As many people in this thread has already stated, you have to be sick to take your own life. You are in an irrational state, and due to this state are unable to make decisions that many people in this thread rightly believe to be so sensible. It is unfortunate though that many people believe that the cure to depression is telling an irrational person to be rational again and that all things will get better from then on.
All of those who claim that the man is selfish for taking his own life, chew on this; Is he owned by anyone? Does any person victim of their own mental illness owe the world so much that they must endure the pain so you can feel warm and fuzzy about your own life? Is he or she selfish for destroying what is his or hers? Or are you the selfish one for demanding that they keep it - along with the pain - to spare your own feelings?
No, I'm not condoning suicide, I merely understand the illness that motivates those to see it as an option. I believe that anyone who sees suicide as an option is not thinking rationally and must be cared for until they are again well. I ask that those arrogant enough to suggest that a man or woman who takes their life is being selfish, think it over once more. I promise you, it is not the case.
