Gaf, Goodfellas or Godfather?

I'm with Pauli. Goodfellas, for me.

I've not seen Godfather for a long, long time, so I'll need to rewatch and revise my opinion, but Goodfellas is one of my favourite films (if not favourite). The pacing, acting, music, script; all of them, practically perfect (in my eyes). The "Layla" piano bit with the timing of the freeze car doors opening, the zoom in to De Niro's face with "Sunshine of Your Love", amazing stuff. Love those.

I do remember watching a Satuday afternoon network screening of Goodfellas when I was visiting NYC once. I think it lasted about 40 minutes with all the cuts.

Have u guys seen that godfather version were they take 1 and 2 and chronologically edit it into one movie? I had no idea that existed is it any good?

Y not boat?

The Godfather I & II are absolute masterpieces of cinema.

Goodfellas is a fantastic film but it's not quite up there.

It's enjoyable seeing all of the young Vito parts in sequence but not having them hurts the present day parts of Part 2.

I saw Casino for the first time within the last year. It was pretty good, but nowhere near as good as Goodfellas, or the first two Godfather movies.

Both have highly quotable dialogue, brilliant direction, cinematography and acting. (With the exception of Diane Keaton in the first Godfather, especially early in the film. She acts like she's on stage in a play, not a film. IMO it weakens the scenes she's in.)

I've watched both films multiple times but I always enjoy Goodfellas more. It's straight up entertainment, and fun to watch, while The Godfather is more densely layered and arty so not as immediately accessible. So Goodfellas edges it for me, though it really just depends what mood I'm in.

Godfather and there's no contest. Because Goodfellas ended a little flat while Godfather One was amazing.

No way! The fourth wall break at the end of Goodfellas was amazing, and totally unexpected, at least at the time. I agree that The Godfather probably had a more satisfying ending but can't agree that Goodfellas ended flat.

Godfather for the story, score and cinematography.
Goodfellas for the pace and straight entertainment.

I really like both.

Both great films but I like to judge them based on their eras; The Godfather for classic mafia in power and Goodfellas/Casino for their ultimate downfall. Finish off with Sopranos for modern mafia and Lilyhammer for the lols.
