Go to order 2 XX tickets.

$30 at the door in Philly. Online, it's an extra $10, per ticket, for who knows what the fuck, then at checkout another $5 for "processing". Philly is about 50 minutes away, and I'm seriously tempted to just drive there instead of swallowing this bullshit.

Pretty much....

Fuck Ticketmaster.

I will go out of my way to drive to a venue and purchase tickets at the box office just so none of my money goes their way. Ripoff monopoly they've got going. $12.95 convenience fee per ticket? Yeah, you know what would be a convenience? If I didn't have to pay a convenience fee.

Fuck Ticketmaster.

fuck them and LiveNation. aren't they the same company? i don't know and i don't care. FUCK 'EM!!!!

and there's nothing we can do about it! unless you happen to live next door to the venue...

/fml

Yeah, they are pretty evil. Also sick of the obligatory monthly membership fees that I have to pay here in Amsterdam if I go to a concert in Paradiso or Melkweg. 4 euros that you have to pay for fucking nothing. It's ridiculous. I try not to go to concerts to those venues anymore just because of this.

A indie record shop here sells tickets to a few local venues for face value, which is awesome. Ticketmaster can eat the biggest dick in the world for their price-gouging bullshit.

I'm getting tickets to a $20 show for next week. There's a $10.20 service fee plus a $5 fee for ordering online. I don't dare risk the show being sold out, so I'm going to have to drive to the only TM store in town to save the online fee. Ugh.

Yep, Ticketmaster blows. Luckily, most of the good, smaller venues are taking to services like TicketWeb. It's not uncommon for local record stores to sell tix to smaller shows either, which is cool too.

But for all the large concerts, it seems like Ticketmaster and LiveNation are the only real option, which means ridiculous fees. Doesn't seem like a major competitor will come any time soon either, the venues seem content with this arrangement.

Edit: Forgot about Ticketfly, which is pretty solid too.

Which is exactly how they like it. They make their money off loyal fans who will pay out the ass to make sure they score their tickets.

And yes, Ticketmaster owns LiveNation, or vice versa. Don't know how they're not cracked down on for a monopoly...

complaining about the fees but still paying them?

you're doing it wrong....

Man, price (time and parking too) wise, I made out as best I could. If I lived closer to Philly, I would have made the drive. I'm really fucking angry about it though, but I had to swallow their dirty yellowy jizz this time.

Cot damn, op, way to complain about something and then buckle in 10 mins.

At least make your anger known to the band through their twitter or facebook account.

What band?

How do they justify a fee for PRINTING YOUR OWN TICKETS??

Its mind boggling

They don't charge for mailing them to me.. but they charge for me printing them? WHY!?

Wait, this is actually true? I thought it was satire

Yes there fees blow, but what are you going to do? Its the cost of Ticketmaster doing business

You just "feel" screwed because the tickets are listed that way. What Ticketmaster should do is list one price with everything included and no one would bitch. Showing the lower price less the fees, is a shitty way for the Venue, Artist, and Ticketmaster to show bogus pricing.

Because they can, and someone, maybe not you, but someone, will pay. "Convenience" and whatnot.

What??!? This can't be right, ticketmaster said that the merger w/ live nation would lead to better value for the customer. They even told Congress this.

Well yeah, if they sold out I would die.

I am ashamed of myself :(.

Damn you The XX!

Alas, no facebook or twitter, only a neogaf account :D.

You don't think people would question why the tickets from ticketmaster are absurdly more expensive anyways?

I only buy tickets off tickets.urmusic.ca you have to be a Rogers phone customer but you can get a friend on Rogers to buy the tix and text them to you NO SERVICE FEES and all that awful Ticketmaster bullshit. I bought Tool tickets last year in Toronto they gave me front of the line 100s level tix with no service fees it was the absolute best feeling not taking an asspounding from Ticketmasters absurd charges

Not all of it is Ticketmaster. I bet in person that $30 ticket is at least $35. Ticketing has went from advertising all in pricing to advertising fake prices that don't include unavoidable fees.

Instead of raising ticket prices to account for increased expenses, the ticket prices stay the same and the fees keep going up and up. They still want to advertise "Tickets start at $30" even though they don't.

Where I work, it started at just an extra $1 or $2 and now it's regularly $6/$7 on top of the advertised pricing. I hate it because I have to hear people complain about it every day. And they're right it's ridiculous but there's nothing I can do about it. I just tell them I agree and would prefer advertised prices include all unavoidable fees but at the end of the day you just need to decide if the price including all fees is something you're willing to pay or not.

It's going to take government regulation to get it to stop.

Often times you don't have a choice. If I'm going to take a day off of work and drive 5 hours for a show, I'd rather pay the $10 in stupid fees than risk a trip for nothing. It's bullshit, but that's what I have to do.

The wort thing I saw recently was when looking at tickets for two different shows at the same venue that were a day apart, one had a fee of 6.50 and the other had a fee of 11.50. Now how does that make sense?

+1

exactly

The "Fake Prices" are what people should be complaining about.

So what you're saying is it's not going to stop.

Well here in Canada, airlines will be required to advertise prices including all fees in a couple years. Also, they actually fined a couple of telecoms for advertising like this:

Home phone from $19.99/month*

*plus system access fee, modem fee, 911 fee, hearing impaired fee, regulatory fee... Total cost per month $32.77+tax

So I have hope that it will happen at some point.

Because with mail you get them in a week sometimes more, with print at home you get them instantly. You're paying for convenience. Especially if you buy at the last minute when mailing isn't an option anymore as you won't have to wait in line at the box office to pick them up. This one is not in the same boat as the others because it's an optional service you don't have to use if you don't want too. The printing part is irrelevant, especially now since they can just scan them off your smartphone.

Pearl Jam tried fighting Ticketmaster back in the 90s and it nearly destroyed their careers.
What happened? I was looking for tickets for his solo tour earlier this year but lost enthusiasm when I saw that you had to either go through Ticketmaster or a paid fan club for (presumably) the good seats.

Oh, you live in Canada. Yeah that might happen sooner or later for you guys.

Stuck in my silly US mindset atm. Sorry about the confusion. :P

I once had a temp job at this company, posted on GAF about it a while back.

They refused to refund tickets to customers dying of cancer. They wouldn't even allow them to transfer ownership of the tickets (terms were final: either the customer - dying in a hospice - collects the tickets with their credit card and identification, or no one does).

Fucking hate them.
That doesn't even make any sense. The tickets are already paid for. They lose nothing by helping this person.

Not doing a refund is pretty despicable but at least it makes sense.

Ticketmaster had a good reason/excuse for the print your own ticket thing, that being they had to pay for equipment at the venues to scan the tickets OK fair enough so now its all been paid for many times over why hasn't that been dropped?

Exactly the same as cinemas charging extra for 3d films, that extra charge hasn't been dropped now the equipment is paid for either

Capitalism FTW!!!

i stopped buying through ticketmaster unless there was no other option. when i was going to concerts often, i saved a shit ton by avoiding them.

i love convenience fees.

my favorite is that you pay extra for everything because they accept debit cards. some places offer you lower price for paying cash, but they have to call it "discount" or some shit.

The one show is hiding $5 of the ticket price in the service charge.

I should also point out that the cheaper charge was on a ticket that was $5 cheaper before service charges. Club shows, so it was a 20 v a 25 dollar show, and the 25 dollar show had the additional 5 dollars in service charges.

I don't understand how TicketMaster is still relevant enough to enjoy their outrageous surcharges. Surely there should be alternatives at a fraction of the price that have engulfed them by now. It's happened with things a hell of a lot more complicated than concert tickets.

I just bought a ticket for Cirque du Soleil, and even though it doesn't go through a third-party ticketing agency, the $30 ticket ended up costing $44 with all the stupid convenience fees.
