GAF Steamgifts Group Invite Thread

I won Day of Defeat Source, Nuclear Dawn, and Tales of Monkey Island out of 1267. Gave that last one to someone else because I have too many adventure games I haven't even started, some that were gifted to me. I'm already up to 1294 entries.

Someday I'll win something crazy good and stop... really, I'll stop...
 
They should add an enter button right on the main listing page. However, I'd probably go through all the pages and click each one, so maybe it's a good thing.
 
830 entries and I've won The Ball, BIT TRIP BEAT and Half-Life. I gave away Braid, Blocks That Matter (both purchased dailies put in my inventory until I received them later again from various bundles), The Orange Box (Holiday 2011 Reward) and Valve Complete Pack (Giveaway is still open for two days. Open for everybody) which I got from the Steam Sales Treasure Hunt thread. Thanks to DOA for putting that one on the giftpile and Toma for hosting the competition. I'm giving it away again because I own all the games already.

I'm not complaining

I like to middlemouse click giveaways to open them in new tabs and go through a few pages. When I get to the point that they giveaways will be open for another day, then I'll go through my tabs entering the giveaways from the start until I either run out of points or have entered all the giveaways.
 
o lawd. I'm only 264 entries in and i finally won a gift, Cthulhu Saves the World. What's funny is that i couldn't even win a private giveaway with 6 entries but this certain giveaway had 668 entries. I guess all the gifting i have done lately has blessed me with good luck. :p
 
I signed up for this site a few weeks ago and even gave away a couple games. But from what I can tell, I can expect to win 1 time for every 500 or so entries I put in. I don't even think I am going to bother.
 
This stinks.. I'm suspended for a week for supposedly not redeeming a game, even though I did.

Does sort of thing happen often? Any ideas why?

I redeemed it and it's sitting in my inventory and I know I clicked the button.

I never have any luck with SG it seems :D

Wait...wut? You can be suspended for something like that?! Wow.. maybe when you redeem it it has to be in your library, not your inventory. What game was it anyways?

you can't put games you won in your inventory, you have to put them in your library

it's to prevent regifting which they will ban you for

Hrm.. I didn't know that.

Anyways, the game was Frozen Synapse, and yes, its in my inventory.

Ok, you can view the FAQ when you're not logged in. Installed the game and appealed the suspension.
 
Here is the only stuff that may not come from common sense...

  • Do not call out submitters in giveaways. Please click the report button or submit a ticket, do not comment on the giveaway claiming the giveaway to be fake.
  • Extraneous/special rules for giveaways require moderator approval. Public giveaways cannot have any special rules.
  • Do not submit individual games from indie game bundles, e.g. Humble Bundle, Indie Royale, etc.
This is in accordance with the policies of those sites, but they should have it written on their giveaway creation page. Mostly because their community has a bunch of asshats that will report others before checking to see if they were aware of such rules.

  • Do not submit what we consider exploited CD-keys. These are listed as: Dead Island, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Bulletstorm, Homefront, Shogun DLC, AI War, Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance, Portal 2, DiRT 3, Puppy Games Keys, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 (Region Locked), Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Multiplayer, Eets (in certain amounts), World of Goo, Puzzle Agent, Risen 2: Dark Waters - Air Temple DLC
I understand the reasoning behind this, yet you still see these go to completion pretty often. It's also dumb to block a much-coveted game like MW3 altogether due to what was a minor problem.

  • Do not submit guest passes, beta keys (Dota 2 and CS:GO giftable copies whitelisted), or in-game items from games such as TF2.
Yet guest passes are constantly being posted and finishing.

  • You must redeem the game on the account you entered with, and may not trade it to others.
This may seem dumb at first, but it's basically the only protection against people trying to use Steamgifts as a way of making money. I know they also want to guard contributor ratings, but there should be some approved way to pass on what you win in a private giveaway if you so desire.

I understand the reasoning behind it once someone explained it that way. Playblink doesn't seem to have that problem as a lot of people turn around and resubmit the game they won for more XP.

Since Steamgifts started implementing the contributor only giveaways (which seemed to borrow from Playblink's style of giveaways) I never really gave the inventory thing much thought.
