Gaf addiction

I managed to stay off GAF for a month...because I was on vacation in a different country with no Internet access but it still counts!

I don't know if I'm addicted but not a day goes by that I don't browse this forum. At work I have a tab open that I check whenever I can, go to the bathroom and check mobile gaf, get home and I have a tab on the computer, I'm out and about waiting at a red light or in line somewhere and I'm on mobile gaf. I want to say I really enjoy this forum. Takes 95% of my internet time. I also think the rest of the internet has been ruined for me because of gaf. For example, I don't enjoy going to websites like IGN, which I used to browse before all the time, same with other sites. When the site goes down, I feel like the internet went down because of that.

Always got GAF open during work, helps make the day fly by when reading. Then I usually browse on the mobile before going yo sleep... It's the best place for news and discussion anywhere in my opinion.

in the UK at the moment, there are a couple of charity campaigns going on

'stoptober' which encourages you to give up smoking, and
'octsober' which challenges you to give up alcohol for October, and get sponsored to raise money for a cancer charity.

I think a 'get off the internet day' would be a good idea. Get everybody to actually look up while walking along the streets, talk to each other with words.

Ironically, that's how I pronounce 'October' when I'm drunk.

What else am I supposed to do?

Go outside?

If games have taught me anything, i gotta time my jumps when i go outside.

I'm not ever going back to my pre-GAF gaming news days. How I lived in the darkness of Kotaku and a place you Go to for Nintendo "news"...

There is just something about GAF that is different from other sites.
I know, but I can't put my finger on it ._.

It's been a month!
The first week was funny. I opened Gaf accidentally a lot. Since I used to browse Gaf everywhere, sometimes when I open my browser it would just resume and load Gaf with me scrambling to close the Gaf tab.
Then there's also this habit where I opened up the browser and immediately type in www.neogaf.com *enter* and go wait a minute... And I would go scrambling to close the tab again.

I "cheated" a bit during this month in two occasions.

First was when I read that typing of the dead is released on steam. There was no reviews out yet. So I came back to read the launch thread and through Gaf I bought it for cheaper with a coupon deal. Hooray.

Second was when my pc graphic card got fried. I went to the build your own pc thread to read up on the current acceptable specs.

It's quite a nice experience actually. I finished lots of books. Exercised a lot. Experienced increase in productivity during work hours.

But the main thing was to prove to myself that I can do it. An exercise of willpower if you must say so. After this whole experience I actually decide to browse Gaf less maybe just once a day and never during working hours.

Shit I should probably do this, I don't post a lot but I lurk pretty hard core. I got fired from my previous job because of too much GAF.

Wouldn't hurt to go cold turkey for a month, so many good games being released in the next month and so many opinions and news to read, I don't think I can do it.

If Gaf really got you fired you should totally consider going cold turkey for awhile. Recalibrating your priorities.

Wouldn't call it an addiction, really. GAF is just a nice quiet corner of the internet that is only known by me in my social circle. I spend my Internet "me time" here.

Awesome. This is what follows me everywhere I go, you probably won't know what it is but it's a Prime pendant.
Yoshi is my everything! Follows me wherever I go!

I carry the One Ring on a chain around my neck. Everyone keeps taking it as a sign that I'm engaged. I'll get around to throwing it into the volcano, eventually....

I just got my first serious job over a year ago and one of the first things I did was ask Nirolak for a really long temp ban so I could focus on my job. I found that, without posting privileges, I stopped reading as much as I used to. Even now, after coming back from said ban, I don't post nearly as much as I used to either.

Just a protip if anyone needed it.

I think a ban doesn't really help that much since it doesn't prevent you from lurking. And there is also a negative side when you really need to post to ask about something and you can't.

If you stay logged in, it prevents lurking. Ask that the ban reason-message be "Go outside" or something.
