Xbox series isnt selling past 55-65 million units. You can quote me in a few years Lol.

Its numbers arent doing better than how Xbox 1 started.
And they are coming into the generation alot weaker than how Xbox 1 came in after 360.
Its not about hate, I liked OG xbox and 360 its just my opinion and I think its gonna do roughly the numbers between xbox 1 and 65 million
You completely overlook the fact that Microsoft aren't in the sole race of selling consoles. Xbox is permeating every platform they can.

Good with PR and making the xbox ecosystem look seamless but still no games really that make me want to get an xbox so idk I wouldn't say things are fully swinging up for Xbox just yet

Doesn't the phrase "turning it around" often refer to a large, non nimble, ship?

Phil Spencer turning a ship around is one thing. Saying "But his ship isn't where the other ships are right now" is an entirely different conversation.

These articles won't be warranted until the point in the generation where Xbox's exclusive lineup actually begins to rival PlayStation's. That won't be for at least three years, if it ever occurs.

Nobody cares about "excitement and unpredictability," people by consoles to play exclusive games, Xbox has none.

I'm not sure if he's actually succeeded on a large enough scale to matter but I certainly plan on getting a Series X now and I never even considered getting an Xbone. At least not until they ramped up the BC anyway.

This narrative false. Recore, Quantum Break, Ryse, Sunset Overdrive were first party/second party titles, while on THE PS4 was mostly quiet for the first three years.

Sony studios hit the top gear, and you saw titles pushed out. Sony first party content was not great between the year 2013 and 2016.

Bloodbourne was released by a third/second party dev studio. Sony did not own the studio.
Ready at Dawn- Order 1886, same.

In reality Sony success depends on Guerilla games, Sucker Punch, and Naughty dog. Insomnaic will provide backup with Spiderman and other titles.

MS at this stage has 30 something owned studios and does not look the are stopping yet..

Sony got around 15+ owned studios, so the potential is massive for Xbox. Now is about delivering the content for its fanbase.

Sony needs to find a breakout multiplayer hit.

They can't be releasing 20 hour single player games twice a year.

As important as those games are, it leaves waaaaaay too much time for gamers to be left twiddling their thumbs watching GamePass get bolstered all the time.

PlayStation needs an exclusive that people play for 5+ years.

Yeah they can sell gamepass on PC but lets not pretend they didnt make 4 consoles in 4 years to not sell them?
It would be good sell consoles to sell gamepass At the very least. No xbox sales = not a good look.

If I wanted to play xbox games which I will at the end of the generation Id get an xbox, cant afford a pc and lol at streaming on mobile

Interesting. Share the XSX and XSS sales figures then, i'm pretty sure it would be appreciated ona forum like this.
I saw it on another website. Supposedly its just behind xbox 1 sales. If I come across it again ill post it.
TBH the Series X is a much better console than Xbox 1 is ( at the time ) its just the hype is less going from the 360 generation

Lmao, I love the salt that Xbox is creating this gen. Some people seriously can't stand seeing Xbox being successful.

You realize these consoles keep on selling beyond the first year, and that they're currently supply-constrained right? Xbox has an insane amount of system sellers in the pipeline that'll push consoles throughout the gen, unlike with the Xbox One. Add in Game Pass... Yea, Xbox is going to be incredibly successful this gen.

You need to be able to prove that they are making lots of money Too...
That's not how it works. You said they're making no profit. I said you have to prove that.

still I see no1 discrediting that quote since.
He didn't say what you're saying he said.
They just paid MLB for gamepass day 1. That aint free... it costs money. For every game they are putting on gamepass, especially day 1, it costs money.
Spending 7 billion on Bethesda parent company and having there games on gamepass, will cost lots of money.
Of course it costs money. And the fact they're doing it now and haven't been for the last three years proves that they've hit an internal milestone.

Is that milestone a level of profitability that makes these third party deals make sense? That'd be the common sense approach. Your job is to prove your claim that its not profitable.
For every 3rd party game they put on gamepass they will be getting less sales because people will play it on gamepass and not buy it as much, plus they need to pay each studio for it to come on gamepass.
Okay, but that's something worked out between third parties and MS. It says nothing about profitability.

For every 1st party studio game they are making, they are losing potential sales too.
MS has the money to afford this model.
Both Forza Horizon 4 and Sea of Thieves have sold very well on top of Gamepass.

Do you think the likes of Fallout 5 won't sell mlions if copies on top of Gamepass?
XXX more subcribers, alot of them are like $1 deals
Source?

The comment was there was no 1st party games on the XSX|S at launch. Gears Tactics launched on consoles when XSX|S launched. It was not on console before that. You can move goal posts to score some sort of point but the statement was factually false. Games being on PC doesn't matter especially when talking about Xbox.
It launched on PC, your fanfiction won't change that fact.

Lol what world do some of you people live in, seriously.
The real world. I game as a hobby but manage projects as a profession. The ignorance, oversight and incompetence required for your main product to be in such a sorry state, after so much time and money is spent on it, is unforgivable. For 'Phil' to show that AND be excited about it shows how out of touch he is.

If you think any of that is acceptable you are vastly short on experience in the real world.
Finally someone gets it.

If Moore and Allard were brought back today I'd genuinely say PS has a huge fight on their hands. These guys had the Xbox division firing on all cylinders during the Xbox 360 Era.
What a fucking awesome console that was.
Thank you. gif

The most infuriating part about it is how 'xbox fans' call us stupid, nuts, laugh at our opinions. Yet if these 'fans' would wind their necks in, stfu and take notes, the xbox would be smashing Sony World wide.

I've argued til I'm bored with 'xbox fans' on the Internet, and it started with the lack of innovation towards the end of the life of the 360, carried on through kinect and xbox one and nothing hasn't changed.

Putting Halo in my big black slab of love in March 2001 and listening to that opening BGM, tingles mate, proper tingles.

Now I think about that franchise and it just repulses me because of how far xbox has fallen. And nothing will change because fans, aren't fans.

Xbox is the Man utd of the console world.

More like 3 1/2 years ago. When you're stuck behind Phil Harrison, Don Mattrick and Terry Myerson with no money, no resources and everything is built around Kinect (SMFH), I don't care who you are because you're not doing shit. Phil became "The Man" in late 2017. Since 2018, all you have to do is compare the last three years to the previous three years. It's like two different companies and directions.

Once this current generation ends, Phil Spencer will be the best that Xbox has ever had running the brand surpassing Peter Moore. Best of all, we're only six months into the generation and Microsoft/Phil Spencer are doing amazing thus far and compared to the first six months of Xbox One, it's like night and day.

Super hyped for XBOX this generation and with Microsoft 1000% backing up Phil Spencer and with him having no one in his fucking way, this will be the best generation for Xbox and it won't even be close.

I'm not really sure I buy it - everything comes across as brute-force churlishness. The biggest fanfare MS have received in the last few years is for Game Pass, which, from a user perspective is pretty damned fantastic, but from a business perspective is just a super competitive pricing strategy built around yet another subscription service (the so-called 'Netflix of gaming' that armchair execs on here have been talking about for years). It's good for gamers, but as a business strategy it's hardly inspired.

The studio acquisitions are the same sort of the 'throw money at the problem' kind of approach - to the extent of buying an entire publisher, complete with studios and IPs (presumably to hobble the opposition because XBOX would have gotten all these games even without the acquisition). Their existing studios did little to set the world on fire last generation (excluding Playground who might be the most bankable studio going) with solid output that always fell just short of truly special. Is the biggest issue the company has had all generation and despite having six years to put meaningful change into action, XBOX entered the next generation with barely even the promise of games. There are plenty of announced titles, a few pre-rendered trailers, but no gameplay to back it up. The one game they did show off - Halo Infinite - was received so poorly, it turned their flagship IP into a meme.

And that whole situation stinks of an company that don't know their own products; that couldn't tell at a glance that that gameplay footage was not ready for primetime. I don't know what's been happening with 343 Industries, but that Halo Infinite wasn't able to hit the next gen launch window (by what's looking to be a year or so) points to management oversight. On top of that, the lack of daring in execution shows how little faith in the creative power of their studios. Why are The Coalition still iterating on a model that Epic created back in 2006? They're an outstanding studio - give them a proper budget and total creative freedom and they'd turn you out a 90+ title.

Then there's the last six months. Phil's big boast going into this generation was 'we won't be beaten on price or power' and despite the pledge, despite being so confident that he floated most of his marketing strategy on it, they ended up breaking even on both. And yeah, yeah, it's the tools or whatever, but if that's the case then it's the company again, who had an entire generation to regroup for round two and still seem to have shown up unprepared.

I meant not much profit. And until I see numbers on how much profit its making I dont think it has changed much because they are bringing over other services like EA and Ubisoft which must cost alot too. And all the other 3rd party games.

Taken from that interview: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-game-pass-is-not-a-big-moneymaker-right-now-b/1100-6480241/

“Greenberg said people don't need to worry about Microsoft--they'll be just fine. In terms of the profitability of Xbox Game Pass for Microsoft, Greenberg confirmed it's "not a big profit play" right now, as Microsoft is just starting the program. Greenberg said the investments Microsoft is making in Xbox Game Pass today might be costly in the short term, but they will ultimately pay dividends down the road if everything goes to plan.

“To help get Xbox Game Pass growing, Microsoft offered subscriptions for only $1. This helped the subscriber base grow to more than 10 million so far. If Microsoft is indeed losing money on Xbox Game Pass right now, the company can afford to take the hit, it seems.”

"We always laugh [when we hear that]. Please don't worry about us," Greenberg said about people expressing concerns that Microsoft is losing money on Xbox Game Pass. "Microsoft is going to be alright. We're gonna make it--I think we're gonna be OK."

With Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft is focusing on over-delivering on value, even if it comes at the cost of profits in the short term.”

All Im saying is Its a Great service for people who want that I admit. But its because MS can afford it, they are in the trillion dollar club. They will be fine regardless.
They will be fine if the whole xbox division collapses. Unlike Sony and Nintendo, they can afford to lose the gaming division and still be one of the biggest most profitable companies in the world. They can also afford to keep this module going forever regardless of it not making much profit or breaking even.

And TBH if Xbox wasnt talking gamepass, they would have had a very lame generation, its whats keeping them in the conversation In the gaming world. They are throwing everything at it because they want it to work and replace the current/old model of selling games. They can afford to lose money to beat Nintendo and Sony down the long road.

Atm its not making much money, getting all these games and other services on gamepass costs money and its something they can afford to do to beat the competition.

I think having these games on gamepass will effect the sales yes, otherwise Sony and Nintendo would rather put there exclusives day one on a subscription based service, but they are actually making more profits doing what they are doing.

But if gamepass carries on doing well, it will put pressure on Nintendo and Sony to change because fans want things to be cheaper, Im sure MS is banking on it like a Trojan horse. Other companies probably cant afford to make these triple AAA games to be day 1 on subscription because it costs alot Of money to make these games. MS can Afford it.

As for Fallout 5, It will probably sell millions, but less so than Fallout 4 because alot of people will have it on gamepass etc. Same as forza, Im not sure about Sea of Thieves. I like sea of thieves and Forza, Fallout not so much

It matters where it launches first, if PC game is ported to PS5 doesn't make it launch exclusive for PS5.
I see this overly technical argument all the time. When talking about exclusives a LOT of people are referring to consoles only. It's churlish not to acknowledge that.

If a PC game is ported to PS5 exclusively, then it's a Playstation exclusive as far as the massive throng of console gamers are concerned.

It really does not matter where it launches first.

I find all this false praise to Phil Spencer just for a subscription service to be utterly comical.

Wake me up whenever Microsoft studios has a Game of the Year caliber title, then I will give Phil some praise.
Games are obviously on their way. Next-gen AAA development takes a lot of time, but the games are coming. Calm before the storm.

Phil’s done an absolutely amazing job helping the brand rise from the ashes of the Xbox One disaster , imo.

I've been having the same hopes and dreams for Xbox since 2008. Been all downhill ever since then.

Throwing money at the problem won't necessarily work. We'll see...in a few years.

While I sort of agree...why? There are tons of 3rd party MP games people want to play anyway like COD or Fortnite etc....or sports games like Madden, Fifa, even have MMOs like FF14 out on console, GTA online another one.

Last of US 2 multiplayer is on the horizon at some point so maybe that will be a breakout MP hit but who knows since nothing has been revealed but its been almost a year since Last of US 2 went gold.

I just think its hard to find a breakout multiplayer hit when there are a TON of them out there that come out all the time.

I would say that is easily objectively true and its the same price as its competitor for disc version. I think the Halo disaster prob killed alot of the hype for it. Heck even I was thinking about buying an X if I could find one alot easier over a PS5 if Halo was a must have launch game but that went up in flames and disaster and now they have practically nothing until I dont even know when. Is Halo really still the next closest big exclusive? Not like PS5 is crushing it either but I would say they are at least a bit ahead and had also just released FF7 remake, LOU2, and Ghosts of T, within this past year.

He "turned things around" because xbox fans are telling him what to do, for a long time. So yeah he done nothing by himself, you are not good at your job when you need your fans to guide you to the right direction, all the time...
Might as well replace him with a poll vote, the results would be better on how to run xbox division than with him.

Im sure im not alone for years in trying to believe the above to be true. That the games are coming and I will have really good reasons to buy into the XBOX ecosystem for years and years and years now. Seems like if anything other than Forza everything has just gotten even worse with the Halo series and Gears, although that one could be argued. If the next Halo and Starfield(if its exclusive) knock it out of the park it would be hard to not look to jump in but I feel like its just been year after year of playing the waiting game.

Phil is a good PR guy so credit where it's due. The other stuff would boil down to investing billions in buying studios and giving away the product in the form of gamepass.

Delusional lol.

Xbox - 24million
360 - 84million
Xbox 1 - Lesson than 55 million
Xbox series - Selling less than XB1 comparatively

360 sold well because it had a year sales without the PS3 on the market.
PS3 started horribly
It was cheaper than the PS3,
It did 3rd party games better than the ps3,
Did online so much better and was the best place to play games like COD. Halo was huge and so was Gears.
It was also the first time it Got a bunch of playstation centric games liek DMC, Tekken and FInal Fantasy

XBox didnt have these advantages last gen and it doesnt this gen.

You delusional if you think it will sell close to the 360 numbers lol.
Halo isnt the same, and neither is gears and nothing so far shows it will sell like the 360.

Its not priced the same and the general public is not that into the XBox. Most people dont even know what gamepass is lol...

Agree with this. I am mainly a PC and PS gamer but did have the OG XBOX for brief time later in its lifecycle and even I really considered buying a 360 over PS3 but for consoles im pretty much offline singleplayer but if I had played MP any decent bit I would have bought a 360 as the online was much better imo.

I don't think he has done anything spectacular. The gamepass change is quite brilliant for a small percentage of gamers that have the free time to download and play that many games. I have it for 2 more years on the $1 deal but am not taking advantage of it mostly because I play the games I want to play and none are on gamepass.
