G20 Hamburg Summit - Hype Thread!

Masked people tearing up the street for more bricks. Hope they don't actually start throwing them...

I think it's a SERIOUS symptom of the civil unrest that many people feel. The G20 represents a corrupt system that oppressed all but the 1%.

I don't approve of rioting (especially the way they're choosing to do it) nor would I ever engage in acting like it (I've been participating in civil disobedience when I feel like I need to since the mid-90s), but I understand the rage people feel.
Nah, this is not civil unrest. This is literally people going there to riot. There is nothing understandable about it.

They have for 3 hours now.

At some point they have to stop watching and start acting

Chopper is still buzzing above us but otherwise no police to be heard

The point is that it's a giant trap, the buildings where the fire burns are full of violent activists with weaponry like stones, iron bars and metal ball slingshots, just waiting for the police to step forward. Police is probably waiting until the other paths up to there are also set up, the place is the homebase of the autonomous left in Hamburg, there are pathways and areas to hide in everywhere.

totally warrantedif they suspect militans among them, tonight makes it pretty clear that these are riots and that's not because of any police action.

WTF?

You would be fine if the police just randomly scanned your phone just because you were driving with the bus?

Haspa(a Bank) is burning next to the rote flora.

Police needs to move now in if they start fires in buildings

put the outcome of these in spoiler tags.

Do you honestly think they'd care about your porn or tinder messages?

Yes, on a day like this it's absolutely warranted.

The Schanzenviertel is quite expensive to live in, isn't it?

Not sure sure how it's called in english, it's a trendy popular quarter/district because many younger people live there, many shops, restaurants etc you can walk around at night and always see a ton of people, very safe or at least it feels safe.

I don't actually know the rent there but I think it depends, lot's of old buildings and when you pass through it in a car you wouldn't think that it's actually quite the safe area because it's plastered with grafitty and posters quite a bit. It's not a rich only, snobby area, quite the contrary. I guess you could say it's a hippster magnet (I know people who would feel insulted by that though lol)

Given the situation and if they really just were looking for the IMEI to find militants i would be fine with it. i support everything that helps keeping the black block down.

I still believe in our law and as long as they don't have any reason for scanning MY phone they should keep their hands off.

Like I said, just because some idiots are behaving like shit this doesn't approve several lawbreaking against other people which didn't commit a single crime.

I doubt that those commiting most of the violence are feeling any rage towards the corrupt system, the 1% or anything else for that matter. They are holligans traveling from one place to fuck things up to the next. Whatever enables to "express" their rage is good enough.

The whole idea of those bloc activists is to hide in regular groups of demonstrants and bystanders to rally at a moment's notice. If you don't see the reason if you're in Hamburg right now (or watch TV) then I don't know what to tell you.

Don't think i've seen it on stream.

Heard it from journalists on TV
Bild talks about a Haspa branch being "destroyed" and ATM plundered. Might be that. If there are actual buildings on fire, they should move in now.

There can be situations were these measures can be taken. This is a bit more then just a few idiots. There are 200 police officers hurt, stores looted, fires started, and people from other cities and countries traveling to Hamburg to join in.

Protesters come to Hamburg, wreck Hamburg, leave.

Meanwhile, absolutely nothing has been accomplished against Trump or Putin or any another other country outside of Germany.

What is the point?

How exactly do you expect demonstrators to achieve something against Trump or Putin?

With all these small streets this will turn ugly very quick when police move in. Blackbloc had lots of time to prepare now and police can't just crush them with sheer number as good as they did earlier today
German News Reporter told that the police loaded their watertanks with CS gas.

They had this for the last few days now. Normal water with some pepperspray in it.

Then they should go after those people that are making the trouble and not the other ones.

It's the same as with bigger control over the web after each terrorist attack, because scanning every little byte, like the NSA does, will prevent attacks...

We shouldn't give up our rights just because of some idiots.

But how do you stop the people coming in to make trouble, when you aren't allowed to search them and identify them?

This is not about scanning all your data, it's not the same thing.

I see, so German TV (NDR) is "over dramatizing" it. I should stick to the reuters stream haha.

Why do they need IMEI numbers for identifying people? Checking the ID card should be more than enough.

Checking the IMEI numbers is a first step. Next time they will check your contacts. Then in .a next iteration they will check your whatsapp messages and then install the famous "Bundestrojaner". Just to be sure for the future.

Police has been checking phones without any real reasons

https://twitter.com/PolizeiHamburg/...onpsx.de/showthread.php?p=1743275#post1743275

Fuck this...I hope the people will take all these kind of situations to trial.

Maybe it's also time to overthink the G20. We don't have anything to gain for this. Instead the preparations are wasting a huge amount of money and the current protests will burn an even bigger budget.
Fwiw. DO NOT BRING A PHONE TO ANY PROTEST. Police very frequently (and very illegally) likes to use IMSI catchers and other similar devices and cellular technology is very insecure they can and will typically track every phone present in a rally. Encryption used in phone systems is trivial to defeat or just circumvent entirely and they can actually identify every phone present in the interception vicinity.

Looks like police have surrounded the whole district and are now slowly moving inwards

Police spokesperson on TV:

Protestors prepared molotovs
Protestors on the roof with stones ready to attack police
Got special forces (with Assault rifles and MPs) in place to react

You are talking about hypothetical situations here. As far as we know, they did not check contacts or messages.

Some of those idiots are really trying to get hit hard by water cannons there. They have surrounded the area and are now moving in.

Also, no one still present in this area can claim they have no idea whats going on. Police is constantly using speakers telling everyone to move out of the way and stop throwing shit.

Tey probably want them so they can match it to other data they have.

Is there any good stream on the net to keep up with this?

It's fair to say that people who smash up shops and burn cars are against the current social and political systems in place.

It may go against your romantic ideas bringing down the system with anti-Trump memes and biting internet discussion forum comments, but rejecting social norms by smashing shit up is anti-establishment.

Also one here that is standing on the side of protesters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BAa5gHfhjk

They might be against the current systems, but they 1) don't care about offering an alternative or solution and 2) are now there to fuck things up. To frame this as some kind of protest from people that want change is stupid.

Of course. They probably are making profiles from people inside Hamburg so that they know where the people are.

FYI: The IMEI is person specific and therefore especially guarded by german law. You have to have a very good reason to get it (if you value the law, unlike the police in Hamburg)
