PC Update Improvements

Alongside the release of the Forza Horizon 3 Hot Wheels expansion we are pleased to announce numerous critical improvements included in the Windows 10 PC version of the game. These improvements are included in today's automatic update, and do not require the Hot Wheels expansion to take advantage of.

Expanded Driving Wheel Support

With the most recent update of Windows 10, Windows Creators Edition, we have expanded our list of officially supported steering wheels for PC. The full list of newly supported wheels:

· Logitech Driving Force GT
· Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel
· Logitech G920
· Logitech G29
· Logitech G25
· Logitech G27
· Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Base V1
· Fanatec CSV2
· Fanatec CSR
· Thrustmaster TS-PC
· Thrustmaster T150
· Thrustmaster T500 RS
· Thrustmaster TMX V1
· Thrustmaster TMX V2
· Thrustmaster T300RS
· Thrustmaster TX 458 Edition
· Thrustmaster TX 599 Edition
· Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition
· Thrustmaster TX F1 Edition
· Thrustmaster TX GTE Edition
· Thrustmaster RGT

Improved CPU Performance

We have observed that a large portion of players are CPU limited when trying to run Forza Horizon 3 at high frame rates, including locked 60 FPS and unlocked. By analyzing telemetry, we have developed targeted optimizations for this group of affected players by increasing the number of concurrent threads used by the render architecture. We have taken further advantage of DX12 capabilities to allow the visuals to be processed out of order during the frame, in order to reduce synchronization stalls and decrease CPU execution duration. These changes result in a significant CPU performance gain on High or Ultra settings when running on PCs of Recommended spec or better.

Updated Thread Model

We have updated our threading affinity model to make better use of all available cores. Along with this change, we have added a new graphics option to disable the new model, should you prefer. This option can be found in the Video Settings menu under ”Threaded Optimization".

More Graphical Options

We have also added some additional graphical options to improve framerate for those playing on lower specification PCs. These include:

· Dynamic Geometry Quality now has a Very Low option
· World Car Level of Detail now has a Very Low option

These are combined with some existing options to create a new ”Very Low" preset that can be used with dynamic optimization.

Additionally, all options have had their descriptions updated to include information on how each setting affects the CPU performance, GPU performance, and available VRAM, so that players can better understand the performance impact that tweaking each setting will have.

Updated Minimum Specification

Along with the performance improvements coming with this release, we are lowering the minimum specification to reduce the CPU requirement and the NVIDIA GPU requirement.

Minimum Specification

CPU
i3-4170 @ 3.7Ghz

GPU
NVIDIA GT 740 | AMD R7 250x

VRAM
2GB GDDR5

RAM
8GB

Hard Drive Type
HDD

Resolution
1280 x 720

I like how this is worded to basically say "without telemetry and DX12, none of these improvements would've been possible."

FH3 has some of the most inconsistent frame rates I've ever seen, and it never seems to ever 'stress' my GPU as much as it should.

Still, waiting for this update to see what happens...

I'm checking for update through the store, doesn't seem to be live yet? Hopefully it will go through without issues, sometimes when updating games through the Store, my installs gets corrupted leaving only the Patch files behind and deleting the main game files.

Yeah it's sad that I'm worried too about if the update will not mess up my whole game.

It's the CPU that is typically the bottleneck and the cause of inconsistent frame rates. This patch is supposed to fix that by improving CPU thread utilization/DX12 optimizations.

Nope. Patch isn't up yet. Hot Wheels is available on the store though.

Yea.. I don't get the logic of releasing an expansion first and the update that goes with it afterwards. Wouldn't you want to have the patch before the new content releases? that way theres less bitching? I'm already seeing posts in the forzamotorsports forum about ppl saying that the expansion is running like crap without the patch.

Microsoft store and first party. Are you really surprised?

Hmm, lowering minimum specs makes it look like they are pretty confident this patch will actually help performance. Has it happened before that a game actually lowers it's specs after a patch? Hopefully it delivers, as someone with an old ass cpu this sounds exciting.

They added a new Very Low graphics preset. That's why.

Before certain options are indistinguishable from low-medium-high. The new very low option probably actually fully removes whatever graphic effect the toggle is for. Plus it says 1280x720 resolution as well.

Fingers crossed this improves stuff. I'm on a 4.5ghz i5 and a GTX980 with a mix of medium and high and it stutters a lot.

On a side note, is there a solution to get this game working with steam in home streaming? I can just about get origin games working and gog is perfect , I want to play this on the big TV.

Is there any way to stream a monitor? The game runs borderless fullscreen so it should be easily captured that way

My game no longer shows in my library. I can still play it though. I wonder if it'll let me update when the update comes out if it's not showing in my library.

Lol Microsoft.

Do I have a chance to run this at a constant 1080p 30fps on high settings? AA and no image tearing is probably the most important thing to me.

I did try the the demo and I seem to get 30fps 90% of the time. I'm just not sure if other areas outside the demo are more intensive or if the demo is updated alongside the game either.

Welp, my game seems to have disappeared entirely. Anyone else?

Ok so not just me, but I think my game deleted itself.

30fps was never the bottle neck really, you can even push the res up quite a bit for 30fps, the issue is this game is just really hard to get to 60
