In terms of graphics what are some games that lived up to there CG trailers(or bullshots)

One of the the best-
The original next gen Final Fantasy seen ages ago that looked mind blowing, turned out to look even better-

FF7

tbh i dont think ff7 on the ps1 looks as good as that first shot

Killzone2 comes close to it's ridiculous trailer but in a way still looks a ways off for the simple fact that one is hand crafted and one isnt. one has sharp edges, effects, clipping and one doesnt.

Killzone 2.

Yeah, it's not a 1:1 recreation. In some areas, the CG trailer is obviously more advanced when it comes to textures, particle effects, explosions...

But, they faithfully recreated the atmosphere, and in some senses the way the game looks is more aesthetically pleasing. The sense of war and chaos is far better. There's more activity going on screen. The artistic direction is superior.

So, in that regard it certainly lived up to the trailer. No one believed KZ2 was going to look as good as the final product ended up being.

Bitter tears :lol ?

I appreciate KZ2's graphical prowess as much as any other normal poster, but it isn't on the same level. It got a lot closer than people thought it would, though.

No doubt someone will say "close enough" but seriously you either make it, or you don't. You live up to the CG trailer, or you don't. There's no points for getting close.

FFXIII
KILLZONE 2
UNCHARTED

The question asked was if the game lived up to it, not if it surpassed it technically. I think KZ2 lives up to it, personally.

That FF one is probably the best. I've never seen another game that meets the early CG trailers. Some compare favorably but never match them. That's why I hate CG trailers, they are never a good representative what the games are going to be.

I don't quite know why I feel this way but I don't feel that the tech demo counts as a "CG trailer for FF7". It seems like it doesn't in any way actually apply to the OP's question.
Didn't know that. I had never seen it before.

it never had anything to do with n64 -- iirc that angle was invented by gamefan

it wasn't from "N64", but those shots came out when it was still called "project reality" and before SE jumped ship to Sony.

Uncharted and Heavenly Sword are the only two I can think of, almost every other game was downgraded from its unveiling.

Hmmmm....I was deciding whether or not posting the
Halo 3
CG trailer would get me banned....

I decided not to post it....

You mean as the one that lived up to their CG trailer? Far from it.

I would say the current Heavy Rain stuff looks better than The Casting video too.

No, just no. FFVII on PS1 most certainly did not rival that realtime playable SGI demo.

Isn't this shot from the Final Fantasy N64 tech demo?

No, it's a shot of the Final Fantasy SGI Demo, which ran on the Onyx 2 RealityEngine system a super high-end visualization graphics supercomputer costing $100K-$200K and up, something that was more powerful than SGI's standard low-end ($10K-$20K) to mid-range ($50K) workstations, and far beyond the Nintendo 64.

Read this page to get more educated on the demo: http://www.lostlevels.org/200510/

The demo ran on Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI) ONYX workstations

no Gears? I always thought Epic nailed it....I never thought they would live up to the bullshots they released back in 05.

I think people assumed it was an n64 tech demo but it was just a demo of 3d. http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/affw/ffsgi.html http://www.lostlevels.org/200510/

The interactive Final Fantasy technical demo displayed at the ACM SIGGRAPH 95 conference was not a prototype of an upcoming game, nor was it a demo that was being developed specifically for the Nintendo 64 or for the Sony PlayStation. It was simply a technical demo that was designed to show what Square envisioned the next generation of RPGs to be, and to familiarize Square's software developers with the basics of 3D engines.

I believe that Killzone 2 compares strongly to the CG trailer. IMHO

Gears of War did an amazing job as welll.

Did Uncharted have a CG trailer?

Can't find a picture but I think that the unveiling / teaser of The Wind Waker (dunno if it was CG or not) versus the final product is a good example.

The second i saw the thread title i though "oh, this is another KZ2 fight thread".

And it will be. You can already see the competitors jump in the ring. God damn it.

The original Gears tech demo had a really nice dynamic lighting and shadowing system that was replaced with flat lighting and almost zero dynamic shadows in the final game, the only thing that casts shadows in the final game are the characters.

I haven't seen the CG trailers of Heavenly Sword but I would believe this as the game itself looks like it is using the same assets as CG in play.

You did not just post a blurred out pic of a fucking wall with 1/3rd of the screen covered up by the gun as evidence.

You didn't.

In game shots.
Whats your question again?
