I think The Godfather is the better film, with a more interesting and more impressively acted character arc at it's center.. But Goodfellas is beautiful in it's own way, and ridiculously easy to watch over and over.

Top-tier, the both of them. (along with Godfather 2 as well)

Watch this video where the movie is reviewed on historical accuracy. The reviewer more or less says that The Godfather is a bit of a romanticized view of the Mafia, whereas Goodfellas leans more to reality (as Goodfellas was based on true events whereas The Godfather was based off a novel).

I'd say both Godfather 1 & 2 are objectively superior films, pretty much across the board, but Goodfellas is more rewatchable.

If they were cars,

Godfather = Rolls Royce, immaculately crafted and makes you feel sophisticated when enjoying it. Lots to study and appreciate. Can be a bit dull if you are looking for constant thrills.

Goodfellas = BMW, still well put together but not in the same league as godfather in regards to the details and quality. But it's a lot more fun to experience.

Scarface = Pontiac Fiero, only fun when you are drunk in the woods driving in circles naked with a gun out the window.

The Godfather is the only film I'd rate a perfect 10/10. Not a scene too much, not a second too long. Absolutely perfect and in my opinion without doubt the pinnacle of modern cinema.

Goodfellas would be second (or maybe third after Godfather Part II) on my all-time list - by a considerable margin - but I wouldn't say it's perfect. The story kinda goes down post-

The Godfather is another level of film. Goodfellas is very good though.

I know this is a forum for young guys who play video games, but all these "godfather is boring" comments are kind of frightening.

Goodfellas is a good film, but I have no desire to ever rewatch it, I feel the same about Casino too.

Godfather though, is one of my favourite movies, as well as the sequel, and will watch them whenever they're on TV. So, for me, it isn't close.
