Gears of War 3 Pushed Back to Fall 2011

Motherfucker.

(1) Due to the additional 6 months, multiplayer better be unbroken and polished as hell.
(2) Epic, this gives you time to run a BETA to help you achieve (1). Pay attention.

I could certainly see a beta in about the same time of the Reach beta next year. The game I bet is really far along at this point. I've seen Rod F. tweeting about press coming in all the time and showing off again next week. More time the better on that I suppose.

Good games are good games, exclusive or not. So who cares?

This is true there will be lots of core games out early next year for it, but they cannot rest their hands on that. With that said with UC3 Sony could have up to 9 first party major titles and that wouldn't look so hot with just 1 or 2. Kinect alone will not fill that gap.

Yeah that makes most sense to me, and explains the lack of exclusive/first party offerings currently
The lack of first party offerings is mostly because all of their exclusive partners (sans epic and Turn 10) released games in 2010.

Lionhead, Bungie, Ruffian, 3D Realms, Bioware, and Rare will all have released games in 2010, and the former Ensemble and MFS guys are making PC games.

All if these studios will need time to reload, I wouldn't read more into it than that. MS not courting 3rd parties (except for Crytek) for exclusive games is far more concerning.

There's no way any of those games come out before May.
They're slated for Q1, Bulletstorm has even a specific date and its demos seemed polished (albeit dull). Dunno about the other two.

They clearly really are treating Kinect like a new console launch and siphoning off resources to develop for it, but Sony having more first party titles for the PS3 than MS has for the 360 hasn't been breaking news since like 2007.
Still, it's quite hillarious the for the second half of this year Sony has only GT5 and Move titles.

But Microsoft definitely seems to give the vibe like publishing games is by far the worst thing about video game business and they do it only because they have to. :/

Do you think they are just being arrogant because they are so far ahead in the NA markets that they do not need to push? Or are the other studios souring on their policies?

Bungie is no longer exclusive and it seems like Bioware is switching to console multiplatform as well.

Don't need to push what? Arrogant how?

Just because they're devoting like two quarters (potentially) to Kinect, doesn't mean they're giving up on making an effort in NA. They just aren't catering directly to the same userbase. I can't imagine anything more "Push" than what they've been doing for and with Kinect.

They also have The Sly Collection, DC Universe online, and from 3rd parties Mortal Kombat HD Trilogy and Prince of Persia HD trilogy (allegedly).

But there always been enough 3th party exclusives to compensate it. Now, I don't remember any non-kinect 360 exclusive for the next 365 days, except some XBLA titles.

You're the one making the non-Kinect distinction. I don't think MS ever plans to again.

How dare you ignore GUN LOCO!

I wouldn't consider ports from last generation notable exclusive releases. Still, DC Universe online as an MMO (right?) is an interesting proposition to console gamers.

X-Com? MS'd better more up their sleeves as that's still very slim lineup.

This is pretty disappointing news. I used to prefer my 360 to my ps3 by a large margin, but as of now they have pretty much evened out. Microsoft needs to start bringing the exclusives again.

Bulletstorm has the same date as Killzone 3 atm, that'll probably change.

Does the video game industry have a different quarter system than I'm used to? Technically the current fiscal year, Q1, started today in the US, being October 1st.

I wonder if this means another batch of Halo maps will get pushed to 2012 just like Halo 3's Mythic maps were pushed back a full year (because of Gears 2 being Microsoft's big Fall title) despite having been completed in the summer of 2008.

Fuckin' Microsoft.
Fuck that shit

X-Com as well but who knows how that will fare in the end. To pay for third party exclusives anymore is simply going to be tough and likely not much worth it to either party. The big ones from here on out will be multi. I do see more 3rd party exclusive game content tie-ins coming though.

I thought the dates between the two were off by a week or two with Bulletstorm coming right after.

Fiscal year depend on companies. Most companies have April-March FY, MS has July-June, Take-2 has some weird reporting periods.

There are plenty of third party games I'll be playing on my 360, but still, this is a bummer. Was really looking forward to this game.

On the plus side, the first half of the year is packed. And Gears always feels like a fall/winter title to me.

I was questioning his last statement.

This certainly raises the question as to what MS plans on releasing the first 6 months of 2011. I know it's a well-established meme that "MS has nothing for next year", but they literally have nothing exclusive announced thus far that caters to the West for Q1-Q2.

Perhaps we'll see some big Western exclusives revealed in the coming months a la TGS that will take everyone by surprise?

Edit: To the guy above, Crysis2, Portal 2, Bulletstorm, Deus Ex 3, Dead Space 2, etc.

Forget Q1 and Q2 of 2011.

If they move GoW3 to Q3 Q4 of 2011, it might mean Q3 and Q4 is completely fuckin' barren.

What the hell is going on in the gaming division of Microsoft lately?

MS has the shortest window for announce-to-release of any other publisher. Gaf is being gaf.

Nop, this is Nintendo.

Well, I'm not counting Move exclusives, either. And, still, there are like 10 PS3 exclusives in Q1-Q2 2011.

I see no problem with the delay. People that have 360's will have no shortage of games to play in the first half of 2011. Dead Space 2, Portal 2, Bulletstorm, Homefront, Ghost Recon, Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2 and Red Faction will be plenty enough.

Yep I just realised this, if GoW3 is pushed back to Q4, its more likely that Microsoft won't have as many surprise exclusives announced for Q4 2011. Man what the fuck happened to 360 exclusives, there have been much more Sony exclusives since the beginning of 2009.

BenjaminBirdie said:
A shift in focus still isn't arrogance or lack of effort.

OK, with that being said, does anyone know what is going on with regards to getting contracts done with these studios?

But they're not exclusives. Wont someone please think of the children?

That was my question, LOL. Is it arrogance? is it bad luck? is it poor business practice? I was just probing for insight on that. Those are valid questions...

If you played the same GoW2 I played, then I'm not sure how you wouldn't be happy about a delay. Epic needed a HUGE delay on GoW2 and now they got a lot of rethinking and starting-from-scratch to do.

If you honestly believe they're going to throw everything away and start over, then you are crazy.

As Rod Ferguson said to Eurogamer:

"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.

Worst (and most stupid) business decision ever made in the history of gaming.

As far game sales it is probably the wisest decision in the end. What else would they put in the holiday window without it? As far as console sales who knows.

I'm ok with this. Spring is already too packed, and fucking Halo Reach turned out to be godly.

This increases my chances of purchasing the following titles in their respective order:
Bulletstorm
Killzone 3
Crysis 2

I hate to go all troll up in this, but I can't even think of a single 360 exclusive I am remotely interested in the next 12 months, other than Bulletstorm.
