Forza Horizon 6 |OT| Tōge Drift

Ok after playing a bit this game is absolutely carrying the torch and this new setting is amazing. Also not sure where people are getting the handling complaints, if anything this feels slightly more realistic than FH5 - but don't get me wrong it's clearly still focused on arcade style. Also the performance from a launch title is absolutely stellar and I'm doing way better than I anticipated on my setup, even with RT on. For those trying to run RT on AMD at least, RT medium and max look near identical but the performance delta is huge. I'm averaging over 100fps with RT set to med, FSR 4.1 to quality at 4k with everything else on Extreme and I'm just on a RX9070 with a very mild oc / uv, so it's still slower than a 9070XT in RT.

Yeah, high lighting RT is not worth it. Going from high to med is about 50% more fps. I kept reflections RT on high since it barely makes any difference going further down.

The main title theme is a serious downgrade from FH5. But damn I am loving this game.

Runs like a dream on my 4090 at max RT with DLSS quality. Consistently 90+ fps at 4k. The game actually recommended me DLAA but I wasn't gonna bother.

Load up the game and nothing is recognized. Just terrible for a racing game. I know it's mainly meant for controllers, but considering how much money the game makes they should have basic support for most wheels.

Luckily, Forza EmuWheel works so I was able to get everything working. Fanatec has a settings guide and their settings make the FFB feel pretty good. I do have motion working so that's a plus as it's the same as FH5.

I have a 32:9 monitor and it works great while driving, but the cutscenes are cropped on top and bottom and in a tiny window. Also they are 30fps and go on for too long. Man what ugly characters. When the choices came up my motion was going wild so I just picked the first character but all the faces looked squished.

At 5120x1440 I'm getting around 90fps without RT on a 4090. I have had a few stutters at the beginning.

Their wheel support has always been shit. I have the Logitech Xbox wheel and I still get the 'press button 16' shit in FH5.

good burger I know some of these words GIF

In all seriousness, why bother playing an arcade racer with that setup?

I've decided to keep it since I know I will play it on release
and I'm weak
.

Map seems smaller than FH4 and 5 or it's just me? More compact, perhaps because of the city.

Now I want to play Persona 5 and watch Evangelion.
Dang, is the game growing on you? I'm still going to sit on it for a day or two, but so far I'm not straying away from my Steam refund (I can get like 2-3 games for this on Green Man Gaming, instead!)

About 5 hours in, loving it so far. Despite people crapping on the graphics upgrade it's pretty apparent if you've been playing the series a while. Also enjoying the way cars feel, slightly more natural and the engine sounds are definitely more aggressive.

We're finally in Japan! Highway racing! Togue! Drifting! Kanjozoku shenanigans!

Nope, how about you do a bunch of fucking off-road races in oversized pickup trucks and SUVs.

5 hours in, that seems to be a choice on your end.

I'm about five hours in as well. I could subconsciously be doing it to get it out of the way.

I did the same thing in FH5 as I waited for better wheel support (lol) and feel like I got burned out on the game before even getting to pavement.

Getting FOMO. Early access is cancer lol. I haven't been into racers since Project Gotham so I can't justify paying extra. Gonna go back to D4 and Crimson Desert and cry a little bit.

Played a bunch and did all of the side content prior to doing the Horizon Invitational. I'm a long time fan of the series, but I definitely have series fatigue.

On a positive note, the side missions do a good job of forcing you into a variety of vehicles which was one my primary complaints about recent entries in the series. I also frequently complained about how played out the special events that pit you against airplanes, hovercrafts, trains, etc., and so far I haven't seen that in this game. The intro felt tame in this regard and not necessarily for the better. Careful what you wish for I guess.

I'm playing on Series X and the visual qualities seems to be on par with FH5 which I'm sure will garner some ire. They still do a really bad job of modeling the underside of cars which is disappointing considering how often you are in the air or flip vehicles over.

I've encountered more bugs in this game than I can recall in all my time in previous entries. I can't get one of the photo missions to complete as it will not recognize the 3rd objective of including a secondary car in the frame. I've also gotten stuck in the environment a lot (both in cities and in the country). Turning on auto drive is an easy fix to get unstuck, but they'd probably be better off letting destructible objects break apart at any (lower) speeds. This wouldn't prevent all the causes of getting stuck but would help out tremendously.

I'm not really sure adding another type of collectable (region mascots) is welcome.

Traffic density is incredibly thin and at odds with some of the side missions I've taken on.

I think my biggest disappointment so far is the rendition of Japan as it just feels wrong. I'm sure some of that has to do with accommodating the high speed vehicles but the density of the cities is too stark and everything feels really wide. It really lacks the sense of place that all the previous entries did a far better job with.

I'll justify it for you! It's worth it. Great way to enjoy the weekend. And remember, big girls don't cry.

Forza Horizon 1 and 3 are among my favourite games of all time, so I'm genuinely happy that, after a few hours with this, it finally feels like a proper sequel to 3.

For me, 4 felt like a step backwards in both its map and progression system, and 5 pushed things even further in the wrong direction, among other issues. I don't think the series just stagnated, I genuinely think the games got worse.

With 6, though, it feels like they've finally addressed most of what held the last two games back. The map is stunning, dare I say it, it might even surpass 3's Australia, and the content and exploration systems are easily the best the series has had across all six games.

That said, I don't think the game is perfect. The main progression system is good, but I still prefer how it worked in the first game. Horizon 1 also had incredible "festival vibes" that no entry since has really come close to matching. The cringe in the dialogue does seem toned down compared to 4 and 5 (at least so far for me), but unfortunately, it's still present here.

Either way, i'm loving the game and it feels like this is where the franchise should have gone after Horizon 3.

AMD CPU here, 7800x3D. I can see occasional stutters when it goes from cutscene to driving. As said above I'm wondering if it's the ssd. But idk. Saw a little bit during driving in the city in the intro race too.

I have another PC with a 9950x3D and 5090 too, can try that tonight if can get that beefy thing installed in time.

Update: I've tried on the other PC with AMD CPU now. If I limit the framerate to 60 it's absolutely butter smooth. Zero stutter, no drops in the benchmark, lots of headroom. This is with Extreme RT and no DLSS.

However, with DLSS On and unlimited fps I can see minor dips, even tearing on a gsync compatible screen. Very strange. One benchmark run showed 2 cuts. No idea what this is about. Could DLSS add deeper dips? Cutting outside gsync range?

Cool, Ill see for myself Tuesday.

Okay managed to use Japanese voiceover with English subs.
I can now listen to dialogues without me wanting to tear off my ears !
If you wish to have a proper experience, this is the way to go.

Hey dude do you limit your g sync range in the Nvidia app? Ensure it doesn't go over your monitors refresh?

I am getting the odd tiny stutter every now and again coming out of cutscenes and I think the odd traversal stutter when moving to a new area but i feel like I might be imagining it.

Basically :
Delete or rename the JP.zip in the correct folder mentioned here.
Rename your chosen language to JP.zip (EN.zip to JP.zip for english).
In-game change language to Japanese (日本語)
And voilà ! Japanese voices with english ui/subs.

Hope it helps !

Random question, on Steam do achievements unlock properly when offline?

Normally this is a stupid question but Microsoft have a habit (see MCC) of doing this and it totally fucks things up.

I have an 8hr flight next week so tempted to get it for that, but if there isn't a decent connection I don't want to be screwed over.

No idea but it's popping both Steam achievements and Xbox achievements at the same time for me. It's weird.

I've been using Tur-Game_Controller_Order to set my simagic base as device #1. Works great. Don't need vjoy or emuwheel that way. Nothing is bound to the wheel for navigation purposes, so I bound a bunch of shit to my stream deck.

Wow dude this makes a huge difference! Anna in Japanese and the radio stations too 🙂 and all the npc's. Awesome

I just used the in-game limiter, under the video settings. I set it to 60 and flicked vsync on and dlss off and the fps is absolute rock solid.

But for some reason I see clear stutters, no imagination, when driving in a circle and looking at the background if I set dlss on and unlimited fps.
It makes little sense imo, should be smoother. Can't rule out that the gsync on my screen is borked, I currently have the screen set to 120hz, maybe dips below 120 mess up the fluidity like if I have no gsync? I'll experiment some more.

Edit: Okay, big thanks DenchDeckard DenchDeckard ! Global limit was off in Nvidia app, I tried setting it to 140fps (144hz screen). It's now extremely smooth! Thanks!
I set motion blur off too. Motion clarity is wild!

If I turn myself paranoid I can still see occasional judder but it's probably just rare fluctuations when going down a little bit below 140 now.

Yeah, I think XBox published games always do that, which is cool, but probably also maybe a reason things don't work as well offline because everything is done via their servers 🤦🏻

I'm amazed nobody had kicked off that the game needs an Xbox account and is almost effectively always online. Personally I'm not that arsed, just may delay buying it until I know I'm going to be at home.

Very nice but also it makes you realize how limited reflections are in games still.

Game is just a copy paste of FH5 engine.
I have the exact same GPU Usage maxed out as FH5.
The only increase in details comes from the fact the environment is richer and not a desert anymore.
