Football Thread 2012/13 |OT2| @agent_89: My sources tell me the season has started

Who gives a shit what he's like off the pitch though. I mean there is no way of us knowing for sure anyway. He seems like a nice guy, sure, plenty of people seem like they're nice guys.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be considered...just...I think people put too much stock into the "oh look he seems so nice" thinking. Giggs seemed like a perfectly loveable chap for 20 years. However it would appear he is an absolute scumbag.

We don't know these people. Never been sure why football fans are so eager to put so much emphasis on the little we get to see of them away from the pitch.

Pretty much this.

Suarez is responsible for himself. If he started behaving on the pitch and people gave him shit for it, you could have sympathy.
I was on here before saying who really cares what players are like in their personal lives, it's their on pitch antics we should concern ourselves with. The majority of people on here seemed to disagree and expressed an interest in off the pitch antics.

Thing is, when a player acts the cock off the pitch everybody seems happy to vilify them, and it makes for many, a lovely excuse to claim to dislike him on the pitch too. But then when a player acts a bit of a cock on it, we're supposed to ignore the fact that he seems a perfectly nice guy off it? Doesn't seem fair.

The real point is that most football fans find it hard to be objective when it comes to opposition players. For many, simply not liking a player for his footballing ways isn't enough. So I think it would be wrong of people, as ridiculous as it is, not to stand up (if you will) for players who are treated like pantomime villains by bias bandwagoning fans. Particularly when they're only getting run through the mill for not being on the "right" team.

The whole thing is daft, I agree. But if people are going to moan about the bad, then it's only fair others should stand up for the good.

Fucks sake. Your avatar is equally as depressing. The man should still be our manger and it makes me ill every time I think about how we sacked him for Roy Hodgson. Sounds a bit cheesy but Benitez made us all dream and gave us back our identity. Top manager and a top man.
This. We sacked Rafa Benitez for Roy Hodgson. It doesn't get any less baffling with time. And that video Arnie posted is, like he said, just one of the reasons why I won't have Rafa openly criticised for no reason. Point out his managerial flaws by all means - he wasn't perfect, but was damn near as close to a perfect manager for us as we've had in years and years.

Benitez was alright. He made some amazingly bad decisions near the end of his tenure which make it much more difficult to remember him as a complete success.

Dalglish managed to make *more* bad decisions than Benitez in a fraction of the time. He truly is the King.

Hodgson was treated terribly by the local Liverpool fan base. He was a poor decision, but precious little support was ever given to him. Those were dark days.

edit: Liverpool 0 - Man City 3

Poor Stefan. Everyone will eat their words in a few years time. Bookmark this post, he will go on to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

... =O I hope you're joking. Savic would fit in well at United but he's consistently the poorest defender I've seen playing for a top 4 club in my years watching the the premier league.

Adam Johnson and Savic are Mancini's greatest failures. Johnson because he has the talents to be the best winger in the league and Savic because he's useless. I blame Mancini entirely for Johnson's apparent 'struggles' at City. What a waste. When he rarely got minutes he'd come on and make us instantly more dynamic, plus he finished in a very classy, un-England like fashion. He scored fantastic goals in his limited opportunities but never had the time to really grow. Such a shame.

I hope he's brilliant at Sunderland.

Heading to Chelsea v Newcastle tomorrow! Looking forward to it but I think we may lose. If we win it will be high scoring game cause with their attack they should score easily against us.

I remember when Gooners were hyping him up to no end.

I still believe. He wasn't even that bad last season; bagged a couple goals and assists, despite missing quite a bit of the season through injury, ACON, stupid suspensions. He's talented; hopefully with a more traditional center forward in Giroud up front, he'll at least have a target in the box to go for when all else fails. At the very least, it's good to have a more traditional system to fall back on of pacy, technical (natural) wingers making runs to cross it into the box rather than just trying to pass our way into the penalty area. We'll see how well it works at Stoke this weekend.

Must admit, I'm worried about our game tomorrow against Fulham. I just hope the work-rate increases from the players.

Have to also wake up at 8 in the morning here to watch it. Sucks... lol

Those of you who were wondering what my view of the match was:

I made them smaller for good measure, few of the 500 pics I took.

Despite Benitez's mistakes during that last season I don't understand why he isn't employed. He should have never followed Mourinho; he wasn't going to win over those players by completely changing things right after they had won the Champions League, but he is a talented manager and deserves another shot.

I hate discussing off-topic bullshit and I hate the community board because of it. But Wilde has a really weird face and it freaks me out. No one should have perfectly porcelain skin like that. Fucking alien or demon or some shit. fuck.

Speaking of kuyt, wasn't there a match were Liverpool got a load I dodgy decisions from a ref, and afterwards it turned out the ref was kuyts next door neighbour or something. Or maybe I'm just making that up lol

Away game against Arsenal in Champions League quarter final, 07/08. Kut blatantly pulled Hleb back when he was through on goal and got away with it

Also, <3 Rafa, and always will :(

PS. Don't click on that Sun link at the top of the page

JUVEEEEEEEEEEEE - Parma tonight. Excite.

As and others are reporting we have some sort of finalized agreement with Llorente. He's coming to Juve now or next year for free, but it's definitive. The ball is in your court, president Urrutia.

If Madrid and Arsenal agreed a deal, then what relevance was Liverpool's? They could have agreed to both deals, then it would have been up to the player, but the German media reported that Sahin preferred Arsenal

There were moments of tension at Corso Galileo Ferraris in Turin yesterday. A very confused man tried to gain access to Juve's HQ, demanding a tryout at Vinovo, Juve's training grounds, saying he is a 'clone of the great Omar Sivori'. He was even wearing a Sivori jersey. They quickly escorted him to a near hospital. Amazing. There goes our top striker ...
