I haven't bought a new camera since someone stole mine, so I haven't done in photography in a while but here is a sample of some stuff I had done.

I used a Pentax K10D with an old film lens. I don't remember the model of it x_x

There are some excellent shots in these photography threads, this is my first time looking at them.

Is there a thread on GAF like the PC threads with guides to buying cameras and lenses? I am looking to get in to photography and get myself a camera but still trying to learn more about them first. Looking to sell my PS4 and get a camera. I would stretch to £400, does anyone have any ideas? If this is the wrong thread to write this then please delete. Thanks :)

I love how this one is just sprinkled in amongst the others. Just my two cents, this is a great shot, and I don't say that lightly, I think the word great is thrown around too much, especially with photography. Its great because you have a good composition, and you were in the right place at the right time to catch the lightning.

Anyway, I bought the new version of Lightroom, and omg I put together several panos and an HDR shot last night and didn't have to export a single photo to PhotoShop. I didn't have to edit them before hand because you can do anything you want to the photo just like any other RAW photo, because its still a RAW. There's definitely some bugs though, like cropping any photo and coming back and recouping I get a huge blue square instead of the photo and have to click off of it and click back to see it again.

Went on a road trip to Caddo Lake last weekend. Finally got a Barred Owl.

Barred Owl by WRY Photo, on Flickr

Handheld, on a boat, at ISO 1600, this one was 1/320 of a second, I got some that were sharp at 1/160.

I attempted to shoot a time-lapse while I was over in vancouver, my first attempt at doing that.
Was a bit difficult to find the time to do it and the result wasn't anything too fancy but if anyone's interested you can see it here : https://vimeo.com/126816201

btw anyone else getting better response to their work on 500px then Flickr?
Yeah the whole social aspect and getting responses to your work is a lot better on 500px. Still like quite a few things better about flickr tho.

People do a lot more fishing for likes on 500px from what I have noticed.
Its hit or miss on both sites. I think 500px has a better system to get exposure, by that I mean with Flickr, its nearly impossible to get exposure without putting your photo in a bunch of groups. However, I do think there are tons of people fishing for likes/follows on 500px and getting onto *popular* on 500px is a lot easier and less meaningful than getting onto Explore on Flickr. For instance I've had a number of photos get to popular on 500px but only 2 get onto explore on Flickr. All of the combined views/likes/favorites of the photos that made it to popular on 500px don't equal the amount of views/favorites/likes of just one of the photos of mine that made it onto explore. One of the photos that made it onto Explore didn't even make it past fresh on 500px IIRC.

They're both good systems and I use them both, its just interesting to me how different they are socially and by what makes it to the top levels.

Been going through old photos, and had almost completely forgotten about this one.

Yeah, similar results for me on 500px Popular and Flickr Explore.

Generally i still find Flickr much more rewarding than 500px, which I generally find super annoying and super duper annoying with the fishing for likes. Gets into weird situations where people will like something up to a point where it might cross the upcoming/popular thresholds and then stop liking things. The number of photos I've had just stop at 69.7 is hilarious. Also with the way things just get dumped onto 500px by people, the total exposure time for a photo can be hilariously short. I always have the best results putting things up at like 2 in the morning as such. And gaining followers on 500px is super duper slow. Also, it skews so heavily toward eye candy photos that I really don't like the way I find myself editing for it.

Also, photos on Flickr have a much longer shelf life. Photos I posted years ago are still getting views, whereas outside of that first day or so, photos on 500px just fucking die. Also, I get a ton of views on Flickr from people posting my photos to tumblr.

Most annoying thing I am finding on Flickr these days are spam followers. The type of people who follow tens of thousands of photographers fishing for followbacks to pump up their own follow numbers. So gross.

Some of you guys are so talented. Just hanging out in the thread has made me think about my composition when I get back into photography. I love the unique styles everyone has.

Thanks. I think composition is my weakest trait right now.

The lightning isnt that hard to capture if you are doing 30 second exposures. I had a really awesome one but its blurry because some imbecile walked into my tripod during the shot.

Also, if you use a canon camera, capturing lighting is simple with magic lantern as you can set the shutter to go off whenever a predetermined change in scene exposure occurs.

Switching from my dslr to a 5 year old point and shoot hasnt been the most exciting experience, but i got some decent shots out of it:

Just took the plunge and bought an a6000. I've been shooting with a T1i since 2009, I've been itching for an upgrade the past few months. I know it's still a crop sensor, but I'm more than excited. Should be here by May 18th at the latest.

Don't know why, but I got a sudden urge to look at some great photographs, so did a search for photography on GAF. Left satisfied.

Looking at some of my photos when I was doing all this kind of thing and I miss it in many ways.

Good job, guys.

I miss your photography. Where have you been? Why aren't you posting??

I've always been lurking but just don't have the time to take photos like I used to, meaning just for the sake of photography fun and a hobby. Kids and family. I still use my stuff but mostly for kid photos these days.

Shot 2 very different events last night. First was a punkrock band in a small little venue. First time shooting a concert and had a blast. Still learning the ropes, especially when it comes to working the flash for this. Still, had some cool shots. :)

The second one was at a house party a friend of mine hosted and played at. This was also a first time doing this thing, and I have to say it was pretty cool. Had some trouble adjusting to the different kind of lighting and switching from flash and non flash, but it was a cool experience. Plus I suddenly know what party photographers mean when it's easier to pick up women as a photographer at a party. Damn, they're all over you.

Is it just me or does flickr no longer remember your last used BBCode image size? Keeps defaulting back to "ridiculously large" for me.
