Fox News on Trash Talk (Halo 3)

Attorney General's office dude nailed it:

There is no silver bullet that's going to kill everything out there. There's no extra software. It still comes down to: the best defense for a child is an active parent.

that's actually a good report, yes it's a bit on the scare side.

in reality most parents are nothing like myself 34 father of a 10 year old.
i play games more then he does.

i know the system and the controls.

i also know which games to let him be on live with and which ones not to.

most parents here in the states just buy games, don't check ratings or even watch the kid play to see what they are up to. a real shame really.

if people don't want to hear trash talk just use wii's internet games :\

edit: wii has no voice chat games right?

You nailed it. I am a 35 year old father of an 8 year old, and I play more than him. However, I have his voice set to zero so that he never gets to hear people online under personal settings. I will not allow him to use the microphone or listen.

Yes, because the PS3 has a much better community of no racial slurs or trash talk lol.

Why bother bringing this up? The story is about XBL/ Halo 3 and is on Gametrailers, that's why I made the comparison. Neither of those have to deal with PSN. Ugh.

I think he is saying that because, it is ironically similar to XBL...and PSN.

HEHehehehe all those kids are giggling and smiling when the reporter asks "Raise your hand if you've heard the f bomb on xbox"

Then the kid was like "Yeah you get used to it" hahaha

EDIT: Whoa two rapist incidents on XBL. Thats Fucked up!

That's why I don't visit Gametrailers.
You know you don't have to read the comments section.

It is for me. I mute everyone when I play Counter-Strike and etc, if I wanna speak to friends I just use Xfire voice chat feature.
CS has probably gotten worse as time has gone on and headsets have become more common. Text-only was great...

Well, duh. All online communities have got their fair share of incompetents, but this guy is just trying to start system wars crap.

Anyways, I like the set-up you two (Hedon and Stranger) have for your kid when he plays online. My brother wants a 360 for Christmas, and I've warned my parents that XBL is not the place for kids his age (he's 12, so actually, he shouldn't have XBL at all). For his sake and others I try to tell my parents not to let him get on the service, but I think my parents might let him sign up just because it'll be Christmas. I'm just going to have to set up his Live account similar to how you have yours so he doesn't be come one of those morons.

Damn incompetents!

The only problem with my setup is that with someone the age of 12, they might be rebellious enough to go in and change the voice settings. My son will NOT change them, but then again, he is only 8 and will listen to me ;-). Not sure what he will do at the age of 12.

But I still monitor his playing online. The voice was my biggest concern. But now that it's gone, the only thing I have seen that bothers me is when people "tea bag" him, he doesn't know what it means, but he laughs.

It's kind of a shame they really don't say much if anything about the a-hole feature of Halo 3. In the rare times I've encountered abusive talk (I usually play on European times), it only lasted a couple of seconds. It's your own fault if you don't use it.

What's funny is I can bet 90% of the a-holes out there saying this crap are kids. The whole reason they do it is because they know they could never say what they say in person because they'd get their asses kicked.

All you do is listen to the voice and can tell it's a bunch of idiot kids saying abusive stuff just to get a response from people.

That's why I always play with people on mute unless I know them.

Haha, you're right, my brother probably would be rebellious and try to change the voice settings. Are the voice settings not password protected? If they are maybe I can stealth password his 360 before he jumps online.

And I can see how you're concerned with the tea bagging issue, but in my case I'd probably laugh if my brother got / started tea bagging people on XBL. As long as he doesn't know what it is (and doesn't do it in real life, dear god) it's pretty harmless IMO.

and this is news because ?? wtf is wrong w yelling at some douche on live ? :lol kidding~.

I hardly trash talk, I rather just play or pwn them at Cod4. you can avoid this. you can always mute the idiots

All video games where you can communicate through voice or text to strangers should be rated AO.

Excuse me? What is the difference between having mute and having no voice chat whatsoever? You can mute if you're playing with random people and some are being insulting. But you still have the choice when you're gaming with friends.

There's a difference.

Oh and a word of advice for the people talking about the incident with xxxGayBoyxxx, think very carefully before you post. A lot of people got banned in the other thread, so be careful :x

That's all.

I don't know if it's password protected as an option, I haven't checked. I need to look at that. Good call.

yeah, my son is 10 and i don'tthink at this point he would change anything but I have worked my ass off where my schedule gets me home when he is and if he's playing i am close enough to know what's going on or i'll be playing too.

Haha, this is my local fox news station. I saw the commercial for it, but I didn't feel like tuning in. What do you expect from a news program? They don't report anything correctly.

"But first, they have to figure out how to work the game controller"

"I didn't know there was [parental controls]"

It's more or less their fault for allowing their children to have something they don't completely understand.

Thats just silly. Its the best place for videos. Just ignore the comments/forums/user movies.

You missed the bit where I said the comments were there before the video was.

This is a stupid rapport, no surprise really since it's by FOX but anyway. The only ones to blame are the parents, and you know what? If they don't know how to fucking use a controller what about then spend an hour of your day figuring it out instead of making some stupid interview with FOX. Jesus christ I'm glad that I don't have to live with TV channels like FOX.
