If there was ever a year for Sony to finally figure out how to make their conference entertaining, this would be the year.

Good God, guys, you are making NOT want to watch Sony's Conference.

Of course I will.

They're consistently the most boring conference.

I mean, Microsoft's was worse last year, but at least it wasn't boring.

Sony just fuckin sucks. Thank GOD they're not following Nintendo this year.

Keep the best for last.

And alone. For the day. (Until the show floor opens, at least.)

2 Hours of awesome.

Last year Nintendo had a bunch of tarts with handhelds strapped to them and a failed onstage demo, Sony had an ice cream truck with a huge dangling clown head on it. I don't know what you're talking about.

2009 was decent from them.
Not really, it had a bad mid-section. Montages, GT PSP (if you don't count Translator-san of course), the bad Move and MAG demos, PSP Go fizzling out. It had a great first demo (UC2) but it didn't pick up again until around the GT5 announcement towards the end.

This year I'm hoping for more talk about PSN titles and features (they really need to), it's something that they have more or less ignored in past conferences.

Another thing Sony's got going against them this year, from my perspective, is their conference starts at 2 AM. If it's slow as usual, I might literally fall asleep. Microsoft's and Nintendo's are at 6 PM so I'll be able to watch them like a gentleman, with a cup of tea and biscuits.

I just discovered this quote from GDC 2004:

Chris Kohler, Game|Life:

Waiting for the Miyamoto keynote to start, I’m sitting three rows from the front. Close enough to see Nintendo’s resident BMOC, Reggie Fils-Aime at the front of the crowd, working it with his trademark smile and good will. He poses for pictures, he signs Wiimotes, he presses the flesh with a good natured ease that would make even the most seasoned politician weep with envy.

“Kick his ass and take his name!” someone shouted from a few rows behind me.

“Who?” answered Reggie in mid-autograph.

“Phil Harrison, front row!” Sure enough, there was Phil Harrison, seated dead center, front row. Looks like he could show up on time for Nintendo’s keynote, but not Sony’s.

With a grin and a chuckle, Reggie replies, “Some would say we’ve already done that.”

Touchdown. The crowd goes wild.

I would have paid to see that.

Wasn't that the same year one of MS's PR guys said people should buy a Xbox and Wii, and when Reggie was asked about the comment said he hopes people just buy a Wii and more Wii games?

Can't wait. Going to try to get out of work early for Sony/MS' conferences, and mysteriously coming down sick for Nintendo's. (And if I can't get out early for Sony/MS, I'll just pop some popcorn and make a day of it.)

Is G4 still around? I watched E3 last year with them.
Barely, but yes... I find there E3 coverage to have WAY TOO MUCH COMMERCIALS so I just watch stuff on you tube, but they are a very great source for watching the press conferences on your TV.

Nintendo will again stream their conference which is a plus because they did a phenominal job on it last year. Perfect stream with no issues and they had interviews with devs etc afterwards.

Nintendo has really waken up as far as how E3 should be handled.

don't forget sony's love of them charts and graphs during the mid section of their conferences.
It's always magical how each company turns into the leader of the industry depending on whose conference it is.

@arvfab No, of course it's not a 5 hour long briefing.

keep living in neverland, dawg
What is this neverland you speak of? I'm living in a reality!
It better be announced! That would then make me shut up about wanting it every year.

I usually like Sony's opening montage. The one with 'One Vision' by Queen was pretty awesome.

"Please welcome, President of SCEA, Jack Tretton"

Eeeek.
Yeah. That shit WAS awesome. Thanks for reminding me of that.

I'm hoping they bring the heat this year for sure.

I wonder how long Sony's actual presentation is going to be. I'm sure at least an hour or two of the five hour time period is dedicated to providing refreshments and just allowing a casual place for visitors to talk to the presenters/ look at random displays.

Yoshi's Island should be the only announcement that we all care about. :P
Maybe EB because they haven't released another one in NA since the SNES one.

Sony is leading the charts. And the graphs.
Which year were there the Little Big Planet charts? I rolled my eyes so far back into my head I could see my brain that year.

From an interview with Miyamoto:

Super Mario 3DS playable at E3? (We knew it was going to be there, thanks to GDC, but I never heard about it being playable.)
Next up was the as-yet-unseen Super Mario 3D: "Super Mario 3D will be a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, although that doesn't exactly convey what it is like – if you play it at E3 you will see what I mean.

Wat? I thought that it was a really creative way of showing off some boring graphs/charts.

People who though that was lame have no heart.

we'll start putting heart into our responses when Sony puts heart into their conference

If we have to sit through any form of statistics and charts this year from Sony, hopefully Kevin Butler delivers them.

I'm more interested in this year's "Gabe moment", as some people were talking about what they can do to have the same shock value. Can you imagine the shit-storm that would occur if some people from Blizzard came out and said, "and here we have Diablo 3 running on the PS3, and for those on the go, we have an intact NGP version. Battle.net will also be integrated into the games".

Will G4 be streaming the conferences online? I have DirectTV and they dropped G4 last fall.

yep. I worry about commercials but they were always commercial free for the Big 3. I'll be catching MS and Sony's on the channel and Nintendo's on their site

Sony definitely needs an announcement that no one could have predicted to actually get some buzz going at E3. The real name and price for the NGP is just not going to do it unless if they announce a ludicrous $199 price for the NGP.

I always forget how insane GAF is about Nintendo. I'm definitely excited for their conference, but damn!

Nintendo has this passive hype ability. they don't even need to formally announce an event. just have it leaked and people will go crazy. just look at that May 17th developer meeting
