Freedom Planet 2 In Development

Huh. I was imagining a sequel being in the works, but I'm still surprised it's actually happening.

Though to be honest, I expected the trio to have an adventure in space by then.

There are a lot more details on the game's website, as well as more art.

Lots more on the website.

This is great to hear :D! Love the original Freedom Planet and I hope this sequel is even better.

Hearing Flak is on board to help out with the soundtrack is great, as I loved his teams work with Before/After the Sequel alongside the original composers for Freedom Planet making amazing tracks; mixing the two has to lead to strong results :).

Hearing the differences between Adventure/Classic in the Press Release is nice too.

Hopeful that they will hit consoles alongside the PC version this time, as I would love to play Freedom Planet 2 on my Vita or my future PS4 in the future.

Edit: Taxman is on board too! Wow, this just gets better and better :D! He did a great job with the Sonic CD and Sonic 1 & 2 iOS ports, so him helping out the Freedom Planet team is a great sign.

*Falk, and he is only consulting and mastering:
Falk Au Yeong - Musician
Falk is the audio engineer of the Video Game Orchestra and has worked on the music of multiple Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles. He also has an extensive freelance career. Falk will be working with us in a consultancy role along with mastering the soundtrack release, and we can't wait to hear what he does next!

Woofle is the one who'll actually be handling the soundtrack. Not that that's a bad thing, she did a great job with the first game.

Still haven't touched the first one after buying it for WiiU :V gotta do so before the 2015 GOTY vote atleast
It already gets my vote for the overly dramatic and corny cutscenes tho. That's some B-movie gold.

That sequel artsyle change tho... looks kind of weird, but maybe because I'm used to the characters originally looking like a bunch of Sonic OCs.

Note how I say I loved Freedom Planet's soundtrack in my post ;). I love both Falk's and Woofle's work, so looking forward do seeing how it ends up :D.

Sonic 4 Saga>Sonic 3 Saga

Well, Sonic 4 wasn't horrible, but it was far from being as great as the other Genesis Sonics :l.

I will say that Sonic 4: Ep. II is a lot stronger then most give it credit for and I really enjoyed that game :).

And Christian Whitehead never made a port of Sonic 3 & K on consoles or iOS, so I have no idea why you blame him for the Sonic 3&K being weaker than the Sonic 4 games.

Christian Whitehead did jackshit for Sonic 4. That was all Dimps/Sonic Team.

That makes sense.....yah, Christian had no part in Sonic 4's development and ONLY made the Sonic CD 2011 re-release on consoles and iOS, alongside the iOS ports/remasters of Sonic 1 and 2.

It's still crazy how these characters started life as a Chinese girl's OCs and somehow ended up as the leads of a video game series.

Also hoping against hope Neera is playable. Her boss fight was awesome and her move list looked really like it was meant to be a player characters move set initially.

And CD is part of the 4 Saga. It goes CD, Metal, 1, and 2.

Dude, don't call Sonic CD "part of the Sonic 4 saga". It's a standalone product, regardless of Sega's pitiful attempts to besmirch its already hit-or-miss legacy by forcibly tying it to their half-assed sequel.

It's like referring to the original Star Wars trilogy as "part of the Ewoks Saga". Yeah, so I'll grant that the latter builds off the former, but you are doing a SEVERE disservice to the superior former product by putting the inferior latter product at the forefront.

Superior? Christian Whitehead's CD and 2 are equally as amazing in my eyes. You are doing a disservice by not recognizing the whole saga.

That's not thanks to Christian Whitehead though, but more thanks to Sega marketing trying to tie it in with those games. They definitely didn't intend to tie CD into some saga that'd mostly consist of games that'd be made almost 20 years later when they made it. :V

Sega did a disservice to Sonic CD by calling it a part of Sonic 4.
And you are doing a disservice to Sonic 2 by calling it equally as good as CD.

I didn't say 2 was equally as good as CD, I said episode 2; I was speaking of 4 still.

Regardless, all this taxman talk has me hyped for this new game.

I said nothing about Sonic 2. I was talking about Sonic 4.

If you're about to assert that Sonic 2 is now part of "the Sonic 4 saga" yet 3&K magically isn't, quit while you're ahead.

Freedom Planet is a pretty good game but it's no Sonic substitute for me. It feels more like Sparkster than Sonic, with giant levels and bosses and constant use of the "boost".

That being said, it's awesome that Taxman is involved in this and I'm totally on board on the sequel. But, please, don't make me feel that the story mode is something out of Penders Era Archie.

I only recently got the game. The Story may not be great, but I doubt it will be awful. I like Freedom Planet because it looks like a 4th-en game, but it feels like a DiMPS Sonic game.

I hope this dude is playable

Especially because his element is fire

HOLYSHIT!!!!!!!! This was tied for my game of the year when Freedom Planet 1 first hit.I never thought Id hear a sequel announced this year given they are just now getting the spade/torque DLC situated. This is a MEGATON for me!

FREEDOM PLANET TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome, the original game continues to grow on me but isn't without its small issues.
Breaking up the stages into more digestible chunks and the parry system should help.

Now let's also try to avoid checkpoints that start with me taking a giant laser to the face before I can move, the fact that was still left in one of the final dreadnought stages when I played the Wii U version much later than my original PC playthrough kinda baffled me.

For the love of god please make the stages significantly shorter. Stages dragging on way too long was a huge issue I had with the first. Even the longest stage in a game like this shouldn't reach the ten minute mark unless it's a boss fight you keep failing on or something.
Gotta agree with this. The original had mega pacing issues in both the cutscenes and stage length that i hope the sequel addresses because i loved the base gameplay

Please have less battles.

Please have shorter levels.

Please have smaller levels.

Please think about your approach to having a story.

Those are my takeaways after having finished the first game. I wasn't a fan of the game, sadly. It was enjoyable in parts, but as a whole it just got really tiresome. It's cool to see Taxman working on the physics, however. Hopefully this means a huge improvement, as the ones in Freedom Planet are rather wonky.

yooooo, freedom planet was amazing

and taxman's involved in this, plus those updated character designs and more managable levels? I need this in my veins!
