Fuck Xbox One's Disconnecting Controllers And Frustrating Inability To Fix It

Another for 'never had this issue'. Bought two Xbox One consoles on launch, they've been used in 3 different postcodes, but I've never had any of the 6 controllers used with them disconnect unless the battery ran out.

This same thing happened with the original PS3 controllers (Sixaxis). Mine would just randomly freeze for a few seconds, and it drove me fucking bonkers. Eventually bought two DualShock 3s and never had the problem again.

It was the same case though, where it wasn't happening to enough people, so I guess Sony didn't care.

I have this problem every now and then, I have my Xbox in a ikea metal cabinet and when I have the door open on the cabinet it always works and when its closed it sometimes disconnects.

I was having this issue with a controller for a couple months after the console came out, I eventually got a replacement and that was doing the exact same thing. It wasn't until I moved that the issues stopped entirely, so I honestly think that there was some kind of interference issue at work in my case. I have a Netgear N7000 Nighthawk router and every wifi enabled console hooked up (both then and now) and the only difference in my setup is my routers location. I used to have the router directly behind the xbox (behind a wall) and now it is ~17' away and above it with absolutely no controller disconnects unless the battery dies. I would recommend you try moving your router if you have wifi :/

Thanks for the tip

My modem is set up quite a ways away from the console. It's maybe 20 feet away, and separated by a floor.

I have encountered this problem too, but very rarely.

My Xbox One had a dead disk drive when I first got it so I am not too keen on sending it for service... again.

Will test if the firmware helps.

I haven't had this issue with my controllers so I can only think your problem is either a faulty controller or wireless interference from an outside source

Don't have this issue, but I do have to keep turning the controller off and then back on in order to sort out party chat issues in MCC.

So I have a Day One edition and 3 controllers all from launch and havent had any problems until now. They've worked fine regarding connecting to the console. Only issue I had was one of them had a stiff LB but it's ok now.

It all started on the March preview update and its still happening. I've tried updating the firmware on all 3 controllers and had no success.

It also seems to be worse when I use the chat adapter with my headset. Sound will start to cut out and eventually stop then the controller turns off then back on instantly. Nothing has changed apart from the March update. I'm going to try disabling all wireless signals in the room and its surrounding areas.

I will go on record as saying I had this problem regularly from launch until Titanfall shipped. The controller update that preceded the game launch fixed it for me-

Sorry if I was unclear with my response, but I've done that. Support had me double-check, too.
With which update? The one from the last few months or the "Titanfall" update?

I have three controllers at home but since the last controller update this had never happened again to me.

It hasn't happened to me yet and I've had one since launch. I hadn't heard of this until now. It sucks that it seems to be an issue for some though. Hopefully the problem gets fixed soon.

It happens to me, Day One console and controller. Happened from the start and no firmware updates have improved things.

It can happen 3 times in a few hours, or never for a few days. It's completely random.

At least with the latest update, the controller would sync quicker.

Same thing for me since launch.

It's super annoying.

I'm in the never heard of this particular issue camp. Been playing the hell out of the XBONE since day 1 and fortunately this hasn't happened to me. I use my controllers via the Energizer rechargable battery packs with docking station.

Edit: typo

My sync issues are so bad I have to send in my Xbox for warranty repair. Have literally never been able to sync wirelessly and have always had to use a USB cable to even get my 2 controllers to function.

Maybe it's related to the Microsoft custom implementation or their wireless controllers.

Reminded me of this..

Did the controller firmware update some month ago and it's still happening. It's annoying but doesn't happen frequently enough to where I'd bother going through the whole support process. Maybe if Microsoft had a guaranteed fix. Sending in a faulty thing and getting a faulty thing back sounds much more annoying than just tolerating that the connection hiccups every five hours or whatever.

I still have this fucking issue, even after all the controller firmware updates.

Doesn't happen with the PS4, PS3 or even 360.

Only for Xbox One.

So very annoying for me. Happened ALL the time.. then the firmware update seemed to help for a while but I am now back to 2-3 disconnects per night no matter what controller I use.

Can someone link to the Xbox Forums where this is being talked about? I would like to put my 45cents in.

This also happens to me, from my understanding it only affects people who got launch/early XO's.

I never had issues until the first controller update, first controller update botched it, must have been something on the original firmware vs updated firmware

Maybe I'm naïve but I thought the controller disconnects were to save battery power. It never disconnects while I'm playing and will do so if I step away for more than five minutes. I didn't have a problem before the update and I have even less of an issue now since it takes about a second for it to book right back up.

For those of you who experience disconnect issues do you have regular AA batteries or do you use the official rechargeable ones?

I use the regular and they don't seem to remain in place of which I suspect could be part of the problem.

If this solves the issue I will buy some.

Thoughts?

I can't turn the console on with the controller half the time. I end up either yelling at kinect for 5 minutes or getting up turning it on.

I've had this exact problem for a while now. No disconnect issues while the Xbox is on though. Have tried updating controllers and using different controllers to no avail.

Then after the March update, my kinect randomly stopped working and no longer powers on. Now I have no choice but to power on from the console half the time. Feels like I'm back in gen 6.

Of course, it's a launch day system too so the warranty is up. MS wants $69 + shipping to service the kinect.

Four controllers and a variety of environments (both apartment and public event settings). I'm a nod for "never experienced it." I use a combination of eneloops and one official recharge kit.

Isn't this some kind of issue with interference from other wireless devices or something?

I believe so.. This still happens to me frequently, like 2-3 times an hour. It's worse when something like a blanket is blocking the top of my controller. I've updated both of my controllers, tried different types of batteries including the play and charge kit.. Nothing makes a difference.

I'm thinking my router is interfering, but yeah, not sure. Frustrating as hell, though.

I have the sunset overdrive white console and even bought a new controller to go with it and neither will sync to my Xbox. I am gonna box up and ship out my console later today, hope the repair has a quick turnaround time.

I have a launch day console and controller (and a later Titanfall controller), and have never had the controllers lose connection unless the battery has died.

I've gone through 4 controllers and 4 consoles, and haven't been able to shake this issue. I can't think of any interfering devices, though, because I'm the only tech-knowledgeable person here and our place is really low-tech/separated from the neighbours'.

Happens to me, not every day, bit probably few times a week. Like the controller loses sync with console, seems to always cost me a death in the pos game avanced warfare. No way am I moving my router and modem, if that turns out to be the issue. Ms needs to fix this crap. My ps4 works perfectly, with no controller disconnects.

This pretty much means you have the worst hardware/software versioning luck, or you have environmental issues causing this. Which really fucking sucks. And old ex-girlfriend of mine lived in an apartment that for some reason fucked up all 360 controllers. We eventually figured out some dude living in the building was running a lab of 802.11 devices for fun, shitting up the whole spectrum for everyone in the building. Her next place, had terrible cable. She had no luck.

I think it's just bad luck. I can't think of it being interference because there's next to nothing that could be interfering with it. Everything's off when it happens, outside of the modem and the Xbox/TV.

We're in the country, so there's good distance between houses.

wow.. never heard of this before.. sounds like it's crap...

I have a day one xbox and use it everyday as it controls my cable tv.. also have have an hdmi splitter connected to it to watch it from upstairs.. i can use the controller upstairs without disconnecting (system is about 15ft going through the floor)

if it keeps disconnecting and you're right in front of the box.. as to be some kind of interference or malfunction with the console.. that is pure shit though. I'd be contacting MS and demanding a new box

edit: 4 consoles and it still does this? maan.. you must be living in a bermuda triangle zone or something.. :/

Holy s***, that's unlucky. I feel sorry for you lols, I have had maybe 3 disconnects in a 9 month time frame. I have the Kinect bundle gotten in June last year. I got a Linksys router and a modem, a cable box with it's own Wi-Fi station (the cable boxes in the other room are Wi-Fi), a Macbook Pro, a Samsung TV that also has Wi-Fi, iPhone, hmm I think that's about it for wireless signal devices.

Come to think of it, when I moved I also changed from an LG 55la7200 with built in wifi to my projector and that could have also been screwing with the controller. I don't know what it ultimately is, you could always try a different controller, but if it is anything like my case it won't help and there is something messing with the signal: anything wifi, wireless home phone maybe, other consoles? Just throwing ideas out there.
