Former FBI Director Mueller appointed special counsel for Trump-Russia investigation

This is what I imagine Mueller looks like:

Fox News is sweating. They are reporting on this but of course all of their guests are all spouting the "Special investigator is bad, but Mueller is a good appointment because he won't go on a witch hunt where there's no crime committed."

So many people will be brought down if he gets indicted on anything. All the conservative media, most of the GOP who defended Trump AND those who worked with him on legislation.

The outlash of him being found out will sink them all.

I hope people aren't expecting this special counsel to get convictions within the next few weeks. This is gonna take awhile. Could even take a couple years.

Yeah this is at minimum a year away from bearing fruit. Still, this is like some cosmic atonement for 11/8.

One thing to remember about the powers Meueller has been granted, he isn't just taking over the Trump-Russia investigation, he is also charged to pursue any crimes that arose or were found during the course of the investigation. That means literally anything found just for digging into this investigation even if it doesn't relate directly to the initial premise of the investigation supersedes Sessions and has arrest warrant powers. Financial crimes, federal crimes, tax evasion, anything under the purview that the DoJ can legal go after a person for is potentially fair game if the investigation leads to that.

Think Trump will fire Rod Rosenstein as retaliation? Or tweet something at 5 a.m. saying that Robert Mueller will be biased and it's another case of sour grapes?

Trump and his White House and their responses are getting old

Well that's bad news.

Not really. He could have denied the position. On top of that he removed himself from the firm so there's no conflict of interest.

Nothing about Mueller that has ever happened would suggest he's anything but an amazing choice for this. Even both parties are agreeing on that.

Why? It shows he doesn't want a conflict of interest and it also means Trump can't say he's shit because his own family used his firm

Just feel like he may have a soft spot for the Trumps... they paid his firm... anyway just going through possibilities / thinking out loud.

Doesn't mean much unless he also represented them. I think he has enough of a track record as FBI director to back him up here.

yep. unless he was one of the people advising kushner and trump, which is probably unlikely considering WilmerHale employs over a thousand attorneys, this is... not really an issue
