GCW Zero - new retrogaming open source handheld!

I'm tremendously disappointed to read all this because I really want to buy a nice retro-gaming console and I don't want a 7" behemoth - and you know how it is with chinese devices, you need to be extremely conscientious of what you buy (Never had any trouble with my Cubot M6589 cellphone though, save for the fact that some Kairosoft games work wonky and I can't get Horn to work)

Anyone knows of a good, cheap, retro handheld?
Check out one of these!

Alright. You'll have to pardon my trepidation, given the Ithic post and Justin's silence until the update a moment ago.

Both Ithic and Dragonbox bought preorder units. These are not intended as retail units, but there is nobody stopping them from selling units in their webshops. Just like people are free to resell their units on Ebay.

This thing has been a mess, but at least the device actually exists. Hopefully I'll have my KS unit by the end of August.

There's 0 chance of that happening. I'm starting to expect next year at the earliest seeing how shipping 120 SE units took him 3 months.

God this dude is full of it. He keeps implying he might get them over to Europe in a way that will allow the EU backers to avoid paying the VAT. He has zero intention of doing that. Nobody should expect that anyway, yet he keeps on being vague on purpose.

I also like how this also implies that all the systems will be flashed by Sunday without specifically saying as such. Yeah right.

Edit: Also "We" will start flashing instead of "I" as it's clearly still just him.
Yeah. All of his updates have been really suspect in my opinion. He loves the vague, ambiguous language.

Yesterday Justin posted an update to say he was "approaching the 500 mark of consoles flashed " in just one day. At this rate they should all be flashed pretty soon (athough there was no mention of testing).

One of the SE backers who showed up to help prep the consoles has said that QC was done in the same step as flashing, and that the d-pad issues had been resolved on all of the Zeros he tested.

Takes months to flash and mail SE units. Takes days to flash and mail Kickstarter units? Glad he finally got his butt in gear if true. Maybe he finally realized that he was never going to get to a point where he can order more and start making money off this thing at the rate he was going.

We would have never made all the progress we had if not for the people who volunteered to help.
Snesfan
Thad
Bryan
Kyong
John and his two wonderful daughters
Pride and Cathy at GoinPostal in Platte City
Barry and Brandon for stopping by and cheering us on and supporting us....
Without these guys and gals especially Snesfan which drove 8 hours to be part of this we would have never got 500+ consoles flashed.
Yeah, it would take weeks/months if it's just Justin, but it looks like he's getting some help now.

Updated my firmware and software on the Dingoo A320 yesterday.

Man this thing still runs perfect. If only i could clean the dust under the screen somehow.

I mean look at this:

how is all that dirt UNDER the screen...

Eagerly waiting for the Zero to mainly get a bigger screen :D

What the heck? I still use my PSP-2000 and DSLite and have no dust under the screens at all. How did that happen?

theres some kind of a fault in the design of the Dingoo :P And this is just from regular use. I haven't been to the beach with it or anything :D

Some of the Kickstarter backers have reported receiving their shipping confirmation. Where is mine? :(

;) Ah, I can wait. I have a ton of other games I need to complete.

I'm starting to wish I'd held off on this. Not due to the delays, but the Nvidia Shield looks like a much better emulation device, with lots of extra functionality thrown in.

I'll wait until the Zero arrives and get some hands on time before deciding if I'm going to keep it or not.

Nah, the Shield is way too expensive, huge android device with a bad screen! :D

The Shield is still running on Android. Wait for detailed reviews of emulator performance to show up before buying.

Kickstarter supporters have started to receive their shipment tracking numbers. I'm hoping I'll get mine before the end of the month.

That doesn't mean anything. A tracking number can be generated before the item ships. It could still be weeks before he even mails a single one of them.

Edit: Although someone just posted that their tracking info says it's already been delivered so maybe he actually is mailing them out.

I'm a kickstarter and don't have mine yet not any shopping notification.

Does this thing have emulators ready to roll out of the gate?

I'm wondering why I got one at this point but whatevers.

Yeah no shipping notification here either, i ordered 2 for my brother and myself as well :(. Hopefully ill get my b4 the summer ends for some outside retro garden goodness

The hype seems to have died down. But is GWC still worth getting as a handheld emulator system? How does it compare emuwise to say, PSP with cfw?
