freeza/frieza saga is the only one I truly loved. when goku first went ssj I was freaking out. I mean I continued to watch the rest of the show, but it didnt compare.

oh yeah, brolly/broly > every other character on dbz.
not much of an anime fan these days, but I'm trying to get into naruto but I always miss the episodes when they come on CN.

First time I seen this thread, wow the cropping is pretty bad.

I loved dbz back in the past, come home from school and watch a new episode etc. I would love to watch them again but as people have said the cropping due to making it widescreen is pretty terrible!

It's a shame they could not put 4 on each dvd and give you a choice of 4:3 or not. but I guess dvd costs over profit are not alowed.

The whole thing reminds me of a tube tv calibrated totaly wrong.

Are you saying that from having watched it, or from the carefully cherry-picked shots selected by clinically insane DBZ fans with an axe to grind?

Lots of people care, the true fans of the show, THAT'S WHO!

I love how people are in denial about how the cropping isn't that bad. LOL.

Go read *THIS THREAD*

I keep going back and forth on whether I will buy this or not. I think I'm just going to wait for a friend to pick it up and see how bad the crop bothers me and make my decision then.

Wow, I havent seen this show since I was a kid and I had no idea how cleaved up it was.

I mean, I knew and had heard it was cut a lot, but people exaggerate over localizations so much. This is nuts, it's barely even the same thing half the time.

I think I've watched through most of disc 2 so far, and over broadcast version, I think I've seen what could equate to 3 new episodes, a story arc piece I've never seen, a character I've never seen, mass unedits, dramatically improved characterization and tons and tons of extremely meaty scenes that were cut.

I'll probably lose interest once it turns back to focusing on the fighting so much, but man, early DBZ unedited is a really solid show.

And yeah, I still maintain, the cropping isn't bad at all, and the widescreen is really nice. I'm liking this set, and I hope they don't change it up because of the irrelevant anime tards.

Cool. The first season set is actually pretty nice, and was nice and cheap to boot. Non-stretched on my widescreen looks good.

Too bad this will probably be the most boring of all the sets. They should just skip to Frieza Saga and skip the Namek saga then do Namek Saga last to complete the set.

Guys please listen to me very carefully. I would like to ask you for a big favor....

please please PLEASE take a moment of your time to download and listen to the following podcast by Cory and VegettoEX. This is a new podcast from the guys who run the Daizenshuu EX forums. It is a podcast that contains VERY important details and information on what exactly is wrong with the new DBZ boxset. There are far more flaws in the set than you believe. The guys also uncover Funimation's blatent deceptive advertising and reveal lots of things they said that are simply untrue about these dvds.

It is absolutely imperative you listen to this podcast. It is not boring or silly in any way. It's job is to simply inform the public about why they need to stay away from this disaster and poor excuse of a Dragonball Z dvd boxset.

Anyway here's a direct link that I hope will work(stream or right click to save):

I dunno the fact that I have to have some internet geeks explain to me why not to like something I already finished and enjoyed ( and was cheap as hell) seems kinda stupid... No offense or anything...

If you enjoyed it then that is great. But I guarantee you will not believe what you hear about some of the things that's wrong with the set, even if it is "fine" to you. All I'm asking is you at least listen to it once. Whether they're internet geeks or not is highly irrelavent. We're all geeks just by being interested in DBZ(or any anime) in the first place.

Then, Dragon Ball Z remastered DVDs.
- Season 2 available 5/22/07 (35 episodes).
- Points out that it's digitally remastered in high definition, and has a Japanese music track included with English dialogue.
- Widescreen justification: "A ways to rejuvinate the brand with a young audience and introduce them to the greatest action adventure anime ever! There's a nine-year-old born every day."

Aside from the cropping, they are unedited. The only thing that didn't make it, more in fault through Toei than Funi, is the next episode previews are not there. Other than that, it's all there.

Ok listened to it... they complained about....

*The packaging (OMG ITS SO CONFUSING)
*The Booklet ( OMG THEY MADE A TYPO)
*The Remastering Documentry ( OMG OLD WHITE GUY ACTING YOUNG)
*Widescreen ( pretty much the only valid complaint)
*Funmation Exagerrated the screen noise ( who cares its Dbz all in one set for 29 bux)
*They changed the color ( who notices these things OMG THEY PUSHED THE BLUE LEVELS AND THE NIGHT HAS SHADES OF GREEN WTF )

*The 2 million dollar equipment and how thats cheap as far as equipment goes ( WHO ****IN CARES)

*The guy who did the color restoration and his job difficulty ( OMG HE JUST PUSHES A BUTTON)

*Proggressive Scan Included ( they say its not that big a deal that they included it, but Ill bet if Funi had left it out they would have spent 30 minutes bitching about it)

* Its missing GRAIN???? ( " The grain is part of its charm" WHAT THE ****!)

These guys are acting as if they are charging extra for the remastering I mean its a budget release......ITS CHEAP...

*The english dub - ( I agree here but who the hell watches it with the dub)

Like I get that some people care about this shit... but its cheap, its readily available at any dvd place and these guys are nitpicking it to Gaming Forum levels of insanity. Ultimately I just don't care.

And yeah after listening to that podcast the fact that they are internet geeks is very relavent as no one but internet geeks will notice or care about everything minus the widescreen thing (which for me wasn't that big of a deal but I could see where it's a deal breaker for people) all that other stuff reminds me of these guys complaining to the animators about inconsistancies in their stories.......

:lol Im sorry but come on I gave those guys an hour of my life I'll never get back... I was kinda upset :lol

I mean come'on now they even attacked one of the guys who worked on the set for having prior experience in the porn industry..:lol They had an agenda and they grasped every possible straw to justify it.

I was trying to listen to the podcast, but when one guy started going on about his flat tire on some trip I just had to stop it...

I downloaded a clip at that other forum, and I have to say MAN THE GERMAN DUB IS GREAT compared to the one from the clip I saw. I would even go as far as to say that the german dub is almost on par with the japanese dub (I never really got used to SonGoku's female voice).

I hope these box sets will make it to germany including german voice overs!

Edit: Well I just watched some clips on youtube, and I have to admit that the german voice over is also cheesy as hell... nostalgia is a bitch!

So, anyways, I've been rewatching DBZ over the last month or so (Just saw the episode where Buu absorbs Gotenks and Picollo).

Final Atonement is still my favorite episode.

The frieza saga was awesome. when goku turned super saiyan, it was the coolest moment of DBZ. The rest of DBZ wasnt as good. When goku beagn improving his super saaiyan status it just wasnt the same as the first time he ever did it on namek.

You really like Dragonball.

I got the first season, and I have zero problem with it. I dont even notice this supposed horrible cropping. It's just not an issue to me when it's not in screencaps.

The only real problem I have with it is all the weird little flecks that pop up randomly. But it's a small problem and doesn't bother me all that much.

That's my point. The "issues" are non-issues, and no one needs to get all bent out of shape over this.

Can't wait for season 2.

I just finished watching the Season 1 box set and i loved it. The picture was incredible, widescreen cropping wasn't bad, heck, i don't feel like i missed out on anything. I saw heaps of episodes i hadn't seen before, or just a shitload of extra content, i'm not sure.

I love the Frieza and Cell sagas. Goku hitting SSJ is awesome, and when Gohan finally realises his potential and goes SSJ2... i just love it. haven't watched these shows in years, and i still managed to get right into them.

I loved it too until Toonami played it over and over and over and over and over again while they were dubbing(?) the newer episodes. I don't think I can ever watch that saga again.

i remember when the Ocean group used to do the dubbing for DBZ...It was actually pretty damn good.

Then the new guys started doing it and i thought it sounded awful(krillins voice sounds horrrrrrrible. Still kinda does)but i started getting used to it.

I actually love that part in story mode in DBZ:budokai called "Vegeta's Confidence". i always watch it once in awhile cause its pretty awesome.

the original japanese track still owns

I heard a while back that there was a fan project to trim DBZ to a more reasonable length (e.g., powering up for only one episode instead of three). Anyone know what became of this?

Well guys, I don't know how many of you bought the Season 2 set, but I did and I'm dissapointed. But that shouldn't come as a surprise. The whites are blown out even more than the previous set, and the English dub is even MORE ludicrous, distancing itself even further away from the original Japanese dialog. And naturally, it's still cropped.

Then we move onto the MI dvds, which were OK until I got upto disc 26 and ran into a problem.... three of the discs, containing episodes 175-201 are missing English subs. Not only that, they suffer from major and I mean MAJOR compression artifacting! They simply look awful. At least the English subs resume on disc 30 of this set. But the worst offender is how they constantly misspel character names. I mean, they actually call Vegeta "Dende", Yamucha "Yoshinoya", Dende "TinTin", Freeza "Filosa", Trunks "Terekas" and worst of all....bare with me here.....Bulma "Boogers".....B-O-O-G-E-R-S-!!!!! for Christ's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???

Anyway after giving it some thought I realize how much the cropping and overly bright contrast on the Funi season sets, and the character name screw-ups and compression artifacting on mi discs are getting on my nerves, I decided I wanted the old *official* uncut discs from Funi, so I looked around ebay and came across an auction selling the ENTIRE Funimation DBZ/DBGT catalog. Suffice to say, I got bit over excited and *won the entire lot* :)

Honestly there's no way you could've. Look at everything he included....ALL the Funi uncut DBZ dvds, ALL of DBGT *including* the lost eps, and *ALL* the movies/specials. How on earth could you have done that for 1/3rd price? I got a STEAL tonight!

The last couple of months I was at the store, I did bundle deals for people and stuff, to unload backstock we had at our warehouse. When the owner did the ordering, he stocked up on tons of shit, sometimes as many as 60 copies of one dvd, and 30-50 of a boxset. If regulars would ask, I'd cut them deals on entire runs of shit for $2-3 per.

I'm not there any more though, so...

It's funny how 10 years ago I was given a tape of a few DBZ shows, and at that time I felt like I was late to the party or something...but thinking back now, I suppose I watched it before it got really popular in the West. Actually I didn't think it would even hit the West, back then.

If I had all the time the world I'd pick this up...but I do have to wonder out of 291 episodes (692 minutes, possibly), how much of that consists of characters in a pose and groaning. :p My guess is 48 minutes.
