Games that no one asked for (good or bad)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Bad:

Nobody asked for a dumbed down consolized version of Deus Ex

Good:

Nobody was really asking for a new turn based X-Com either, but one appeared out of nowhere and it is great.

Battlefield: Bad Company and Bad Company 2. No one ever asked for a Battlefield spinoff, many people thing it's the best parts of the series.

Pokemon Black 2/White2. You'd think after the first games were so horrible they'd try to pretend that B/W never existed and quickly move on to the next generation.
What in the...

I agree that the games getting direct sequels (a first for Pokemon I think) was definitely unexpected and I don't think anyone specifically asked for them, but B/W are some of the best Pokemon games out there. The first (and pretty much only) games with a somewhat decent story and they had fantastic post-game content.

today i learned a knack-style beatemup/platformer Invizimals game came out for the PS3. Certainly a contender

The Goonies II.

I just can't imagine there was any gamers who looked at the original The Goonies on Famicom or NES PCs and thought there was a need for a sequel to it.

Every triple A Ubisoft title for the past 10 years. Just stop guys, please. Go back to just making Rayman games for the sake of us all. Oh and more small stuff like Child of Light and Valiant Hearts.

Final Fantasy 13 side games.

Good: Katamari Damacy

Who in the world was asking for that? If we only had games designed by committee and focus grouping we would never have got a joyful game like Katamari.

Final Fantasy X-2
FF X-2, the first game was great and it ended perfectly. It's a shame X-2 had to come and ruin everything.
Didn't this game actually happen because many fans were clamoring for it after the ending to the original game?

In any case, I think Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a double-serving of people never anticipating the initial concept (SMT x FE) and people never expecting what it actually ended up like.

Every Paper Mario game after TTYD. Super Paper Mario turned out good, but Sticker Star was awful. The jury is still out on Color Splash, but that game has an uphill battle to prove itself after its reveal trailer.

Darkspore. Instead of improving Spore to make it more like it was meant to be they decided to make an Action RPG with that franchise for some reason.

The goonies wasnt on nes just goonies 2. Also it was a pretty decent game at that time around the same as festers quest playstyle.

Going back neogaf to old person cave now.

Ooo, good call. I remember wondering what they were thinking with that.

Good - Rocket League

Never would have thought to ask for soccer with rocket-powered cars. But once I saw the beta thread about a year ago, I thought, "that sounds fucking awesome". Played it and fell in love.

Bad - Secret Ponchos

A small, view-from-above, team-based, multiplayer game where you play as one of a few types of gunslingers in a wild-west setting. Was a PS Plus game in 2014, had loads of issues especially with matchmaking. Idea was cool, but execution was poor.
