Game Grumps (aka Egoraptor plays some games)

I think Arin and Danny's true lack of video game knowledge is what makes it entertaining. If they were really good at the game, it'd be boring.

I disagree. I don't watch them act like idiots for 10mins. Why make a channel about playing video games if the games aren't important? That's why I liked the early stuff with Dan. They actually talked about and discussed games. Now It seems like Danny's trying to be Jon 2.0 just without the yelling into the mic.

Ugggh, this windwaker playthrough will take even longer than sonic. I was afraid about falling behind since I haven't had time to play and I could probably not play the rest of the week and still be ahead after only play an hour or two.

Seems like between last episode and this one they consulted a guide because they knew they had to take out the searchlights but didn't know why until they got to the part where they had to sidle across the gap.

At the end of last episode they picked up the dungeon map. They should really use the gamepad so they can have the map open at all times... they need it. They're lost and they haven't checked the map once to get their bearings.

lol, knew this would happen after watching the first episode of Wind Waker. It's going to be a painful LP to watch. They're going to struggle through the whole game and it just won't be entertaining to watch after a while.

In the latest episode Arin finally completes the Forsaken Fortress after an unknown amount of time was edited out.

Gets the Tingle Bottle and instantly dismisses it as bullshit. If only he had the Tingle Bottle on Outset Island; he could have asked Miiverse where the shield he was shown in a cutscene 10 minutes earlier was.

The latest SMB3 episode made me face palm sooooo much. Not that I didn't find it entertaining. But daaaaamn. Every single time he hit that P switch, he went LEFT. Not once. NOT ONCE did he think to check RIGHT and see if maybe, just MAYBE there might be a door on that strangely lonely block at the end of the hall. You know, at the FAR RIGHT of the level where side-scrolling games USUALLY have an exit.

Hopefully they find it next episode. It'll probably be the finale when they do. There's not much left to the game. They JUST NEED TO FIND THAT EXIT! Fortunately Bowser's Castle is pretty straight forward. This dungeon is just a maze. But they made it all the way to the area where the exit is. And could not find the exit. He kept trying to go back to the left where he'd been. The one part of the level that isn't a maze and he wouldn't even look.

*sigh*

Zelda was a cakewalk compared to that. Editing or no. I'm surprised neither of them remembered or thought to mention it.

They can't be this mentally challenged, they just can't. Two whole fucking episodes and they never once more right to where the door is? They're literally less than 2 seconds away from the boss.

Rain talks about how he loves when a game teaches you using natural gameplay. But when a single block is on a wall at the very right edge of a map in a fortress where doors are activated by switches, one of which is right near that block, he can't figure it out.

So... I haven't seen today's episode. Did they make it out? I fear to look.

I can't be the only one who enjoys seeing them suffer through every game they play.
I do too, but oh my fucking goooooooood at that Mario episode.

Going to white knight a little bit here, save for WW :) I expected WW to be a terrible LP for them from the start at any rate. Edit: Geez, this post looks way longer than it really is.

Dan is still like that when he's very familiar with a game. When he's not, though, he does revert to just making funny commentary, and I find him hilarious. When Jon was playing a game or series that he was unfamiliar with, he would always bullshit like he knew what he was saying and it was suuuuper frustrating. I'm happy to see that Danny's fine with just enjoying the game and making jokes if he doesn't have much to say. I'm also totally cool that he doesn't have much to add at times -- I don't watch GG for good commentary, though I do love when they can have good conversation about the game they're playing for sure.

I agree to an extent, and it's why I can't get into many other LP videos. Even Two Best Friends Play can be a little boring to me, save for their edited Machinima videos, and that's the only other LP channel I'm even remotely into.

Man, this level was the hardest in the game for me when I was a kid, so I can't fault them at all. This is the level I always saved the level skip cloud item for. Yeah, doors appear, but the level is littered with coins and blocks that lead you into thinking you've got to use the P-switch for THAT plus the new door appearances... I never thought to run back toward the thwomp to find that door when I was young. And I last played SMB3 about 5 - 7 years ago and remember forgetting how this level worked and died several times in the process. For me, it was never obvious.. you just have to happen to go right into that dead end and see it.

sequelities really show the power of video editing

That, and a lot of thought. In GG's favor, there's none of either in the show, but I also think Arin has horrible opinions half the time.

Rain (sic) talks about how he loves when a game teaches you using natural gameplay. But when a single block is on a wall at the very right edge of a map in a fortress where doors are activated by switches, one of which is right near that block, he can't figure it out.

There's nothing about that random block above the thwomp that looks inviting. It's just a way up to the upper level, to me.

But seriously guys...

Fortune Street looks fucking AWESOME and I now want to own this game soooo hard. Why didn't I support this when it came out?! Everybody made it seem boring as fuck. Should've actually looked into it..

There's already a way to the upper level on the left. That block is placed exactly at the right end of the map specifically to make you think something will happen with it.

Part of me wishes they wouldn't check a walkthrough just so SMB3 could never end. I really want to hear Arin's reaction when he finally accidentally stumbled onto it. A huge face palm so hard the entire internet hears it.

The other part of me wishes they'd redo SMB2 and play through the entire game without warps.

And the rest wants them to also do SMB1 and SMB2J and World and 64.

I find the Fortune Street game to look pretty boring. But the banter between the four of them is great. All the game does for me is make me wish SquEnix would release Dragon Quest VIII on the Wii U in HD. It's all I want. That game had amazing music and awesome locations.

There's a few issues with Fortune Street that you won't see from just watching the GG videos, but none of them are related with the base game. It's a shame that they're playing with stocks off, since they're what really get the game going (and the game is ultimately balanced around being able to make massive comebacks with them). Ross would also have been able to avoid selling a whole property just to pay a measly 9 gold.

I definitely prefer GG when they're doing a bad job playing cause they just don't get it.

Gives me Game Center CX vibes.
The only difference is they don't have a coworker who comes in occasionally to give them a lesson on how to play. Instead they use fast-forwards or look it up between episodes.

Oh gawd! Arin mixed up compsognathus and coelphysus! Nor does he know the word "slalom". Tsk tsk.

Continuing on from not knowing if Tetra was a boy or girl, Arin moves on to being confused about the gender of Prince Komali.

They had to look up the solution to SMB3's final castle.

They had to look up how to get THE FUCKING SHIELD IN WIND WAKER.

Heck, they can't figure out anything in WW. Just wait until they get to the part where they need to strike the door with Phantom Ganon's sword.

Don't ever release the Zelda sequelitis, Ego. Your opinion is invalidated because of this bullshit.

I see this explanation around a lot. That game grumps and the things he says on game grumps kinda of ruins some stuff for sequelitis

He kept crying in the Megaman Sequelitis that games today just tells to much the player what to do while he constantly fails to know what to do EVEN IF THE GAME TELLS HIM. He's too busy talking about shits and giggles to pay attention.

It's infuriating.

Hell, even when he jokes about the thing he is supposed to do! He got the delivery bag and the letter and both he and Dan joked about them so clearly the paying attention excuse is out the window.

Hey guys, where's Medli? I spent five seconds looking, can't find her!

There is no easy way to say this, but I am pretty sure at this point that Ego is a little bit mentally challenged. I mean, he 'explained' the high school drop out thing away, but not being able to retain information to this degree, even if you are talking to someone else, is just... not good. "I guess I didn't read it?" after like.... 10 minutes of joking about it. Thats brain damage levels of inability. I'm sure whatever odd hours theyre keeping to film all this effects things as well, but just... nothing can explain this away.He makes up for such weaknesses with artwork, good sense of comedy and more, but a critical thinker he is not. Sequelitus 3 can never come out now, its just something he's signed away on after hours of evidence.

They should swap players more on these runthroughs because Ego just seems to hit mental walls. Thank god Danny has convinced him they need to start using walkthroughs because this isnt what people want to watch. They should also have the grace to just stop with WW. Its clearly not a Grump Show.

I realise I'm watching solely for Danny these days. When he plays a game, he actually seems to have an attention span a lot of the time and will learn what is asked of him.

Wow some of you are really raking these guys over the coals. Relax. It'll be ok. They're playing videogames and making jokes. This isn't a lets play or walkthrough series. Tone it down a notch.

Which would be fine... if they didn't spend multiple videos failing and then blaming it on "bad game design" and/or making other completely ignorant comments. I'm seeing flashes of DSPGaming, and that's not a good thing.

To be honest, Danny is the best thing to happen to the show imo. He's pretty funny without being overly vulgar and him not playing all these games gives him better responses to the games cause it's his first time.

I knew right away when he missed the shield thing that this was going to be a bad series. They say enough stupid shit to make me laugh, usually, so I keep watching. But sometimes I question whether or not they pay any attention at all when they're playing games.

People have said he's doing it on purpose, but various sites say he's just that unobservant and inept.

Arin says he beat Skyward Sword... I'm wondering if he did.

Here's another video of the "Indestructible Turret" that starts with a clip showing how it's done, then showing how DSP tackles it, all while comments from the video are pasted over it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewVN0g8xvyc
Also, this bit from GTA V where... just watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBnK1r7eZpY

But yeah, I've noticed Arin has way too much trouble paying attention to the game. And really, his Mega Man X video has been rendered null and void now. Considering how often he get stuck on simple parts while boasting that he "doesn't need tutorials". What a load of crap.

Oh come on now, he's solved some relatively challenging puzzles quickly in other games. I'm sure he's competent when playing alone, but clearly he doesn't really care to pay attention while with Dan. I'm sure he has ADHD and possibly other stuff, but being massively inattentive doesn't make you an idiot or mean you have down syndrome or whatever.

Ego's freely admitted before that he suffers from ADHD. Combine that with having to chat with a friend while playing and it's really not that ridiculous to believe he misses shit.

That said, it's still immensely frustrating as a viewer to watch it when it happens.
