Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

I didn't preorder Super Hexagon. I really want it cause Chipzel is so good, but I feel like I'm paying $30 for a 7" because somebody thought it was clever to make it in the shape of a hexagon.

Edit: $36 for a 7". Ayyy, what it up with their crazy shipping? Most vinyl I buy online is $4 or $5 with USPS. Boo. Serious boo.

Got a vinyl newb question. I just got a picture disc and the picture has parts that look faded, like it's turning white. Is that just an effect from being played? Ink scratching off or something?

Dat Fez vinyl.

I wish I knew the answer for you, but maybe someone will let you know if I bump it.

I think Rapid made the same mistake as me, thinking that the LE includes the vinyl which it does not...
Ah yeah, size-wise it kinda looks like it should, but I think the game LE just comes with digital codes for the OST and game itself. It's really more of a big blank book! I almost got fooled myself.

Ordered the FEZ vinyl, and because Jim Guthrie is having a 25% off everything sale (coupon code "blackfriday"), I picked up his latest album.

So much good video game vinyl on my way, and I won't be able to listen to it for half a year because I'm studying abroad :(

Has this been posted? Since Square Enix America can't be bothered bringing this over, To Far Away Times: Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album is available for pre-order on CD Japan.
Check the description, kind of awesome what they're doing:

Love those guys, they really go above-and-beyond over there.
Thanks, just picked this up. Hope these releases calm down a bit, it's been an expensive 2 weeks for me.
No kidding, right? Batman, Fez, Street Fighter, Super Hang-On... Heck, I got a 16-disc Metallica set the other day that was crazy expensive. Maybe one day I'll even buy a record player!

God damn, I'd love this but there's no way in paying £17 shipping just for a double lp.

Yeah, I got to say it fucking sucks being a consumer in Australia sometimes. All the cool shit comes from either NA or EU, and I have to get it all shipped here for the same price as the product itself, usually. And that's if it doesn't melt on the way to my door.

Oh my, I've got some great news to share about the SFII vinyl set. Can't go into exact details yet, but it looks like we'll be able to do a really fast second pressing that will ship around the same time as the first one, maybe a bit later.

Wait wait, can you tell us when it'll go up?! In my veins!

That's awesome. I look forward to ordering it eventually, so maybe this is the time for me :)

Super Hexagon looking SEXY

I just noticed that iam8bit is having a black friday deal. $10 gift card for every $50 spent. It says "$10 gift card enclosed with order". I assume that means it'll come in the package when it ships. I wonder if it works with pre-orders...

Black Screen Records will be selling test pressings of the Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'n' Tasty soundtrack on their site tomorrow. There's 15 copies (out of 20 total) and come in special screen printed covers.

Ordered the FEZ vinyl yesterday. Still have the Star Wars set next month to kill my wallet, too. I agree with someone above--- there's bee way too many goddanm vinyls lately. All were awesome and hard to resist, however. I guess all these companies need to make the quarter/year in time for Black Friday...

Did it come in one of those clear PVC sleeves? If so, it could be outgassing, which is bad. Direct contact between a PVC sleeve and a vinyl record over a prolonged time will initiate a chemical reaction that looks like a faded residue on the record.

When a record with this residue is played it will sound flat and have noticeable surface noise. Once the damage is done there is nothing to do about it.

If you get a record that comes straight in a PVC sleeve it's best to at least keep it inside a polylined inner sleeve as well to avoid direct contact between the record and the sleeve.

But before we assume the worst try playing it and see how it sounds. It could be something else.

Very useful insight, thank you. We're talking with the manufacturer about the best way to ship the SF soundtrack. I was thinking of putting the discs in a polylined inner sleeve each, and put this inner sleeve inside a PVC sleeve. When you get the set, you simply throw the PVC sleeve and put the disc+polyline inside the artwork sleeve. Are we committing a horrible crime here?

There's a ton of mixed opinions on this, but overall I would say no, you're not committing a major crime. I house all my records in thick PVC sleeves (because it's the only ones my cat can't scratch through) and so far the only times I've encountered outgassing is with records that already came directly in PVC sleeves with nothing else.

There's some speculation that environment records are stored in (high heat or high humidity) can have an influence on whether or not outgassing will occur (or how fast it'll happen). There's some speculation that these factors will fasten the outgassing process and potentially harm records stored inside covers with sleeves and all as well. From personal experience I've stored albums in these sleeves for ~5 years so far and have yet to notice any damage.

And if I made anyone paranoid, then there's always polyethylene outer sleeves - these are fine. Any issues - however little the risk is - is with PVC only.

But yeah, tl;dr I wouldn't be too worried if you house the records in a polylined sleeve within a PVC sleeve. That's what I do with picture discs that only comes in a PVC sleeve.

That's for all the info. It was stored directly in a sleeve. It's also from 1989 so I imagine that's what it is. As dumb as it may be I really only bought it because it was cheap and it had a goofy picture on it, I don't care that much about how it sounds. I also don't have access to my turntable right now so I can't check it anyway.

That tip about storing future picture discs in a sleeve will be useful so thanks for that.

More than a little bummed that I bought the CD now. I'm a massive, massive CT/CC fan but I just can't do that right now :(

So, I've got something new for the site up my sleeve: https://blipblopwax.wordpress.com/now-playing/

First post will be up during the weekend. If anyone has any preferences about something specific they'd like me to cover for these releases then I'm all open for suggestions.

(Also 'Now Playing' was the best I could come up with for such a series. Considered 'Now Loading' as well, but decided against. If anyone has a better name I'm all ears) :)
