Wasn't his manager busted first for child porn? I'm curious if like he specifically hired a pedophile as his manager, or one of them introduced the other to it, or it was just random coincidence they both shared the same hobby.

This might be worse than that. The original charges including production of child porn, but the plea bargain includes only possession.

I don't think child porn is something you just get introduced to and learn to appreciate, I also think the chance that it was just a coincidence is highly unlikely.

Only an idiot would boycott subway at this point.

Yes, if you go to Subway after this news then you are clearly a pedophile.

I'm sure subway as a company didn't know what Jared was up to either. No reason to boycott them. Once they found out he was getting investigated, they cut all ties. Best they could have done probably.

GAF will.

You will be a weak minded pedophile because you eat at subway just as I am a weak minded anti LGBT rights bigot because I eat at chick-fil-a.

Chick-fil-a management supported anti-LGBT programs whereas, unless I'm mistaken, Subway immediately fired it's spokesperson when all of this became public. I think there's a pretty big difference in the two companies.

Man, people who eat at Chick Fil A are REALLY defensive.

It's just so easy to make a joke with it when every thread involving that place devolves into the same thing every time lol.

Why not have fun with it?

Edit: nope, not continuing. I made my crappy joke already.

1) Did Subway know about this beforehand?

2) What other sub place will make me a Meatball sub with pepperoni and bacon on it?

3) WHY DOESN'T JIMMY JOHNS HAVE A GODDAMN MEATBALL SUB?

Why would someone so famous do something so dangerous like owning kid porn?

And even so you would think that a famous person would take extra steps to keep it hidden

I don't think there would be a boycott, he was pretty strongly assocaited with the brand though. I don't think I could eat there and not think of pedophiles... Which should be enough to put anyone off their lunch, besides going to subway.

They hired him in the first place. Why would you frequent a place who hired a pedophile as a spokesperson, or at all for that matter?
If Subway knew about this aspect of him, or helped him cover it up, that would be one thing.

But I think Subway is just as surprised as the rest of us, and management from top to bottom is going "oh shit oh shit oh shit" right now, trying to distance themselves as far as possible from him.

Damn, sad it turned out this way. Don't feel bad for him, but it's always shitty when a "good" person turns out to be a creep.

He's always struck me as creepy.

3) WHY DOESN'T JIMMY JOHNS HAVE A GODDAMN MEATBALL SUB?

They are a cold sandwich chain. Entire kitchen is setup for cold sandwiches. If they want to serve anything warm, they'll need new equipment across the entire chain. I understand that its completely doable, but I'm sure Jimmy John's has looked at what it will cost them to equip every restaurant to do this and come to the conclusion that the cost isn't worth it.

So you bring it in to other threads?

"Every time CFA is mentioned the thread turns to crap so I'ma make a joke about how much I love it for reasons!"

Well done, I guess?

Subway was notified some time ago, long before this incident that Jared was doing the craigslist thing with little girls. A female franchisee owner says she reported him to Subway corporate but they didn't do anything about it. Subway denies that they ever received a report about it.

Is this equivalent to if you go to Chik-Fil-A, you hate gay people and don't believe in civil rights for everyone?

I was being sarcastic, because the post I quoted was so absurd.

An employee of theirs got busted for something he did in his free time. I mean, come on. Are people seriously going to stop eating at Subway because they didn't monitor Jared 24/7 to know that he was into some fucked up shit?

I'd understand a boycott if it was the owner, but an employee? What?

Yes. Many people will genuinely do this. Some people find it impossible to separate the actions of an employer and an employee.

Well, that's not so good then.

I'd imagine Subway quietly contacted him and said "that's not illegal, but it's not good either, so knock it off" and left it at that so not to draw attention. But they should have cut ties at that point.

3) WHY DOESN'T JIMMY JOHNS HAVE A GODDAMN MEATBALL SUB?

Because Jimmy Johns doesn't believe in ovens or cheeses that aren't provolone. And if you disagree then please meet their celebrity endorser.

Protip: If you can find one close by, go to Firehouse Subs. Best meatball sub I've ever had from a chain restaurant.

Didn't Subway cut ties with Jared, like...a while ago?

Only after the FBI investigations began. And what's more, they didn't just suspend him, they completely dropped him.

I still think Subway knew more about this then they are letting on. It's just conjecture, I admit, but people can still express their feelings with their wallets.

The Subway backlash in this thread is weird as fuck.

You really think they conspired to keep his pedo-ways under wraps for fear of brand damage? Jared hasn't been central to their advertising for years now.

Corporations do some genuinely shitty things, but this is a rather large leap in logic, barring some corroboration coming from...anywhere, anything, anyone.

Mind you, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with a boycott. However, I vehemently disagree that doing so would be immensely stupid. One, Subway benefited tremendously off of this guy's image as an everyman who lost weight eating their food. It's not shocking at all that -- given their investment in his image for so long -- something like this could hurt them. You can't just distance yourself overnight from someone that was so tied to your franchise's image for so long.

The other aspect of this is that if this person is so integral to your business's image, some hold the franchise accountable for proper vetting. People expect oversight. Maybe they honestly didn't know, and that's arguably fine. But perhaps they should have? Maybe they should have been more aware of the person they were cutting big checks to to prop up their company.

Now, I want to clarify that I'm not arguing for a boycott or suggesting anyone is a bad person for continuing to eat there. I'm just stating that I understand where people are coming from.

http://www.adweek.com/news/advertis...le-allegedly-paid-have-sex-16-year-old-166204

The FBI has subpoenaed text messages from former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle in which he allegedly admits having paid $100 for sex with a 16-year-old girl.

Business Insider reports Fogle had been messaging a woman—who formerly worked as a Subway franchisee—with whom he was having a sexual relationship. In the messages, sent in 2008, Fogle allegedly asked the woman to advertise herself on Craigslist where she would offer sex with other men while Fogle watched.

This exchange led the woman to ask Fogle, "Is this the same website you found that 16-year-old girl that you f**ked...I still can't believe you only paid $100 for her." Fogle is said to have responded, "It was amazing," according to the report.

"This allegation, if true, is appalling and is contrary to the values of our brand," said a Subway brand spokeswoman. "As previously stated, we have suspended our relationship with Jared."

Business Insider spoke with the former franchisee's lawyer; both the lawyer and the franchisee asked to remain anonymous. The woman's relationship with Fogle allegedly took place between January and June 2008.

Although the age of consent is 16 in Indiana, where Fogle lives, the FBI has subpoenaed the messages as part of an ongoing investigation, the woman's lawyer tells Business Insider. It was unclear if the messages were being sought by authorities because they could be evidence of prostitution or because of Fogle's other alleged sexual references to minors. FBI officials would neither confirm nor deny that they were requesting the messages.

The woman brought the text messages to Subway after she became uncomfortable with her relationship with Fogle, but the brand did nothing with the information, Business Insider reports.

"We have no record that this alleged complaint was ever brought to our attention," said the Subway spokeswoman. "Had it been, we would have immediately taken action."

The woman is said to have met Fogle at a Subway function and then began a six-month relationship with him. When she began feeling uncomfortable in the relationship—he also allegedly asked to meet with her under-age cousin—the woman hired a lawyer to see if she had violated her franchisee contract.

The woman requested that all marketing materials or mentions of Fogle be removed from her store location. She is also said to have told Subway upper management that Fogle should "not be interacting with young people."

This would have been right after Fogle's relationship with the franchisee ended, so 2008-2009ish, right during the time when he was the face of the franchise and he was making Subway shitloads of money.

I wonder how these people feel about Nintendo hiring multiple rapists for endorse games.

EDIT: I originally slightly misused the term sponsor. Sorry.

Question: based on what you've said and the severity of the absolutely deplorable actions of it's soon-to-be-officially ex-mascot, what do you think is most likely to happen to the chain.

My worry is those struggling stores that have franchisees barely making ends this; these are people with families and this could destroy them financially, all because of the deplorable, illegal, actions of a mascot they never met.

Again, only a fool would defend Jared's action's (child pornography is a deplorable and ugly evil thing), I'm talking soley about the company and the families that live because of it.

Barring some prior criminal misconduct, what sort of proper vetting would result in an employer being made aware of something like this?

Did the phrase "Eat Fresh" predate the Jared campaign, or was it created during, and then tied-in, to that campaign?

edit: looks like "Eat Fresh" was adopted in 2000. The first Jared commercial aired January of that year.

So I been hearing that Jared agreeing to plead guilty to possession of cp does not necessarily mean he is a pedo or watches cp. Logic goes that yes, cp was in his computer but it belonged to someone else or he didn't know about it?

How does this work? Is possession of cp the same as being a child molester in the eyes of justice?
