Gears of War 3 "Dust to Dust" trailer

Azura, RustLung
If they try and charge me for Azura I'll be livid, especially as that was one of the first maps they showed, and is almost certainly complete.

Wait, what's this? Those two maps aren't at launch ?

I love what you've done with the place.

The Xtortionist said:
Nope, only 10 maps at launch.

That's a good size for launch, but I don't buy for a second that those maps weren't done. I watched leaked footage of them online didn't I? Looked damn done to me, and plus they had an extra ton of time to wrap it up.

Like you guys said if they charge for these two maps, it's a total money hat move.

Look again.

Those are only a small portion of the skins. Most are listed by weapon, not set.

Look two posts up. ;)

That or they open up on the 20th. Which is what I'm thinking.

Perhaps, I asked on twitter, but I doubt I will get a response, they probably aren't happy people have the game already.

I like how people are complaining about useless (and unlockable) weapon skins when two ON DISC maps are going to be DLC.

A few...more like A LOT!

We don't know for certain they are on the disk, I'm just betting they are.

At the moment both the assumptions that they are indeed on the disk and will be paid DLC down the line are merely that, assumptions.

Not saying it won't happen, just not going to pull my pitchfork out yet. Should I be asked to pay for those two maps, two maps which we know are effectively complete and have been for a substantial amount of time then I'll be the first to join in with the torch burning and mass complaints.

And I disagree with someone else's comment, I don't think 10 maps is enough for the launch of a game like Gears, especially when one is a remake and they've had three years to work on it. I'd say 12-14 is the sweet spot. As much as I shit on COD they get a wealth of maps into the game for launch because they know it's the content customers really care for, and Epic should treat us no differently.

Quality over quantity.

CoD games have some shitty ass maps. Shout outs to Nuketown.

Data inside the beta actually had a list of 20 maps. It's not bullshit either, the campaign level list in the data was spot-on. Map list also spoiled stuff like Sandbar, Gridlock etc... before they were officially shown. So something is up.

Don't disagree, but we don't really know how good these ten Gears maps are. Chances are that we're going to find more maps we really enjoy playing repeatedly in a batch of 16-18 than a collection of 10. And your post implies Gears never has shitty or uninspired maps. Which it has done in the past(Overgrown, Mausoleum, River, Blood Drive, in fact many Gears 2 maps) and I'd wager will do in the future. It's simple probability.

I quite enjoyed the Beta maps, especially Thrashball and Old Town but I've not really played them enough to judge whether they're classics on the same level as Gridlock, Raven Down, Canals and War Machine.

Gears 2 maps for me didn't click in a lot of ways. Grindyard I think is the one with just a boom shot in the middle up some ramp and overlooks the whole map right? It's either your team gets there first and you win, or you don't, and you lose. End of.

My love for Gears of War 1 maps is through the roof though. The one map I hated in Gears 1(and 2) was War Machine, but I know others enjoyed it. For me War Machine was a dildos map simply because EPIC could never nail the hopping up a ledge animation and I would constantly find myself getting stuck on damn sandbags.

The bigger your map pool is the less time spent refining certain maps, and that's how shit like Nuketowns happen. Smaller list, more time to polish everything, and therefore less turds should occur. That's my 2 pennies on big vs small when it comes to launch maps.

As for there was 20 on the beta leak... and only 10 making to launch I say wtf. -_-

Edit: Oh and Old Town will survive the test of time. Instant classic. New Tball and new Trenches could be too, but beta versions had serious issues with spawns which are fixed now, so we'll see.

CoD4 had 16 maps and 15 of them (fuck Wetwork) were immaculate. It can be done.

I agree on some levels, I think many Gears 2 maps, Grindyard being a great example were compromised to try and work with Horde as well as Competitive play. Grindyard was actually a decent Horde map, but like you say feel flat on its arse during multiplayer. I also have to try and separate my overt dislike for Gears 2s mechanics and the individual maps themselves, which I can do, for example I think Security is by far the best map in the game and would be very enjoyable with improved mechanics.

I empathise with your hopping up ledges complaint, and it was very much an issue, especially when trying to make a snatch and run play for the Sniper down at the bottom. This also prevented me from truly loving Rooftops.

Oh and can I make a special shout out to DAY ONE as the worst map in the entire franchise? I'll never ever understand what the hell was going through the designer's mind with that one. Fucking one way catwalks with dead ends and power weapons. I'd rather stick my dick in a bee's nest than play that atrocity of a map.

As for Nuke Town, I don't think that was the product of over implementation and thin resources in the map making department, I just think they tried to create a tight, small, arena style map and in many ways succeeded. I actually didn't dislike Nuke Town and treated it as it was, a fast often free for all melee. It's pretty intense during Search and Destroy too.

Of the 20 maps in the beta list, 4 were Gears 2 maps. I'd actually like to give them another go with Gears 3's increased movement speed, fixed wall tags and dedicated servers.

I hate almost all Gears 2 maps that were on a disc, except maybe for Security and Ruins(but hate nade tagging on that one).I think that outside of lag and slow gameplay maps were another big problem in this game.
I've got my wings only because maps from DLC were so much better,I really like almost all dark corners and snowblind maps.
Gears 1 maps and Gears 3 beta maps are on another level,I love almost all of them.

CoD4 was hot sex. I hated Showdown though.

Just a wait and see for now with what Gears 3 pans out in the map department. If we get a 3 for 15 bucks approach it'll make me cringe. :(

Maybe. Still making up my mind...

Why pass up a chance to see Cliff in person? Arm wrestle him for GAF!

Because getting into the city is a bitch. Plus, I don't necessarily want to wait in line for 4 HOURS and then have to travel back home. It could be fun, but it could suck.

I just want to get the game, go home and play the fuck out of it.

Go with a buddy or two. :)

No buddies IRL want to go. They just want the game and want to play it ASAP. They don't care about going to the launch event.

I DO want to go, but not alone. Plus, unless I can get some quality time with Epic dudes, I don't want to go. I don't feel like standing around, being uncomfortable and waiting for hours on end. Fuck that.

Plus, I have the game (and my Retro) all paid for and ready to go here, where I live.

Just make sure not to take your girlfriend.

Don't have to worry about that :/

She was gonna go with me if I went, surprisingly

I would go with you but I'm too afraid that our personalities would mesh into some sort of weird human oreo hybrid.

actually I live no where near the east coast

You need to make better friends. :P

I gotcha though. I think it'd be cool if I could get a handshake or w/e. It's not like I'd get a chance to do that often, where as Gears 3 you'll be playing for years.

Cliff should guarantee you a handshake for making the OT. :)

I probably would go if I didn't already completely pay off Gears 3 at Amazon and if I had a buddy or two to go with. But yeah, standing in line for hours breaks your spirit. I've done that twice already.

honest question, is it worth getting a 360 just for the gears of war games?

Depends.

Are you a fan of shooters?

This game is quite different than FPS' like Call of Duty. Not to scare you off, but Gears of War games are a pretty brutal online experience, and competition is fierce. The skill gap is shown pretty quickly if you aren't good, that a good player will consistently destroy you and run circles around you.

Get good at Gears of War and you'll be automatically good at every other shooter you play after. However, if you are good at other shooters, and then come into Gears of War, your skills won't transition much or give you an edge. Gears will make a man out of you.

Gears 3 will be a super extensive package though. Even if you find the competitive online isn't for you, then you'll have the various co-op things to enjoy. Plus, you'll have a Xbox 360 so you'll have more games you can possibly add to your library.

I wouldn't recommend buying a console solely off 1 game, especially one as unique as Gears of War, so take a look to see if there are other things on the platform you are interested in to possibly try in the future from its library of games.

Hope that helps you come to a decision. Personally, I'd go for it if I had the money laying around, but I'm not you. ;)

If you're gonna pay for XBL, I'd say yes.
Well if he's getting the previous Gears games, you shouldn't bank on the Multiplayer as being a selling point for everyone.

I would say if you really enjoy tactical 3rd person gameplay done the best in the genre, then pull the trigger. Although I don't really recommend buying any console for a single franchise or game, even though that's what I did (PGR).

EDIT: Child's Play skin huh? As in the charity? Sounds interesting, I want to hear more.
