That was obvious pick and damn right one. Even our missmass of gamers that can't seem to agree anything at GAF voted RE4 by a overwhelming margin for GOTY, vocal minority be damned!!

Its not my favorite of the year (either GoW or CoD2), but its the right pick. Plain and simple. Best game of the year.

Most of the bitching in this thread is like "ZOMG! It cant be GOTY because I personally didnt love it! And only a game upon which I suck the proverbial teet can win!".

Gamespot picked Resident Evil 4 for GOTY and theirs not a damn thing you can do about it.

Because it's a good game, but not as great as people are saying it is. People act as if RE4 is a revolution in gaming or something when it brings nothing, absolutely nothing new to the table. Like this post here:



Shadow of the Colossus is better than RE4. It's much mroe interesting, and has much better replay value. It's also doesn't get BORING AS FUCK halfway through the game like RE4. Another example, GTAIII. I've replayed GTAIII from front to back, beginning to end 5 times this generation. It's most definitely my gotg. RE4 is not as compelling or interesting as GTAIII. A few more examples: SMT: Nocturne, Suikoden III, Psychonauts, Devil May Cry 3..just a few examples in the past few 2-3 years. RE4 doesn't bring anything new but each of those titles listed above are special in their own way. I never got that from RE4. I'm not here to troll but I honsestly just don't understand what is so amazing about RE4 aside from shooting fuckers in the face 2093408 times. I'd LIKE for someone who loves RE4 so much to explain why it's so good to me.

Your basis for it not being GOTY was:

- SOTC is "more interesting" (to you) and has better replay value (for you; since when was replay value required of great games? HL2 was great, but Im sure Ill never trudge through it again)
- RE4 was "boring as fuck" (to you)
- RE4 was uncompelling (to you)
- RE4 doesnt bring anything new. Please guide me towards the previous RE games that had realtime environments, QTEs, and played anything like RE4.

You do not speak for the majority. As evidenced by the GAF GOTY, and now Gamespot. Or perhaps youre just the "indie" :lol gamer, who publicly hates popular titles, because hating the mainstream is cool.

I dunno, RE4 I've found kind of boring. I'm stuck at the part right after you leave the large house and a chainsaw guy comes after you... I just couldn't work up the motivation to go any further. The controls are kind of frustrating me, too.

On the other hand, I haven't played anything else this year that looked like a GotY. Maybe the FFIV remake for GBA.

You havent really 'played' RE4 yet. Just carry on for abit more and see how you go.
