GAF re-plays Final Fantasy VII (2010 edition)

I've just started 9 again...

Oh sod it.

*downloads FF VII for 6th playthrough.

Anybody going to go for Ruby and Emerald?

I think I'll join in on this. I'll be playing the modded PC version (if I can get it to work) so I'll post some pictures to show differences.

Awww I just finished it last night :lol

Beat the emerald and ruby weapon for the first time and had fun experimenting with materia combinations this time around.

Still never bothered to get those soldier dolls though.

That's more like Tifa..Tifa looks slutty but the character isn't, while Aeris is slutty and doesn't look it.
I've been saying this for years. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that someone else finally said it.

Some folks have been saying that since 97!
Like me!

Also, I must say that FFVII is basically the greatest gift to the PSP, and vice versa. I play it all the time, and the fact that it's portable makes grinding much more tolerable. So it's super easy to have level 70 characters when you go to the North Crater for the first time. >_>

Why is an angel trying to kill the party with science?

What the hell did Pluto do to anybody?

Why are they STANDING AROUND WAITING FOR DEATH and not hitting it with fire?

...why does the angel only have one wing?

Haha im not seriouz u guyz. ^_^

After the bad taste that XIII left in my mouth, I've decided to join you guys. I haven't played the game in years, so this should be fun.

Played it 3 or 4 times but never managed to get the golden cocobo and beat the emerald and ruby weapon.
Takes such a looooooooooooong time to do the breeding stuff.
Im lazy :lol

Finally got epsxe configured just right, so I'll be joining in. Might do something crazy like an original weapon/armor run (won't change a character's weapon or armor, but Materia and accessories are fair game).

I've been working on a perfect game file for this, but I took a break once the Kalm flashback finished. There's so much involved in trying for max natural HP/MP, all the backtracking to do those Condor battles, etc.

Was planning on playing FFIX, But I haven't played VII since it was released, So I will follow along also. Downloading to my PSP now :)

Hm. The game hasn't exactly aged very well, and it was never anything special beyond it's graphics/cutscenes in the first place. Any mods that improve the PC versions graphics?

Most mods for the PC version are pretty good. They fix many bugs, you get a new OpenGL renderer for much better compatibility with new PCs, vsync and such. Instead of the chibi models you get the battle models (or "better", if you like the emo Cloud), they remade the 2D spells (higher resolution), you can install new weapon models and so on.

I can only recommend those mods, if you played the game a hundred times before and want to try out something "new".

Here's the list of the remix patcher, which includes all popular and important mods.
FF7 v1.02 official patch
Aali's OpenGL Driver v0.7.3b
Higher quality FMV's
Gjoerulv's Hardcore Mod v1.0 (+9999 limit breaker patch)
YAMP (Cutscene skip, Transparent dialogue boxes, and Mdef fix)
Apz' High quality Cloud battle mod
Timu Sumisu & Millenia's high quality Barret Battle mod
Grimmy's high quality Diamond Weapon Battle & Field mods
Team Avalanche 2D Overhaul (beta 9 hr +colon fix +fire2\faiga workaround +jutmpl01.tex fix +new opening screen)
Higher quality cloud bike minigame model
Phoenix Rejuvenation Project field models (+flickering materia fix +transparent faces fix)
New weapon models by Slayersnext+ApzFreak+TimuSumisu+Millenia
Ficedula's FF7Music (w/ "lessdebug")
Final FanTim's FF7 Remastered Soundtrack (looped by yours truly)
FF7 Remixed Music by the folks at OCReMix

Also incorporated are a few mods of my own:
File Icon Redux
New Spells/Weapons/Armor
Remastered AI Script
Battle glitch fixes
Re-translations

And browse the "Game Tweaking" forum on qhimm for other mods.

That stuff is pretty interesting. Is there a mod for the PC version that changes the spell names to what they should be? i.e. fire/fira/firaga instead of fire/fire 2/fire 3

Since the master has entered the thread, I'll ask it here (well it can go here or in the CFW thread, doesn't really matter).

Should I expect to run into any errors creating my own EBoot using my black label discs running the latest CFW? Or is the game perfectly playable (unlike FFVIII :( )?

The first and only time I ever beat FFVII was on my PSP with a custom-converted multi-disc eboot. For what it's worth, FFVIII is playable as well, there are just more hoops to jump through with it, since it's a trickier game to convert.

I guess I could start replaying the PSN version since I'm bored out of my fucking mind this week. Actually, that sounds like a great idea.

I haven't had a lot of time to play, so I've just been doing it when I get the itch to do so. If I knew I was going to sit down and blow through it, then yeah. But I know I won't. :)

I remember one of my first playthroughs coincidentally learning Beta from the Midgar snake as soon as I got there. I've not had the resolve to level up on subsequent plays to survive the damn attack, but that particular playthrough got a royal buttfucking for about a dozen hours after that portion.

I actually started replaying it before this thread was made, but I'm taking my time. I'm at Aerith's house now.

I don't think I ever beat Ruby/Emerald Weapon, got the Golden Chocobo, and found all of the summons and other extra stuff. I'm not going for a 100% file, but I think I'll go after stuff like that this time around.

Final Fantasy VII - 1:30 Recap

Onnanoko (Cloud) - Level 10
Baracus (Barret) - Level 9
Megan Fox (Tifa) - Level 6

After a dangerous confrontation with a trap set by President Shinra, our heroes have destroyed Mako Reactor 5. But Onnanoko is separated from his team mates and after a weepy promise to Megan Fox, the spiky leader of our group breaks a church with his falling awesomeness... and has his second confrontation with an as yet unnamed flower girl...

(OMG, this game is UGLY. :lol It's graphics have not held up well at all, but the game play is still pretty damned fun. The random mobs haven't been annoying as of yet and I think the materia system is going to be interesting to game as the game goes on. One thing I'm hating so far is the Limit system. You HAVE to use them once the meter is at full. It would have been nice to be able to store them so you can dish the attacks on the bosses like candy. ^_^

I'm falling under the same story rut that the previous two plays had, though I am enjoying Baracus a lot more this time around. I'm gonna stick with it as much as I can. I do need to finish this game... don't let me not finish this game. :lol

I'll update every five hours of game play from this point on. I just wanted to give first impressions this time. ^_^)

Haven't played since the last GAF thread. Was that 2008? Or 2007? It was fun though. It was the first time I saw that the turks were potheads.

I've been dying to ask GAF about this...

Does anyone know the backstory about the "Purple Haze" squad in Front Misson (3?)

They were led by a Jamaican guy, and before one of the big battles, they will be right back after a "short break". Me and my buddy were always convinced that one of the localizers was a pothead and snuck this stuff in. Anyone else ever notice this?

Sorry I haven't had time to play much lately, but I'm back at it now. Here's a small update of the little bit of playing I did since the last update.

Segata is such a whiner.

Whenever I do this part of the game, I take the stairs, and then go back down the elevator to get the Turtle Paradise poster. I don't really know why. There's no real reason to take the stairs, since there's only an elixir on them, but it's more peaceful.

And this is where I stopped for a while. I don't know what it is, but I am completely unable to get past this part without getting seen. I always get caught so many times that the guards disappear and the game lets me continue. :(

I will continue my perfect game soon, when i finally arrive at my new home, so i will post impressions here :)

I think i left the game after escaping form Saucer.

I love your posts, Aeana. I almost feel compelled to play FFVII myself, again, whenever I happen on your commentary. I fear the game, having played it one too many times, has become more enjoyable through the eyes of others, though, so: thank you for doing this.
