NEW YORK (AP) — G Unit surprised fans when its members reunited earlier this summer at the year's biggest hip-hop concert, and they have another surprise: they digitally released six new songs Beyonce-style early Monday.

The rap group dropped "The Beauty of Independence" extended play at midnight, mirroring Beyonce's successful surprise release of her self-titled album last year. The 50 Cent-led group disbanded over the years and last released "T.O.S: Terminate on Sight" in 2008.

50 Cent said the group, which released its multiplatinum debut "Beg for Mercy" in 2003, is more mature today, and that enhanced the creativity behind the new music.

"The artist are more developed than they were in the very beginning," he said, adding that member Tony Yayo wrote two hooks on the album, a job usually reserved for 50 Cent.

G Unit surprised the audience at the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert in June by reuniting onstage. The group — which also includes Lloyd Bands, Young Buck and new member Kidd Kidd — released the album independently on the Caroline label, where 50 Cent released the album "Animal Ambition" in June after years of being signed to Interscope and Eminem's Shady Records.

"It's clear that the passion for what we do is there because you don't see the same numbers anymore," 50 Cent said of the record sales. "But it's even more important that you mean something. For me, when I fell in love with (music), authenticity was everything."

The five group members were excited and brotherly, full of laughs and sitting tightly during a recent interview. Try to get a question in and you'd fail. They said aging has helped them realize they needed to revive G Unit, whose hits a decade ago include "Stunt 101" and "Wanna Get to Know You."

Yayo, who was in jail when "Beg for Mercy" was released in 2003, said he grew frustrated with the music industry while the group was split.

"So when Banks stop talking to 50, I'm not talking to Buck, nobody's talking to nobody. Now I'm lost. I'm like, 'What am I going to do?'" he said. "And bad enough, your friends you think are your real friends — the 40-man entourage you paid for dinner for, you took to this and that — where did they go? They're gone. They're out the picture."

He said that helped him realize who is most important: "You get all kinds of industry frustration, but I'll never let it happen again because I realized the only person that ever helped me in my life is 50 Cent, is Lloyd Banks, is Young Buck."

Changes is great. addresses the former president of Interscope Jimmy Iovine wanting him to flop because he started a headphone company that he saw as potential competition for Beats By Dre.

New G-Unit Album Late November/December

I love the idea that there's a 'clean' version of Dead P*sssy Nikka

Like why even bother at that point.

I kind of saw they got back together but i dont follow rap like i used to. So they're not with shady aftermath/interscope any more?

Who's the new kid on the right?

Kidd Kidd,

been loyal to 50 Cent for a minute so he deserves to be in the group.
The guy actually had a history with Lil Wayne but never actually popped off until now being with 50 Cent.

Great to see Young Buck back with 50. The guy had some very dark times. Nothing better to see issues being resolved.

The Kidd Kidd?

Kidd Kidd.
interesting. Thanks

If you're a fan of that Aftermath/Shady Records run, you can't really go wrong with any of the G-Unit debuts aside from the Tony Yayo album.
Its so weird to think that g-unit did the whole "rap group" thing about as right as it could be done. It was the perfect storm when g-unit hit their stride and became popular. Each member had awesome debut platinum solo albums and they all collabed for beg for mercy while each having a solo track which was great as well and then yoyo comes home and drops his album and pretty much set off the demise of g-unit.

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Reunits g-unit? Dafuq is Game at? Hate it or love it, he's a member.

Story as it that Dr dre's prodigee at the time " the game" now known as "game" wanted the game on gunit since it was the hottest thing group at the time.. It wasn't long before the whole hot 97 incident and the game started dissing the unit. Personally I never considered him part of the unit he was more of a rental.. Especially his refusal to beef with several of 50's enemies.

Everyone was dropping bombs back then. I still remember listening to Banks Hunger For More. Good lord that had some jams.

Just listened to "Don't Push Me" for the first time in forever. Ohmyyyy.

I was just listening to Beg For Mercy. Wow.

I thought there was beef between 50 Cent and Young Buck?

No Game though. :lol

Game was most definitely a G-Unit member. He was in while Yayo was in jail.

He was the bastard child, Jimmy asked 50 if he could help him out because Dr Dre was about to drop him, then he fliped 'em on them as soon as he got on. lol

They reunited at Hot 97's Summer Jam this year and put there issues aside. 50 still doesn't like Game.

Game definitely not an original member but him in would at least produce better songs than any garbage tony yayo would be in.

Same with other non-members like mobb deep or whoever else.

All the mixtapes before GRODT were amazing, after that I stopped caring. (stopped listening to new hip hop when Wayne became 'the best mc', that was just laughable to me, he was nothing more than the Flava Flav of the hot boyz/cash money when I was 20)

My favorite pre GRODT tracks were obviously

G-Unit Anthem
fat chick
Bad News
after my Cheddar

Yayo album was not good tbh but young buck tho.

Outside of Yayo you really coundn't go wrong with Shady/Aftermath tbh. All had quality albums.

Game > G-Unit

But really, I haven't listened to them since he left. 300 Bars and Runnin' was awesome.
Game better than G-Unit?? , coming from a guy who got his screen name from a lyrical gem of an album?

Come on man, all game did was name drop, when his first album dropped, there was a tally/count out, dude said Dre like 500 times, he is far from lyrical.

Lol at people calling game betrer than anyone.

Dude jacks rapper's styles on songs he's on with them, can't carry his own album, and has to name drop 15 people on each song. Dude is trash.
