Gears of War 3 Pushed Back to Fall 2011

As long as people have to invest money on something that it's quality it's questionable as to how it will work, how the games will play or just aren't interested in the controller free gaming they have the right to hate...having a new way to play things like Kinect is nice and all but abandoning your main audience is not the best or the smarter thing for MS to do.

Anyway as I said earlier we should wait for X10 and see if 360 will turn into a Kinect/Halo/Gears box or MS actually has a line-up for the next year.
X10 already happened earlier this year, they announced Perfect Dark XBLA there I think.

And every fall they're mostly right.

How many (retail) games has MS announced and released inside the same calendar year in the past? Obviously Kinect's games are examples, but that's a non-normal scenario. Typically we know the shape of MS's line-up for a given year by the end of the previous year.

(OTOH, the 2011 lineup is so paltry looking right now that one has to think next year they will have games to announce and release within that same year or they are COMPLETELY taking the piss. But in the past that's not usually been the case.)

So, for the Xbox haters, MS is going from releasing exclusives you're not interested in . . . to NOT releasing exclusives you're not interested in. That almost sounds like progress, right?

X11 soon?
That's what I was thinking, when all of this noise about lack of any real MicroSauce titles coming next year.

I see this Gears delay as only a good thing. Give Epic all the time they need to make this their ultimate swan song. From a story standpoint, Gears 3 is shaping up to be the last and final Gears. Let them make it a great one!

How so? There is still a ton of non exclusive games coming out.

Well, I said in Microsoft's portfolio. I don't think there will be any problems with a lack of Xbox 360 games in general. By the way, when is XCOM supposed to come out?

While MS provides me with three of my favorite series(Halo, Gears, and Crackdown) the lack of anything else that isn't for Kinect really bothers me. If they didn't close half their studios a while back maybe we could get more than 2 or 3 games a year.

2008 had Gears 2 announced in 2008. 2009 had Forza 3 and L4D2. These just from the top of my head, sure there are plenty more.

More like Gears3 vs. Resistance 3, sounds much more likely....

I've seen the leaked screenshots of Resistance 3, and while I'm a fan of Insomniac's games, I honestly don't think their engine will do much to shake the Gears 3 version of UE3. ND Engine 3.0, on the other hand...

I might be crazy for saying this but I think Uncharted 3 won't hit until 2012. If PSP2 is real, then having an Uncharted spin off ready for launch would be extremely smart and more important than having Uncharted 3 on PS3. Plus ND still owes us Jak 4.

This is something Cornbread alluded to as well, and I agree; in fact, in another thread I said that it wouldn't surprise me to see Uncharted 3 hit shelves in 2012. At this point, it's the biggest franchise Sony has on the PS3 that doesn't begin with "Gran Turismo".

Sony's 2011 is packed with what should be quality games, and with Uncharted having both the critical and commercial success behind it, I wouldn't be surprised if they let ND work at Uncharted 3 a bit longer. However, neither Resistance or inFamous have the following that Uncharted has, and should Uncharted 3 be in shape for release in Oct~Dec 2011, you can believe that Sony will push for a release within that window.

Needless to say, this is all speculation. Time will tell.

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise and, if we ignore the early X06 teaser, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.

I actually support this since I feel the Gears franchise could use the extra time to really evolve and take more risks.

I'm just hoping that Epic takes their franchise back into their own hands after this so they can release their games on their own schedule instead of Microsoft's schedule.

UPDATE: Epic Games has just sent over this statement from executive producer Rod Fergusson on the delay:

"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.

Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come."

Speaking of which, a Left 4 Dead 3 announcement for fall 2011 doesn't seem too far fetched does it?

For those that asked, UT99 was delayed for business reasons and the resulting polish time made it fantastic. That's how I feel on the topic

"Business reasons" being "So we could directly compete with Q3A". :lol

Q3A being the better game by a country mile, but that's neither here nor there.

OK then X11. :P

I'm curious to see what they will show next year..maybe Perfect Dark 2, Kameo 2 & PGR5?
Not gonna happen..:(

As in to a publisher who will release Gears games whenever Epic wants them out instead of to a time schedule that suits the publisher best.

Q1/Q2 are packed with great Multi platform games. Gives Gears the holiday sales and time to polish. Good for epic and gamers.

If the "Microsoft buys Linden Labs" rumor comes true, then I guess we have another possible 360 exclusive title next year.

I believe elements of the Kameo team moved on to work on Kinect Sports. Perfect Dark Core was cancelled late 2008 or early 2009 but they might've started a new PD project. PGR5... who would develop?

That's it I'm putting up the Shiggy signal to see if he has any news on Rare.

What about potentially good Kinect and Move games? I know that's considered an oxymoron around here, but let's not be that silly for once.

Your avatar might be the saddest thing I've seen today. I hope you don't make that little girl play Kinect.

I think Banjo isn't fair to include :P

A Rare game next year is a distinct possibility, but whether it'd be 'core interest' or not I don't know. I could see a new Forza or PGR (aka a Turn10 game) being announced and released next year. They won't have Valve to fall back on though. I doubt 343 will have anything ready, since I'm guessing that's partially why Gears was delayed.

Sony also have Motorstorm: Apocalypse.

Disgaea, Resistance 3, Ninokuni, The Last Guardian and Twisted Metal have all had 2011 dates attached to them.

Also MLB 11... Which is most likely to be released at March.

Yet you include Sorcery. I think it's perfectly fine to list the TGS Kinect games, since they seem to have gotten a lot more attention from the hardcore crowd than the rest. You can't just conveniently ignore 5 exclusives because they don't use a control method you like.

And if we ignore all previous media Alan Wake was released less than a year after its E3 09 "announcement". I'm not sure we can include L4D2 either as it came out less than a year after the first game so of course we wouldn't have known about it a year ahead. And going forward it looks like Valve's games will be on PS3 too so it's not like there's going to be a surprise announcement of L4D3 next year to bolster the 360's exclusive catalogue.

Going back to the statement that started this, "Microsoft having the shortest time between announcement and release", it isn't really true. Like most publishers, it's a mixture although generally shorter than Sony. Aside from Kinect games what has Microsoft brought/will bring out out for the 360 in 2010 that wasn't known before the start if the year?

They make their own decisions, I'm sure things like that are taken into consideration. By the way, we don't know who initiated this delay, why are you assuming it was Microsoft and not Epic who wanted a better spot? Could it be that it was, oh I don't know, a mutually beneficial move?

"Heroes on the Move"

the above are the games I'd get. Seriously MS has no titles? wow. Is Xcom exclusive or something?

The Kinect games form TGS are lame on rails games, Sorcery is not on rails. Also a lot of the Kinect games at TGS are small XBLA games, but I admit I forgot to mention Steel Battalion.

Yeah, I've never really seen a "list warz" post that actually influenced by personal preference.

:lol

Usually the whole point is to just cram as much stuff as humanly possible.

Sure you can, especially when that control method sucks and the technology behind it is fundamentally incompatible with a satisfying "hardcore" experience. Also, we know nothing about the way these games play, just that they have a more "mature" veneer. So, I think it right to assume that it will be just about the same bullshit we've seen from other Kinect games with ramped up difficulty and some blood splatter here and there.

Well, with Gears of War 1 Epic wanted to follow a free DLC plan, but Microsoft put a stop to that.

With Gears of War 2 Epic stated that there was no PC version due to publishing reasons.

And now, with Gears of War 3, the game is being delayed for self admitted business reasons despite them insisting that the game would have been done and great by April.

So, I'm going to say that Microsoft is at least jerking them around a little bit with this series.

Do they mind? Well, they still have Microsoft as a publisher for Gears, but they have notably started to publish a different game with another publisher.

Jax said:

MS is actually publishing more titles this fall than they have in a long time IIRC, they're just not ones anyone is interested in.

You've been to the future? Awesome! How did 2011 play out for MS?

:lol at people thinking I am a biased prick, if I was biased I would not list Kingdom Under Fire 2 and XCOM as they are also on PC, but I wanted to list them as they are not on PS3.
