GameTrailers' Kingdom Hearts Timeline Video

That was great and addressed everything. I guess I already had a pretty good understanding of the story too, because I'm pretty sure I knew everything that was mentioned. That Kingdom Hearts Soundtrack brings out the nostalgia for me, that's for sure.

Your inability to give a proper retort and, instead, use one of the most generic gifs ever is what's really funny here.

These are the facts:

Kingdom Hearts...
  • Is one of the best selling series of all time
  • Majority of the games have recieved critical acclaim
  • Has fans around the world that have been discussing, analyzing, and speculating for years
  • Has one of the best collective OSTs in music history
  • And maintains a high level of quality on every platform it's on.

I'm sorry, but in any other form of media, such as television or novels, people would be praising the complexity and triumphs the series has made over the years.

With all that said, Dream Drop Distance is a hot mess.

I only got to watch about 30 mins of this before having to head out, but I do wish someone would do a "Science of Kingdom Hearts" video. I mean, I'd love for an explanation to be given out to detail how the heart works in the series, how the artificial keyblade was made by using the Hearts of the Princesses of Heart, and how Sora was able to open the path to Kingdom Hearts after releasing their hearts and "killing himself".

There was a lot of information in Ansem (SoD)'s artificial heartless testing chambers in Hollow Bastion that explained this sorta of stuff. Just would've loved to see someone say it out loud.

I really hope III shows up at E3. I think this every E3 but with no official KH game down the pipeline aside from a 2.5 remix I really hope we finally get this shit over with. I'm not sure how many more iterations I can take without getting a finale.

The thing about Kingdom Hearts is that it's always climaxing. Every game is always building up and building up and building up, but all of this means nothing if there's no end in sight which diminishes the feelings created by the climax in each of these games.

Absolutely no way. The current roadmap is probably more something like: 1.5 western coverage at E3 > 2.5 japanese announcement and coverage at TGS > 2.5 western coverage at E3 next year. With KHIII being *maybe* announced sometime next year. And I'm optimist when I say that.

I thought it was interesting how they explained "X" had a special significance, how it showed up as various insignias/marks/scars, and how the name for the "nobody" characters are all anagrams of their original names with an X added. That's why they decided to go with a name as stupid as Roxas.

Fantastic video, enjoyable and makes me hyped for KH3.

Also while I've not played much of BBS, I love Aqua's character design and hope we get more of her in KH3.

Great video, Explained alot. I'm still lost on some parts though but that's just because I wasn't paying full attention. Watching the video, I felt sorry for Terra and Roxas.

The summaries have always left me annoyed and confused regardless. This one seems good though, so I'll be giving it a full watch..

I think it will. They promised us one game every year after all.

2013 - Kingdom Hearts 1.5
2014 - Kingdom Hearts 2.5
2015 - Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Final Mix
2016 - Theathrythm: Kingdom Hearts
2017 - Kingdom Hearts 3D HD Remix: Anima Inpact Festival
2018 - Kingdom Hearts: All The Bravest
2019 - Kingdom Hearts 3
From what I've gathered, they are already working on Kingdom Hearts III, to some extent (the Osaka team is considered as the KH team by Nomura nowadays and they seem to have been working on something big since Dream Drop Distance, at least the part of who haven't been put on the HD ReMix). It's more likely that it's 1.5 HD ReMix in 2013, 2.5 HD ReMix in 2014 and III in 2015.

I mostly agree with you, but two of your listed facts are opinions.

Wow, nearly an hour long.

GT and Mike D, I love you for doing this!

I'm so excited to see this!

The music, the story, the disney, the final fantasy, the friendship, the drama, sooo goood!

Okay, this franchise has made so many ridiculous moves with it's story, they might as well just make the shocking revelation that Kingdom Hearts was Tetsuya Nomura this whole time orchestrating everything, making him the final boss.

Not going to happen.

E3 2014.

That convoluted hot ass mess of story is what makes Kingdom Hearts so great! The video gave me chills, mostly due to nostalgia and the awesome music. I barely knew about KH3D but wow that story is pretty horrible, even for KH standards.

And Aqua is by far the best character in the series.

Great video so far, just finished Xehanorts story (had to stop since the video timed out). Good choices for game symbols.

Dream Drop Distance's story is still nonsense.

Also I DONT CARE ABOUT BRIDGIT MENDLER, GODDAMN

Dream Drop Distance took the series into Toriyama tier territory, but I must admit I am excited about i what it did at the end.

The ultimate conclusion : 7 Lights vs 13 Darknesses, Kairi potentially being not useless for once by getting some keyblade training. Exciting times ahead

It's an incredibly silly (genius?) play on words. But GameTrailers stopped shy of the full mark, presumably since it inevitably falls into the area of speculation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi
The literal translation of "qi" is "breath", "air", or "gas".

So basically... Sora = Air = Chi/Qi/Ki = Key = Life.

You could interpret the X anagrams as Xemnas placing a bit of himself into the future vessels.
You can directly equate the heart of all worlds (Kingdom Hearts) with Final Fantasy VII's Lifestream.
You probably can't properly explain Namine's existence without Chi.

Video's still great for getting everyone more or less on the same page.

One thing i sorta just noticed outside of Mickey there are literally no Disney characters that have any impact on the story, including Donald and Goofy

Jumping from PS2 level assets for over a decade to PS4 probably near CG level quality will be absolutely ridiculous....

HOOK KH3 TO MY VEINS NOW!

Playing KH2 myself and after some observation of its fanbase...

I can come to the conclusion that KH fans are either very young, very young when they first played the game (as in teenagers around 12-14), or are girls.

Not a lot of older gamers like KH.

I feel like this series is probably the best example of a series that relies heavily on nostalgia for it's critical acclaim.

Only a young fanbase can appreciate it's declining story filled with teen angst and generic JRPG cringe-worthy characters (Rikka, Sora), not to mention anyone over 20 can't take themselves seriously spamming with Goofie and Donald Duck.

Besides the very controversial story that has gone so downhill and loopy, the gameplay is really nothing to talk about.

It's a generic hack and slash at best that's pretty much just mashing triangle.

All in all, I think it's one of the most overrated series ever - stale gameplay, and maybe a story with potential that's ridden with terrible presentation containing generic and lame JRPG tropes and childish Disney effects.

One thing I do give credit to KH - it has fantastic music.

I was pretty big into Kingdom Hearts I and II and was super excited for III. Never cared to play any handheld games. Tried to watch series summarization videos, but they only left me more and more confused. Lost almost all interest in III.

Watched this in its entirety, and the story doesn't seem that complex at all. Actually made some sense. Sort of interested to see how it ends in III now, for nostalgia's sake if nothing else.

No matter how bad the KH story gets, I think I'll have a soft spot for it until it ends. It may be convoluted and badly written but for me it is more charming than most games out there.

If you do not like kh, go for it.
Overrated it is not, you just do not like it.It suggest that people are some how wrong for liking it, which they are not. And then those fan base assumptions...

Well those are my two cents.

I've only played KH1 back when it was originally released on the PS2. Are the games past KH1 engaging enough that knowing the story won't make them worthless to play, and hence I can go ahead and watch this? I only ask because I plan to play the HD remakes when they're released.

I hate DDD but to be fair the important plot points going forward are pretty simple (in fact I would say you didn't need a game to spell it out) as you've pointed out in your spoiler.

They are fun ARPGs, especially Re:Coded and BBS but if you do plan on playing the HD collections I'd say don't watch this. KH story is actually pretty great for the WTF moments and it's quite enganging (again BBS shining here...see the pattern?). So if you can, bookmark this, play the HD collection and see what you think about Days and CoM and then decide, since CoM is really when story goes into proper wtf territory.

KH2, BBS, 3D sure. Maybe Re: CoM too. Probably not Days and Recoded (though there isn't much story in Recoded to speak of). Days is cutscenes only in 1.5 and Recoded likely will be too in 2.5.

But honestly I recommend just waiting to play the games...

Are you one of the people playing KH2 on Normal?

Yeah I did, but I'd gladly put money that the majority of people who have played KH2 did in fact play it first, on normal. If you think otherwise, please enlighten me, because you know that i'm right.

That's true I don't like it, but I stated why I don't like it. The gameplay is nothing special, and like I said, from the fanbase - it's pretty much true, I'd like to see the age census of all the people who posted in this thread, and I'd guarantee we'd see a trend that the fans played KH when they were around 10-14 years old.

You can't deny that the story of KH is so cheesy, and teen-angsty, hell, a lot of the fans in this thread seem to have a love-hate relationship with it, to the point where they think "it's a joke". That Timeline video was evidence enough -

Kingdom Hearts plot is even worse than MGS plot ( due note I'm a big MGS fan but I can acknowledge that the plot is just straight-up Kojima nanomachine retarded at times).

Having someone narrate the complete nonsense of that KH timeline just shows how convoluted and stupid it can sound.

Tell me why you like the KH series - I'm actually curious as in to why, because i feel like it usually is a nostalgia thing.
