in a few seconds some people will go nuts over the probably place holder price.

Also, thread title could have used "Gamestop italy" >>

The official price announcement thread is going to be glorious. The launch lineup is looking really..bleak.
"BOTW! Maybe!..Mario?... What do you want from us?"

I was in a gamestop yesterday before they closed and asked about switch preorders. They said something about having more info on the 12th. Which just happens to be the day Nintendo has its showing.

Basically what mine said two weeks ago. They usually don't do pre-orders until a date is close to final, and that's likely going to be with the conference on the 12th. They said that I should probably be there at opening that day, just in case.

Expecting another Ness amiibo pre-order fiasco, where their computers crash that day and it takes an hour for any pre-orders to start, and only the first 7 on line or whatever get it.

Gamestop Ireland has been doing pre orders since before christmas.

Yep, GAME here in the Uk have been doing them for a while as well. Kind of regret not doing it before but I'm gonna get my preorder in before the inevitable January 12th rush, games and accessories can be ordered later.

I hope Best Buy gets their preorders up same day. Rather go there out of convenience than my EB Games. I only go to EB Games when I feel like trading something in.

Launch is probably going to be a bunch of fucking Wii U ports. We know of Mario Kart 8 port and Splatoon port and Mario Maker and Smash 4 port is rumored so it'll be filled to the brim with stuff we played before. Oh yeah and don't forget Skyrim Remastered port too.

I kinda want to do that, but is there much point if there's more than one SKU?

That might be an issue. The 4am time frame (and an exam later that day) means I can't walk in really early but I should be able to go at about 3-4pm that day. I suppose it should be fine, I doubt it will be as hectic as it inevitably will be in America.

What are the chances Nintendo lowballs their initial supply yet again and not all preorders are fulfilled?

Well, 2 million units WW at launch is a known quantity, depends on pre-orders really, I expect shortages personally, then it comes down to how fast they can fill the channel and how long demand lasts.

Haha I think I checked game or shopto back when they showed the 3 min trailer and it was £999, and game have a history of accidentally charging people for pre-orders multiple times. I thought it was best to wait.

Why would you preorder a console that you have no idea about its price, power, game line up.

Us here specifically, or people in general? I think people following certain thread here on the forum do actually have a good idea of the power & game line up, and since they don't charge until dispatch, price is of little matter, it's about placing yourself in the line etc.

People in general probably don't even know these pages are up yet, and if they do maybe they just know they want it? If they've bought the gameboy, GBA, ds, 3DS and been happy every time, and saw the announcement?

Answered as a real question, even though it may be a bit of a troll? Can't tell.

Yes, please tell us more about that bleak launch lineup you seem to know about despite nothing actually being announced yet :p

It's gonna play Nintendo games and it's more powerful than a Wii U. That's enough for plenty of people to want to buy one. If it's too expensive you can just cancel your preorder, right? *shrug*

Better to want one and be able to get one, or want one and then change your mind, than to want one but not be able to grab it because it turns out to be a hot item.

A new 3D Mario and a new 3D Zelda on day one would cement the Switch's launch as the greatest ever, for me. Throw in the Splatoon port and the case is made even greater.

It's been up on Gamestop's Irish website for weeks, with a placeholder price of 499. I have had mine pre-ordered since before Christmas.

Ket's just hope the game prices won't be as crazy as those for the PS4...

I wasn't trolling nor trying to diss or anything. I just think these websites could have waited the full reveal in a few days before launching the preorders.

Yep but at least my gamestop takes down names in order we arrived and lets us get preorders in still. Sadly the problem with the ness fiasco was just that it took forever because they were trying to use the system which was running slowly and eventually crapped out. So while you still will probably get your preorder it just might take a while. Still really annoyed that one of the first people in line was a mom that called her kid up at the register just to ask what he wanted. Just completely wasted time to get more orders in before their system went down. But yea get there early so maybe you can get your order in before the computers start slowing down.

They're not really launching pre-orders as such though, it's not the same as the proper pre-order campaign they (stores) will have, sending out emails and touting bundles and deals etc. They're setting the pages up so that they are there available on the 12th, when they'll update to add the real price. As mentioned, most of the population won't even know that's there yet.

Also, you've definitely changed the question there. Your first post is definitely of the "why would consumer pre-order because X reaosn" and your new response is very much "why would X store put it up"

If someone is still not so sure about that price being a placeholder, at the end of the Gamestop page it says "if the price is smaller, we refund the difference".
