Ghost In The Shell (2017) Trailer

This reminds me I need to actually watch the original movie. I have been downloading the movie since 2005, but never watched it :/

The uppercut part still seems a tiny bit weird to me but I honestly can't find a reason to hate on this movie at the moment. I'm a bit more lax than others when it comes to adaptions and their changes, so even if this movie doesn't try to totally emulate the anime as long as it's made well I'm sure I will enjoy it

This looks really nice visually. Im not sold on Scarlet though. Noomi Rapace or any other actress who can be effortlessly badass would have been better.

Looks better than expected but I wouldn't say I'm really wowed beyond the aesthetics.

As a massive fan of GitS, I'm there day one regardless.

It's hard to have an opinion on it, it's not greatly edited trailer. Visually it's not bad, but it also lacks edge. Looks too clean and sanitized, maybe?

And Scarlett looks to be really wrong in the role, and it has nothing to do with her ethnicity.

Looks really good.

Some scenes are a bit too carbon copy though. Isn't this it's own story and not a remake?

Not my pick for the major either but at least with Scarlett the movie has some pull.

Every time a Hollywood exec says that about a remake, it turns out to be bullshit. Every time, lol.

Also, here's the live action shelling sequence from the Tokyo event, which was performed by a live orchestra.

This is great though. They're smart to at least reuse that piece of music.

When adapting/remaking a movie with such a strong visual identity, it would behoove the people in charge to also reuse their framing/composition style. The shelling sequence there is good because it mirrors the original so much. The other ones in the trailer not so much. That scene with Motoko jumping off a wall looks like a third-rate Matrix ripoff, got slowmo and everything.

I'll echo everyone who thinks the jumpsuit looks out of place. Yikes.

And can we please stop putting wigs on ScarJo? Please.

Man, this was a painful watch for me. I've seen plenty of my favorite films being remade already but this time for some reason, I was cringing so hard watching this trailer.

There are some beautiful shots but I don't think the esthetic really translates all that well to live-action. And the movie is going to be about the Major finding out about her past? Who gives a shit? Her origin story in Arise is pretty cool but it's a fairly minor part of the GitS universe, there are so many more interesting ways to approach her character...

Oh well, at least it looks better than Dragonball Evolution but I'm bummed.

Looks good but I like I said in the other thread, ScarJo (and others) looks miscast in this.

Yup, to many emotions on her face. Shen can't quite look stoic it seems...besides motoko should look like a gimnast or something and she doesn't to either...

Movie seems ok otherwise

Yeah sorry but no. Reminds me way too much of Avatar: The last Airbender. You simply cannot recreate the powerful images of an anime/manga in RL movies. It feels so cringeworthy. Maybe it will be a good movie and everyone who hasn't seen the anime will like it but it's definitly not for me so far.

Looks quite good? I think it is time for me to get into Ghost in the Shell. Any recommendations of where to start and what to skip?

Pretty simple: the first movie, then the first season of Stand Alone Complex.
I love the second film but it's an acquired taste.
Just keep in mind that there is very little action in GitS and it's very slow. It's more about mood and the exploration of various sci-fi concepts.

Googled to confirm Tricky (haven't really been following production), and found this pic from last day of shooting. Mamoru Oshii and Kenji Kawai (og Gits composer) in there. This gives me hope even if they weren't directly involved.

I looked at the pic before reading your post and went "Wait, is that Tricky?". Is he doing any music for it?

Even the cynic in me can't deny this looks cool. Yeah there are bits and pieces that I'm kind of iffy about, but I would say overall, the art direction continues to be excellent and really get the tone right. I was afraid it'd go for the typical sanitized Hollywood future, but it seems to have that somewhat grungy, Hong Kong x Tokyo aesthetic that the first movie went for and it's translated over well.

Still think I'd prefer someone other than ScarJo, and Batou's actor's head is still so small, but I like it

Train wreck waiting to happen... Do not want.

The only positive that I saw was at least the world looks good. But the casting dear god.

BBW = Big Black Widow

She looks like a teletubby in that suit.

lol

She's not plump, obviously, but I don't think she has the body shape or height to pull off that sort of bodysuit look.

Her real problem is that soft-spoken kind-of voice she does here, like everywhere else. Doesn't fit at all.

Lot of potential for a very cool and certainly different movie there. Could also be a real slog.

It's also just so weird there's no Asian people in this movie.

Some of the city shots look pretty cool but it's really missing that grit and decay that drew me to the original movie's setting. Honestly... those huge holograms in the background look more awkward and silly than anything the more I look at them too.

The straight-up shot-for-shot recreations of scenes from the original movie are kinda pointless when it seems like they're just taking properties from the entire series. I dunno. I mean I'll give this a chance because it seems like the creators of this are just as big of fans of the original movie as i am but it also seems like they're also.... kinda missing the mark with what they're trying to go for from what I'm seeing here.

I hope they manage to 'dirty' up the visuals and city a bit. Needs more of that Blade Runner feel. Optimistic though.

I am a huge Ghost in The Shell fan and this looks amazing. It really does and the shelling sequence, the really payed homage to the anime.

Day one for me. I am really hyped.

The 95 movie + Standalone Complex/2nd Gig. The people saying to watch Innocence just like it because it looks really really nice

Well, also the storyline is connected to the manga.

I don't really get that complain. She's a human brain inside a robot body, isn't she?
I think that level of emotion was often shown for her in SAC.
