reading screws with the cinematics :lol

I have this problem without downloading anything...just when playing normally.
In some of the "cinematics", the sound is slightly stuttering. =(
Does anyone know the reason why the game is constantly accessing the HDD? The yellow HDD indicator on the PS3 is basically blinking throughout the whole game - even when you just stay on the "stage select screen" - where nothing ahs to be loaded imo.

I find this quite strange.
Anyone else notice this?

Except that - most beautiful and graphically impressive game I've ever seen (and played) - more than all the Killzones, Resident Evils etc. out there. =)
Will definitely be in my Top Ten of 2009. =)

It's 5. Five is the one where you can get electrocuted by the downed towers.

Going to be in my GOTY top 3 without a doubt.

This is the shit crazy sony fans should be praising and getting in an uproar about. Brilliant game.

Also I agreed with whoever said what they said about Nights 2. I'd love to see N2 look like this.
Preach it. This game and SSDHD never got as much attention as they deserved (maybe on GAF they did, but not elsewhere), considering they are some of the best games on the console.

What a special little game.

If anyone is interested, here's my Flower review: http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=13661

All I can say is that console online services might just be the saviour of gaming in general, if they encourage developers to try something new and risky like this.

I didn't know there were guys from PALgn here. I really like your site and am a regular visitor and occasional poster.

How's the site going? Not many competitions lately.

Glad you reviewed Flower so high, it truly deserved it.

Just got to the third level today. This game is so exceptional
And it'll only get better (well, slightly worse for a while, but only for the better).

Seriously, playing this game felt like playing Portal for the first time to me. As of right now, it's in a very good position to become my game of the year.

Yeah it feels like a truly new experience. And what a breath of fresh air that is.

The final level almost had me pumping the air with my first - it was utterly transcendent and beautiful and the precise emotional response it evoked could only be achieved in an interactive medium; that's what I think makes it special.

I set it to Feb 24 and got it. So yeah, try adding a few days just to be safe.

Never had that problem. Sometimes there's a ton of actual flowers making things hard, but the petals never bothered me. They're always trailing behind you, off-screen, aren't they ? Unless of course you're zigzagging all over the place and backtracking constantly.
to be fair I only spent 15 minutes with it total so yeah, I was zigzagging and backtracking constantly. ;)

I can honestly say I have never had an experience like this before. Its so relaxing and it just makes me feel peaceful. And you can be a completionist and not get stressed about anything. Anyone with a PS3 should own this game, its so unique.

Oh and also, I know this totally goes against what this game is about...but I would love it if they did this:
Instead of being a flower, they made you a tiny dragon, and you go around eating stuff, and you get longer and bigger. (Yes, it sounds like Nobi Nobi Boy) Whenever I see the flowers trailing in the back, I just can't help but image how cool it would be to be a flying dragon. Lair was too much of a disappointment.

What do you guys think would be an appropriate "genre" to label Flower as? I'm not inclined to saddle it with a pre-existing one, but I fear my editor will force me to do so in my review...

Call it a Casual game, just to embarrass everything else in the genre.

That, or "other".

Flower is incredible. It embarrasses most games that use motion control, on the PS3 or otherwise.
I hate motion control, but flower IS motion control at it's finest. It's like motion control was made for flower.
Motion controlling the motion control? flower!

Tell your editor this:

Why the hell does it need a genre? Flower just shows that a game doesn't have to have a genre to be amazing, and you want to saddle it with a name that will only perpetuate imitators instead of encouraging innovation?

I'm sorry, I just hate how genres stifle innovation. Unlike movies, video game genres pigeonhole gameplay into something predictable and profitable. Flower doesn't need a genre, because it's built on an emotion, not an archetype.

It's a free-roaming aerial shooter.

Your planet is under attack by the greys and weeds. You must gather your allies, who operate under the code name P.E.T.A.L. and restore your home to its former beauty.

FUCK FLOWER IS AMAZING

I HAVE NEVER FELT SO MUCH TENSION OR SO MUCH REWARD IN MONTHS.

GOTY 2009

<----- IS NOTHING

i hope they fix the skipping cos it ruins the last level for me.

Even though drama, action/adventure, etc. do tell you a little bit about the experience of the movie, there is so much more variety within genres in movies than in games.

"Pure" kept bugging on :(

During the last part, when the structures start falling on you, I was going full speed against the right wall and it would always bug at the end and not give me the trophy. I finally got the trophy when I went against the left wall and as slow as possible.

Now I just need the "Welcome back"... easy.

Great game, I wish it was longer. I still put a good 6-7 hours on it though :D

trying to find all the secrets now without reading spoilers on where they are

level 1 - 3/3
level 2 - 3/3
level 3 - 2/3
level 4 - 2/3

(haven't replayed the last two levels yet)

i have a bad feeling that there's a secret flower in that fast racing section in level 3... no idea where the other one in level 4 is. gonna keep at it though!

I was stuck trying to find the lvl 4 one too. You gotta
go and illuminate the second pond right before you circle the last field.
