For you, what are the best and worst developer names?

Awesome:

Obsidian, Arkane, Troika, Slightly Mad Studios, Eidos Montreal(it just flows so well).

What the hell:

4A Games, Level-5, From Software.

Good:
Squaresoft,Electronic Arts,Core Design,Level 5,Polyphony Digital,Monolith Soft

Bad:
Sucker Punch,Quantic Dream,Epic Games,Platinum Games,Rockstar Games

Some names I find cool although they aren't necessarily the best:

Developer of Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages, named after its founders, brothers Andres, Carlos and Edmundo Bordeu. The logo is great as well.

ex-Square guys who founded the company as Alpha Star (maybe as a homage towards Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars? No idea). Don't know what it is, name just sounds cool to me, love saying it.

Sounds like Atlas, which is awesome, and gave birth to the Fatlus meme, which is hilarious. Great developer, great name.

Like :

Bullfrog , Electronic Arts , Atlus , KojiPro , Squaresoft , MonolithSoft , Eidos Montreal , Polyphony Studio , Santa Monica

Dislike :

Crapcom , Activision , ThatGameCompany , Maxis , Konomi , Naughty Dog

Good: AquaPlus
Bad: Platinum Games

Obviously their names do not represent the quality of their games (maybe in the Platinum case yes because they make great games but i think it's a poor choice for a name)

Best: Psygnosis, id (I like to read and pronounce it as "i.d." though), Polyphony Digital, Sucker Punch, Monolith (either Western or Eastern dev), Crytek, Electronic Arts, Atari, Konami, Square Enix, Slightly Mad Studios, Valve, Guerrilla, Bungie, Rockstar, Taito and others (well, I like a lot of names - they sounds cool).

Worst: Epic Games, Zynga, CyberConnect2 (just the name, of course), Gameloft, maybe others too.

Worst is Gaijin Games.

It sounds like a bunch of weeaboos trying to be ironic.

Best, anything that sounds good with "vs" before or behind it.

Worst, anything that doesn't sound good with "vs" before or behind it.

Horrible, the ironic ones the ones like that game studio, why even...

Good: Enix, From Software, tri-Ace, Atlus, Level-5
Bad: SquareEnix, Nippon Ichi Software ("NIS" would have been acceptable. Also you are not all of Japan, or Japan's number one.), People Can Fly (This is a sentence, not a name.), Neversoft (Please stop needless stabbing the Neversoft eye in your logo animations...)

How to be good: Having 'studio,' 'soft,' 'software,' 'team,' or some kind of indicator in your name is a safe bet which usually serves to indicate what you do. This is a good thing. None of my good examples besides From do this, because I felt like listing exceptionally good names.

How to be bad: Try to be hardcore, be a sentence, or use nonsensical spellings of words.

Opinions.

Good:

Argonaut
Bizarre Creations
Black Isle Studios
Camelot
Clover
Crystal Dynamics
Insomniac Games
Monolith Soft
Obsidian
Oddworld Inhabitants
Overworks
Polyphony Digital
Psygnosis
Ready at Dawn
Silicon Knights
Squaresoft
Team Andromeda
Traveller's Tales
Tri-Crescendo

Bad:

343 Industries
Epic Games
Factor 5
From Software
Luxoflux
Naughty Dog
Ninja Theory
Retro Studios
Sumo Digital
Thatgamecompany
Treyarch
Visceral Games
Zynga

Good:

Futurlab
GameFreak
Nintendo
Bungie
Ready at Dawn
Naughty Dog
Insomniac
Media Molecule
People can Fly
Halfbrick
Twisted Pixel
Traveller's Tales
Quantic Dream
Kojima Productions

Bad:
Level-5, 505 Games, 343 Industries, Ubisoft, HAL, Neversoft, Visceral Games, Mojang, Zen Studios, Kojima Productions, Armature Studios, Sony Bend (and other place-names),

No longer operates under the name, but Psygnosis was a fantastic one.

Worst: From Software. Sounds like something out of Abbot & Costello.

Edit: Interesting how some people actually have From Software as a good name. Anything that makes talking about you more difficult should automatically fall under the "bad" heading.

Zoe Mode is the worst by far. The fact that Zoe Mode was meant to be some fictional character representing the studio's target audience made it even worse.

I think Digital Illusions is a pretty good name. I also like Codemasters, it reeks of programmer's confidence and remind me of when the games industry was a lot more innocent.

Best:

ATLUS
GameFreak
Monolith Soft
TellTale Games
Platinum
Sora
Irrational Games

Worst:

Brownie Brown
Radical
THQ (Their games were pretty cool though)
Gameloft
Zynga

'343 Industries' always struck me as a weird one, since '343' isn't really a Halo thing, it's a reference to Bungie's whole '7' joke.

So they essentially named a developer after another dev's private in-joke.

What the fuck is a Starbreeze?

I like it when the studio's name is the city, like Ubisoft Montreal.

I also love Spicy Horse.

There's... a studio called A2M?

I tend to think of studio names much like band names - It's impossible to have a really good one, the best you can hope for is one that doesn't entirely suck. I can't think of a name I really love.
