Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

Mondo is an art company first and foremost; vinyl distributor second/third.
Same as iam8bit.

I recently got the Le Matos reprints from Mondo (technically Death Waltz, but I think they're the same now) and the records are so hard to get in or out of their sleeves. Yeah, it's a minor thing (major annoyance tho) but it really highlights the above statement. Another label would've said "this makes it hard to take the records out to listen to them," but Mondo is like "it looks good in a frame on my wall, send it to production."

I'm still mad about the Katamari release. Cool thing but did they actually go through the trouble of licensing Katamari only to put out a pop culture cross over thing instead of just releasing the straight up Katamari stuff?

also: I'm happy to finally buy a Mondo Castlevania release. 12" fuck yeaaaaaaaaaaaah

Not a lawyer, but IIRC the rules on doing covers and arrangements are much more lenient than doing original soundtracks. Same concept applies to the Hero of Time release. I'm sure they'd love to do the original soundtracks if they could.

It's a shame to see that terrible art for CIII when they nailed it with Simon's Quest. It feels like the wait between those two will be shorter than between 1 and 2

Damn that is a sexy LP!!!! I'm actually playing Dragon Quest 2 on my phone right now, awesome music. Does that contain the original Famicom soundtrack?

Yup, it's arranged in a sound story format, so it's like a compressed version of somebody playing the game (sound effects included, many themes repeated, etc.). It's quite lengthy too, between twenty and thirty minutes, I'd guess. Also the sound is heavily processed (reverb?) and I swear there are some slight arrangement differences.

I've seen many a LP in this thread, but this is the first one that has made me jealous.
#AchievementUnlocked.

Finally got both my Uncharted 4 vinyl and the Death Stranding one.

Really chuffed at the extra touches by the U4 release, and counting my blessings that AusPost has so far (touch wood) delivered every single vinyl of mine from the other side of the world (except Shatter from NZ), pretty well untouched.

Not sure if I want to open my DS one yet considering it's sold out and, who knows, might be worth something at some point. Might have to order the Low Roar album itself.

The CVIII art isn't awful, it just doesn't fit the Castlevania series in my opinion. Same as CVI. I think the CVII cover is great.

Any word if they will include the Famicom version on this too? Since that is the better one with the VRC6 chip.

I'm hoping they have both the NTSC and Famicom versions on this release. I prefer the non-VRC6 version of this soundtrack by quite a bit.

Yeah, they said it would be 2 x 12" LP, one LP having NES, and the other having Famicom. Very exciting, as I absolutely love the Famicom version of the soundtrack.

Maaan, that Castlevania III cover is so bad.

Like, okay, it's supposed to be the four main characters. Really? How? Show me how these are supposed to be the Castelvania III characters. Would anybody have have known that if it didn't say Castlevania III on the tweet? Then explain to me why their faces are being ripped apart. Where in Castlevania III did this happen? And then tell me why they are being peeled off of a brain. Was there a brain anywhere in Castlevania III?

One of the worst album covers ever.

First of all, i really love Data Discs and they are doing great work. However, i was listening to the Revenge Of Shinobi vinyl and one thing that really stood out is how much hiss there is on some of the tracks?

For instance, check out the track "Failure" from Yuzo's own (i think?) YouTube channel (or any other "Failure" versions on YouTube):

Now, check the vinyl if you have it (i'm not gonna post a sample clip of it, because i don't wanna break any forum rules -- if it's allowed, i'd be happy to), but it's extreme in comparison!

It's not produced by my equipment for sure (the silence between the tracks is almost noise free, Data did a great job with this for sure), so it has to be in the recording of the track itself. It could be the process of recording from the analog equipment they use and that the clips on YouTube are from emulators, but still... pretty weird if this is claimed to be "newly remastered".

Please let me know your thoughts.

Did the white Dear Esther ever go up on Mondo? Took a nap and I'm afraid I missed it. : (

Edit: Whoops, Wednesday. I'm a mess.

Like, I know you're being serious, but this almost reads like parody.

Hm. I'll have a listen to mine tonight and let you know. I know that on the back of the cover they say which tracks were recorded from a Mega Drive and which were recorded directly from the PC-88. Maybe that might give us a hint if it's a bad copy.

It could also just be how the interpolation worked on the recording. Might even play it on console and see if it does it, too.

Speaking of soundtracks with different JPN vs USA versions...

Why is the snare SO LOUD on the JPN version of Phantasy Star 2 and so *quiet* on the USA version. If you averaged them it'd be the right level.

I hope if Data Discs dips into Phantasy Star they don't feel obligated to press both versions just for that one difference. I don't hear other changes, are there any?

All tracks have been recorded with a Model 1 Megadrive, no PC88 at all. Let me know if you hear it too!

Has Mondo whispered of any dates or timeframes regarding the Contra III or CVIII vinyl releases? Or have they only teased the artwork?

Nothing about Contra afaik, CVIII coming March 22

That date is what I needed to know. I nabbed the CV1 and 2, and have a few others en route.

This is already looking like a dark, deep hole that only costs me more money as I descend further into it.

But I'm OK with it because it's fucking cool to listen to CV on vinyl.
