Reilo said:To criticize the PS3 for some things and not do likewise for the other consoles -- primarly Wii's online strategy and X360s failure rates -- is what makes this FUD.
Reilo said:Not to make this a HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray discussion, but to primarly prove that Gamespot has no idea what they are talking about: Blu-Ray is already outselling HD-DVD in both SOFTWARE and HARDWARE. FACT. This info is provided by Nelson Media Scan.

So not really, but kinda.

I think you will be better off using independent numbers rather than quoting the company promoting it.Every week it grows, said Rich Marty, VP of new business development at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, a Blu-ray backer. Its growing faster than DVD did. Each month it just looks more and more promising.

I don't doubt that Sony's gambit has earned them a victory over HD-DVD, I just don't think any next gen movie format is ever going to take over DVD in the PS3's lifetime.

Judging by your post history I do not expect you to though.

mckmas8808 said:But does it have to? I mean can't Blu-ray live beside DVD? What if by 2010 Blu-ray has 40% market share that year, while DVD has 60%?
reilo said:There are more standard definition TVs sold right now than HDTVs. Does that make HDTVs a failure?
Again, not trying to derail the topic, but considering that nearly everyone wrote off Blu-Ray less than 3 months ago and the way it is doing now is worth noting. To call it a 'failure' this early on in its lifetime is the same type of approach the writers took when writing that article.
chibcicylist said:That neutralizes my point how exactly?
BenjaminBirdie said:I don't think it's a failure. It's just doesn't strike me as a particularly fruitful long term endeavor, as I've believed for a long time that digital movie distribution will catch on long before HD movie have a chance to supercede DVDs.

mckmas8808 said:Chib just to let you know, blu-ray has a 67% marker share in the high def movie area this year. There are figures in that article.

chibcicylist said:Well, both systems are doing relatively well. But that's not the point I was really trying to make anyway.
mckmas8808 said:That could be true. But I have to ask, are you talking about HD digital distribution? And do you think people will just not want to buy disc anymore?
davepoobond said:not compared to the iPod.

I think downloadable games on PC/XBL/PSN/VC have a better chance of taking over retail games before downloadable movies take over retail. Pretty slim pickings for both imo.BenjaminBirdie said:I don't think it's a failure. Seriously just because some now sales 600,000 units instead of 900,000 units doesn't mean doom and gloom

ps3 doesn't even have a recently played list and if a game dev wants to do their own it resets after each time the console is shut down------STUPID
Phil discussed this issue in an interview recently. Its the one where he said that DVD uspcaling was coming eventually.contaygious said:gamespot is right though. sony needs to get basic tools to developers and basic online features like messages without leaving games before worrying about all this HOME stuff.

Sony did announce tools at GDC. But most ignore that because its a developer only kind of thing, I think. Either that or Home/LBP drowned out the noise from those tools. Online features will come I'm sure of it. Friends list access in game should be coming in 1.6 firmware coming on the 23rd IIRC.contaygious said:gamespot is right though. sony needs to get basic tools to developers and basic online features like messages without leaving games before worrying about all this HOME stuff.
