Games you unashamedly want more devs to copy

Grandia II's battle system. You could cancel enemy attacks with proper timing, and the action bar made the battle play out in a far more interesting manner than a simple turn based system does imo. If anyone knows any games that have copied it feel free to share.

Gone Home - loved the atmosphere of exploring the house and piecing together the story.

Papers, Please - really liked the idea of such a mundane and tedious activity being used so creatively.

FTL - loved exploring the stars with my crew, coming across random encounters, getting new weapons, etc.

Metroid Prime. I would kill for any publisher/dev to have a GOOD "sci-fi exploration/survival, single protagonist vs environment + huge bosses" series. Like really, just get the whole thing and not include Metroids or Samus. I need more games like this in my life.
This. Metroid Prime has the absolute best combination of exploration and atmosphere. You really can't do it better or even match it unless you copy much of the formula.

I'd also like to add Vanquish. We need more third person shooters in this style. Hell, just copy the sliding.

Danganronpa. Despite having elements from other stuff, it's such a distinct amalgam of craziness it ends up being pretty unique.

Would shoot the visual novel genre even higher for me with more stuff like that.

Zelda. Don't know why more people do it. That action-adventure-puzzle solving-overworld-dungeon format. Darksiders was the closest.

More Monster Hunter games...clearly Capcom isn't fucking smart enough to get that there's a market waiting on North American HD consoles.

The same can be said for single player Dragon Quest games.

Who wouldn't eat up an HD game in the Dragon Quest VIII style?

But no, Square thinks mobile is the future. Ugh.

I want this in more games:

not ragdoll bodies hitting the ground. If im weilding a sword and i cut you, i want your arm to fly off if you didnt block right. If im hitting you point blank with a shotgun....i dont want to see your guy just lay down.

Mirror's Edge

The Last of Us

Heavy Rain (you don't need to copy everything, for instance you could write a better plot and characters!)

Destiny (again, there's a core concept here I want to see properly executed, Destiny isn't quite I definitely want to see more devs iterating on the idea)

Fallout 1 + 2 - the stats actually meant something to the game. Plus, you could do a stupid game and things would be different.

Fallout NV - I enjoyed the interactivity of the world, factions, and quests.

Arx Fatalis

I'd like to see more simulated environments in MMO games, with predators attacking herbivores, animals forming herds and traveling around according to seasons/weather/time of day.
Ryzom had something like that, very rudimentary still, but it was great for immersion.
It also had a Stanza system for skills that extended to crafting and gathering, and a player driven economy, all of which are rather rare nowadays. More would be appreciated.

Also, I wouldn't say no to another Lemmings. Maybe a weird Worms and Lemmings hybrid. Sprite-based, none of that 3D stuff please.
SimCity (2013) - I love me some city builders. SimCity with bigger maps, less focus on DLC, ordinances and etc, id love to see more off. CitiesXL doesn't do a good job. Cities In motion is for transport. Their cities game looks promising, but idk. More variations would help to put a fire for a quality simulator.
I'm on mobile right now, but take a look at http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=989702 . Looks like your dreams came true.

Metroid Prime: The wonderful exploration and atmosphere of the environments.
Journey: Effective story telling with minimalistic narrative open to the players interpretation. Highly stylised visuals.
Souls series: No map with exploration focused progression and palpable atmosphere.
Last of Us: Story maturity that treats its audience like adults.
ICO: Everything in that game but the combat.
Mirrors Edge: The approach to character movement.

Basically what I would do is have a first person exploration game set on a strange planet with the movement of mirrors edge where the environment is multi layered, changing and full of secrets, that is highly stylised and an atmosphere that ranges from the beautiful and calm to dark and oppressive that tells a story that explores a variety of themes allowing the player to come to their own conclusions delivered via world and NPC interaction, no map but a method of making notes on points of interest, oh and most importantly no combat.

I wish more devs made games like the games Platinum makes. And the games Capcom and Konami used to make.

When a game is copied, this always loses an element that made the original great in the first place.

If a dev is going to clone, at least make a clone of something that doesn't have a modern equivalent. But that will never happen because the clones are always about chasing modern successes.

Grandia II's battle system. You could cancel enemy attacks with proper timing, and the action bar made the battle play out in a far more interesting manner than a simple turn based system does imo. If anyone knows any games that have copied it feel free to share.

Did you play Child of Light? Amazing battle system in the Grandia style, especially on Hard.

Terraria and Tales of Symphonia.

Minecraft is really popular, and a lot of people are trying to make clones.
But it feels like a not a lot of people are trying to make Minecraft fusion games. And ones that are really well made.

Though, I do think that Minecraft is helping MMORPGs become more sandbox-like again.

It should be less about cloning games and more about cloning design formulas and taking them in different directions.

I'd argue that Portal was a very good understanding of Zelda's dungeon formula.

Smash Bros, Disgaea, AoE3 and maybe Pokemon/Digimon Dawn & Dusk.

Side note: I just want a sequel to Theme Hospital

Sid Meier's Pirates - Mount and Blade quenched the thirst a bit, though.

Morrowind - I don't get why more companies aren't doing first person action RPGs. My mind is actually fucking boggled. It's like Bethesda has a trademark on it. I want a steampunk fps/rpg, a wild west one, give it to me, ignore the worry.

Is there anything like the old Rampage games where you destroy a city as a monster?

God no, but that's a great idea. I have an itch that needs to be scratched. We played sooo much Rampage back in the day on NES.

I wanted a Phantom Dust successor for a long time but I'm getting a reboot so there's that. Freedom fighters or war of the monsters would be excellent.

Ghost Recon, the older ones. Less bunny hopping ADHD shooters like TF and COD.

Let's get a great Monster Hunter-like game on consoles, fuck handhelds.

Pokemon-like games on consoles, fuck handhelds.

More Legend of Grimrock, more Dark Souls.

World's slowest-moving shotgun pellets.
