Forza Motorsport 4 - The Floodgates Have Opened...

Pretty much what I was thinking. Yes, AutoVista is nice and I can't wait for the narration by Clarkson, but that can't take 2 years to develop. Same with the lighting. What the hell were they doing in those 2 years? Reverse engineering the damn sun? /hyperbole

What the frig? Nobody else noticed at 3:35 in that video:

More cars, more modes, more surprises to come!

If that doesn't absolutely 100% guarantee inclusion of <insert your most desired car/track/feature here> then I don't know what does!

<insert your most desired car/track/feature here> confirmed! Wooooo hooooo!

Weather, night racing, rally, choppers and boats.

Believe.

Jokes aside, if the game "just" ends up being a revamped version of FM3 with new cars, some new tracks, alternate times of day and autovista (and other features tied to it), it's fine to me.

But I guess there will be some more surprises coming along.

That 3 screen hydraulic chair looks so amazing.

I wonder how much could such a thing cost. I could skip buying a new car for it xD

I'll read it and report back after that. ;)

Edit :
Basically, Dan said :
No comments on weather yet.
No comments on night racing yet.

Didn't he have the same "no comment" for FM3 in regards to those features?

we have the same game, but with better lighting, better LOD management, more cars on track, better replays, better sound, more cars (especially classics !), more tracks, revamped career mode, new game modes, public lobbies back, asynchronous multiplayer, alternate time of day, legal car porn aka Autovista mode and jeremy clarkson

Fixed for you. Seriously, I thought I was one of the whiny guy over here with my graphical nitpicking but it's like some of you refuse to see all the added, upgraded and fixed stuff...

And we still haven't seen everything !

Sheesh, thats a disappointment.

Wonder if they've still got the old track details from Road America too. I believe the large concrete Road and Track bridge near the end was removed 4 years ago in real life.

Ah well. Silverstone is a bummer, they've had plenty of time to work on the new layout.

I think you forgot the most important thing - updated physics :)

cockpit view is much improved imo, so thats good. Seeing the turn indicator makes me wish for a turn mastered count like shift2 has..

Yeah, wtf is that turn indicator thingy anyway? I pray to God you can turn it off.

By the way, are we still considering Alps to be a new track? I know every detail better than Maple Valley now.

i'll fix it some more.
They fixed tons of issues people seemed to have with fm3, in addition to what you mentioned:

cockpit view: more dynamic, different fov
dashboards have entirely new shaders and bump mapping
steering assist FFS !
Harder (Professional AI)
CPU can now upgrade cars.
12 / 16 cars instead of 8
what about physics ?

not to mention they modeled tons of new cars
modeled at least 25 of them with a level of detail and interactivity never approached before
at least 5 (7 ?) new locations and several tracks

probably something else i forgot to mention, certainly something else they didn't reveal yet.

If anything it's AMAZING they did all this in just 2 years.

and we don't know anything about tuning and livery editor yet ,I'm hoping for some additions there as well :)

Hopefully they fixed some of the major painting glitches- window banners, unpaintable areas, etc.

I think some speculated that it may be part of the adaptive AI/difficulty in career mode.
I won't see it anyway, no HUD FTW !

BTW, did anybody notice that in all the GC videos (AFAIK), the steering assist was still in "normal" mode so not off. I hope we can see some full no-assists footage before the end of GC.

Also, I hope that we'll have a small animation in FM4 when we win or buy a car, similar to the one we had in FM3 for gift cars. I loved that thing (especially the music !!), too bad it ended when reaching level 50... :(

Remember all the improvements and additions as the reason to why you are all excited about the game, not to mention the things we don't even know about yet.

The amount content and new ways to experience old tracks + cars + probable dlc tracks and everything else (for all intents and purposes because there's too much to list) will make this one IF not the greatest racing genre experiences in history so far.

There's no doubt about it

I think some of you don't have an idea of the magnitude of content that this game will have. It's probably on the ridiculous level already in a good way of course.

Stay focused bitches, don't let petty shit Debbie down you.

No point in wasting time and resources on updating existing tracks when they could be doing other things. This isn't GT where the devs get years and years and years to work on it.

I'm uploading a short demo with Dan showing a bit of the lighting engine on the Alps track. Nothing amazing, but still nice. Should be up in 25 minutes if my upload holds.

night racing will only be available when using nascar cars (on indianapolis oval) since, you know, they have no headlights.

The french interview with Dan basically confirmed that there's not much in changes with the livery editor. Windows are still unpaintable...

I mentioned this in another FM4 thread. Not sure what it takes to add glows from the instrument panel but with 500+ cockpits, that's a lot of work. Plus, Turn 10 would have to go back and make sure they got every indicator and light from the dash to work properly.

That Nurburgring comparison makes FM3 look silly. :p

It's up. Quality is not as good asI hoped, and I messed up and encoded at 29.97 fps. Too tired to do it again tonight, so if people shout hard enough I'll do it again tomorrow.

yeah good point i keep forgetting about that. Then again, they probably modeled those dashboards future proof from the start ?
just to clarify i don't think proper night racing is in. At best is some specific event where you only enter with certain cars etc.

Great video, but why turn the volume up then have to shout? :lol
And I wish they would kill the in-game music when they demo the game.

FM4 is looking awesome already though, even before we see the many more surprises to come.

havent read the threads last posts, so this post is just my todays experience at the gamescom.

the microsoft booth, especially forza, was dissapointing again. even more than the fm3 one.
the screens were unbelievable crap again. i dont know why most booths have those super old samsung shit. every game looks horrible.

yes, this time they built up the hydraulic 3 screen pod, but they didnt have any other wheels. just pads. fm3 had a LOT of ms wheels and 1 fanatec set up.
so this time i couldnt test the physics. i am not a pad player, so i dont see a lot of difference. cars and tires feel a bit different though. but i cant say way.

you were able to play nürburging gp and the bernese alps. had no fun with the pad and those sceens (!). so i didnt capture any videos since everything, even the laps after finishing, are known.

the hydraulic pod was amazing. if i had more space at home, i would built myself one of those. just amazing.
took the ferrari gto around the track, (no assists at all). felt different, but after 2 laps i cant tell much. i have been too amazed by the pod :D
think the car had more weight and you will adopt to the physics after a few races. didnt have that many problems.

autovista and kinect was... nice... but nothing mind blowing. it is well done. the set up was bullshit again... kinect sensor and booth guy were misplaced :/
at least the screen was good. cars look very good. but not THAT good that i am going nuts over it.

i was curios if i should get the new fanatec wheel and replace my GT2. fm4 had the "cheap" version. i didnt like it. the GT2 wheel is far better by quality standards. the rim is just plastic with some rubber like stuff at its side.

BUT, F1 2012 had the other version. wow... just wow. i love it. its a steel rim with alcantara at its sides. it just looks and feels amazing (if you like racing car wheels). force feedback was very strong. but i cant say if it is because of the game or the wheel. if someone could guarantee that the wheel is compatible to all coming systems, i would buy it.

aaah, fm4 force feedback felt stronger too. driving over curbs was very different to fm3.

i knew there wont be anything new at the gamescom. but the missing MS wheel pods were dissapointing.

Well, that sucks. Not sure if I should bother anymore. FM4 was basically the reason I wanted to go there.

It's looking great so far. My only real complaint is that the fov seems to have increased, creating (for me at least) an unpleasant and unrealistic stretching of vehicles when you pass them. Where there complaints about FM3 looking slow or something? I know increasing the fov creates an artificial sense of speed but does FM4 need it? Maybe it won't be too noticeable once I'm playing.

We do know. But the game will still be awesome.
It will be awesome enough to make me buy a new Xbox with a Gold subscription for a year, but I still feel a bit disappointed about the content of the game. More cars don't impress me, because that's the way this franchise goes and I expect nothing less from them and while I favor the inclusion of classics, it sucks that most of them are muscle cars (or at least it feels like that). Same goes for the lighting and other fixes. It's just what I expect from Turn 10, to fix those problems, because it would be awful if the permanent steering assist wasn't fixed or the lighting was still as bad as in the previous games. The other additions are neat, but again, nothing that blows my mind. Not that I expect them to blow my mind, because a 2 year dev cycle is not enough for that.

What I want to say: This game needs more tracks. Most of the included tracks are awful and boring and they just won't add enough tracks and it makes me mad, because I don't get it. It's not like they aim for accuracy when the build those tracks (Nordschleife, anyone?). I don't want to race on New York again, I don't want to see Sebring ever again, all those small shitty variations can burn in hell and Motegi can kiss my ass, but I know that I'll see them again and probably to the same extend, because there's nothing new. Rage.

Now that I'm done, I realize how horrible I must sound, like a spoiled brat, and you'll probably not believe it, but I'm genuinely looking forward to FM4. :lol Sorry for that and even though i act like I enjoy your reactions, I am disappointed about the lack of megatons. :(

ok this is the first video to really make me think "this is a huge improvement to forza 3", the nurb track isn't as dark as it was in f3, more natural colours, better car lighting, much more body movement, cockpit greatly improved in all areas.

I am ready.
