That may very well be the most tone deaf pick they could have ever made. What would ever move somebody to pick Aoki for the task? The Japanese surname? The cool with the kidz vibe?

also SAC owes far more to oshii than shirou masamune, who had precisely as much to do with that show as he did the movies (aka, nothing really)

LTTP but absolutely this. The look of GITS owes at more to Oshii than it does to Shirow at this point. One has been active in developing the property, the other has just been drawing weird bad porn for close to 20 years now.

Personally I expect this to be complete garbage.
