Ghostbusters Trailer 2

For those who have their suspicions about the bad apple sexists or sexist internet muckraking being the root of a lot of the hate, my prediction is the movie is going to be absolutely huge. So those jerks are gonna feel bad soon.

Every trailer drop is like a gigantic event. Even if 50% of the tickets are hate-watches it's gotta be what, $2B domestic? :p

Total Bisquit has a comment on Screen Junkies video, and again he takes the "sexism is one of the factors" and read as "everyone who complains is sexist" =P

And here is the dude in the video's reply to his post

lol TB giving other people shit for talking about Ghostbusters when he himself can't resist criticizing it.

Totalbiscuit has the worst reactions to things for a smart person.

The Screen Junkies video was one of the most balanced things I've seen on the subject. You have to have buried your head in the sand pretty deeply to have somehow missed criticisms of the Ghostbusters remake that are clearly sexist.

Like Donald Trump's take on the matter.

THEY'RE REMAKING GHOSTBUSTERS WITH ONLY WOMEN. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Clearly the voice of someone who would feel exactly the same way if the movie had men playing the team.

To argue that sexism plays no part in making the trailer the most hated trailer, when it's clearly getting some hate for casting women as the leads, it's transparent nonsense.

Again, Total Biscuit doesn't want to have to stop to check if he's being sexist, or to ever have to hear about sexism. It might make him feel bad or stop him enjoying something he's into. Because he's a privileged white guy who can't get his head around the fact that life gave him more oppurtunities since he mistakenly thinks that such a thing invalidates everything he's ever achieved for himself.

OMG ITS A MOVIE ABOUT PEOPLE PEW PEWING GHOSTS.

Over 2,000 posts mainly complaining about a second trailer for a movie you all know you're going to see.

When your criticism literally boils down to accusing someone who doesn't like the trailer of saying that everyone who doesn't like the trailer is sexist... yes

Oh yeah, it's making the video about it that's the problem. A person who is known for making videos about their opinions on an almost daily basis made a video about their opinion. That changes everything.

I actually like the trailers.

Doesn't mean I'll like the movie though. I've seen enough trailers for comedies to know they're the hardest ones to get a read on the quality of the final product from watching.

Choosing not to see a movie because the trailer doesn't grab you is totally fine. Thinking that you can tell if the movie is good or not from the trailer is stooopid. The original Ghostbuster's trailer has a lot of the same faults as this one:

Over emphasis of physical comedy.
Major plot points given away.
Over emphasis of innuendo.

Now this trailer and the original trailer sharing faults doesn't in any way shape or form suggest this remake will be good... but again at the very least maybe wait and see what kind of a reaction the finished product gets before declaring this one is garbage or making a proclamation about how you'll never go see it.

And I'd prefer if this trailer didn't give away major plot points. But that it does, doesn't remotely reflect on the quality of the final movie no?

Are you a psychologist? because I'm amazed you're getting all that from his comment.

Basicaly this.

Also ... I saw people saying this "is so bad it looks like a Saturday Night Live thing"

...did this person knows that Ghostbusters was basicaly "a saturday night live thing" ?

Are you a psychologist? because I'm amazed you're getting all that from his comment.

It's a pattern of behaviour I've seen in him going back to his reactions to the gamergate bullshit. He gets very emotional and over reacts. This is just exhibit G or whatever for me.

In a video they suggest that part of why this trailer gets hated the most is because of sexism. In the same video they also say they don't think sexism is the biggest factor.

Do you think if TB had waited to process all of their points before posting he'd have posted what he did? Why did he strongly criticize them for mentioning sexism as part of the problem? Why was he so upset that they mentioned the sexist criticism that the movie has unquestionably faced?

The way I see it, he's upset about it either because he's sexist (which I don't believe) or to be kinder (and what I believe to be more likely) he doesn't want to be challenged with thoughts of whether or not his feelings about something might be sexist.

Can you think of any other reason for his overly emotional reaction to a very tame and factually accurate comment?

He's literally upset at them for mentioning actual sexism that's actually happening. So yeah... he clearly didn't want to have to hear or think about sexism when watching a video about the Ghostbusters remake.

What's your take on the overly emotional reaction against Jame's tame video?

The thing is, I think the only way we might see this whole thing lift considerably(not disappear) if the movie is great. If Feig drops the ball and the movie is meh, I can totally see critics or people being honest about that(after watching the movie, of course), being targeted by those saying, "Oh, you just always had it out for the movie and went in expecting to hate it!!".

I agree with James that you should be able to vote with your wallet and, if a movie or such doesn't interest you, you reserve that right to not see it. Unlike him, I WILL see the Ghostbusters reboot, but I basically feel the same as he does with Ghostbusters, but with the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Never shelled out the money to see them. Caught the first one on a movie channel, thought it was pure and utter shit and THAT was enough for me to say I would NEVER go to the movies and support that franchise.... EVER! For video games, I feel the same regarding Ubisoft and EA, i don't support those companies and never will(too much to get into, but certain things they've done has turned me off from them COMPLETELY). That won't change the fact that there will be a lot of people that DO like the Transformers movies or Ubisoft and EA games, but for me, I'm sticking to me beliefs.

And regarding my opinion on this Ghostbusters, the first two trailers left a sour taste in my mouth. I still don't care for the type of comedy(it's really different than the original, and just the more goofy, as Screen Junkies said, "Blart-ish", doesn't appeal to me). This last trailer, however, was more enjoyable. Nobody wants a bad movie, and if this is a great movie(and one to act as a foundation to a new Ghostbusters cinematic universe, which where everyone else is rolling their eyes, I was actually gleeful at the thought), kick some ghostly ass!

People just wanted to see more Bill Murray covered in lube.

You know... witty jokes.

Dan Akroyd dreaming about getting BJ'ed by a ghost.

Not just some cheap, random sex jokes.

Personally how I read it is that this is just a comment he's been wanting to make about the topic on a whole and that was just the video he happened to make it under, could I be wrong? certainly but I just got a general straw that breaks the camel back kinda thing from it. In any even I believe his point about band wagoning is a point as you can see the same thing happen with that COD trailer where it pretty much to became a parody of itself and them the band wagoning in likes for that Battlefield trailer released shortly after.

Edit: I agree with voting with your wallet too, for instance many years ago after the whole Horse Armour debacle with Oblivion I made a vow to never by DLC contents unless I am buying a game with them packed in already and you know what to this day I have not broken that vow, obviously my boycott didn't change the course of gaming history but I can rest assure I am not contributing to something I dislike.

What's your take on the overly emotional reaction against Jame's tame video?

let me give you the TL:DR of my previous post about it.

People are confusing 'My panties are a bunch because this movie wasn't made for me' with 'My panties are a bunch because this movie was made for women'.

People who are genuinely sexist love pretending that they aren't. Part of why they do this, is to get well meaning people to lash out at people that aren't sexist at all, fostering sympathy for anyone criticizing the thing and helping feed into the notion that it's those nasty feminists yelling at clouds that is the problem, not the thing in question.

James didn't deserve to get caught in that crossfire. He is blameless in this.

However his video was really dumb... and I would still rip it to shreds even if the remake starred only men. Because his reasons for not liking it are selfish and petty and entitled.

They aren't sexist though!

That's cool and all and I disagree wholeheartedly that his video and reasoning are dumb.
But I was asking about the negative reactions toward his video.

Then *at the very best* he's as bad as all the people that lashed out at James Rolfe because they misidentified him as being part of the problem. Again... a reasoned person wouldn't criticize a video that isn't guilty of the pre written blog post no? He specifically criticizes the Screen Junkies guys for talking about sexism and accuses them of only doing it to generate views.

How can you talk about this trailer and NOT mention the sexism and record breaking dislikes?

So, if you want to actually discuss the topic of this thread, rock out. If you want to participate in the discussion in a meaningful manner, by all means.

But useless driveby posts? You're on notice now. And less sniping at each other, it's beneath you.

Yeah. And I answered that. Let me quote my post and bold the relevant bit for you. And I think his reasons are selfish, petty and entitled. Not idiotic.

So let me get this straight. You think someones opinion on a summer movie are selfish? Petty? Entitled? On a movie. A piece of entertainment. Jesus, this is madness.

Yeah. Thinking a movie should cater to you, and vocally refusing to watch it because it doesn't...

what words would you use to describe such a thing?

Yeah. And I answered that. Let me quote my post and bold the relevant bit for you. And I think his reasons are selfish, petty and entitled. Not idiotic.

"People who are genuinely sexist love pretending that they aren't. I read this like 10 times and still don't understand how it ties to what I was asking.
So the sexist people made other non-sexist people bash Jame's video? Or people bashing Jame's videos are closet sexist? I mean, some of them did attack his wife too so I guess that could be true as well.

Yeah. Thinking a movie should cater to you, and vocally refusing to watch it because it doesn't...

what words would you use to describe such a thing?

Really? So if people aren't happy with John Conner in the latest Terminator being the villain then are they petty and entitled too?

Yeah. Thinking a movie should cater to you, and vocally refusing to watch it because it doesn't...

what words would you use to describe such a thing?

There are people that don't watch sports comedies because they aren't made for everyone. There are people that don't watch transformers because it caters people that want dumber entertainment. This is a guy known for his ghostbusters movie, he makes a video saying "ah, I don't feel like watching it" and that's the entire story. Yes we get it, sexists are out there. But most people are not falling under that boat and just don't like or want to see a movie. That doesn't take away from the people who are not seeing it for sexist reasons, but seriously it's an entertainment product designed to make money. You choose with your money what you want to see and what you don't, and regardless the reason you aren't wrong even if the reason were fucked up. That's the free market for you, it's literally choice.

Yeah. Thinking a movie should cater to you, and vocally refusing to watch it because it doesn't...

Whats the point of calling it Ghostbusters then? Oh and speaking of Terminator Genisys the worst thing about that movie was the complete bastardization of the original characters. Especially Reese.

Does anyone have a link to the thread where it was rumored that it would be an all female cast? I found the one that announced the cast, with a lot of complaint about McCarthy being in it and asking who the other two actresses were, but I just want to read what people said or thought when it was announced that it would be an all female cast. Or when a reboot was announced. Basically, I just wonder at what point did this movie get poisoned. Was it at birth, when announced as a remake? Or the all female cast? Or when the casting was announced? Or when they started shooting and we saw some on location photos? By the time we got that first trailer, it seemed people were gunning for this movie to tank.

I hope this movie turns out well and performs well enough. I look forward to it.

I'd honestly rather read people insisting all the hate for the trailers was a sexist conspiracy than bad faith attempts like this to drag the original. At least the people who are claiming sexism have a leg to stand on. The character work in GB is flawless. It was one of those invincible "perfect chemistry" casts like Seinfeld. It's not a fucking Paul Blart movie.

*BECAUSE* sexist people often pretend that their issues with something have nothing to do with sexism, people who are upset about sexism will often times take aim against people that aren't sexist at all.

It's part of why many sexist people will pretend their issues with a given thing have nothing to do with sex. Not just to hide themselves, but because every time someone takes a swing at someone who isn't sexist, it helps make feminists look bad and helps fuel the notion that the issue isn't actually sexism, but overly aggressive feminists.

Or to put it plainly... a lot of sexist people are pretending to merely be Ghostbusters nerds like James and saying that is what justifies their hate. That makes people look at actual Ghostbusters nerds with suspicion. Some of them get too trigger happy and someone that you and I know to be a true Ghostbusters nerd is suddenly being called a sexist because he's exhibiting the same behaviours that many sexists were mimicking.

Crystal?

If you're not gonna answer my question then this is just a waste of time.

Whats the point of calling it Ghostbusters then?

Because it's a remake of Ghostbusters. And like, because they bust ghosts. And they're called the Ghostbusters.

Oh and speaking of Terminator Genisys the worst thing about that movie was the complete bastardization of the original characters. Especially Reese.

You know the best thing about that movie?

But I digress.

I loved every mainline Resident Evil game until RE6. Which has lots of fans but just isn't my kind of game. I don't want Vanquish style action, not because it's bad or anything. It's just not for me.

You will never hear me say 'Resident Evil 6 shouldn't even exist'... because I think that would be selfish and petty. There are plenty of other games for me to play. Why would I want a game people love to not exist or to be taken away from them? Because I got like eight games in a franchise that I loved, they have to make the ninth for me too? Maybe you feel that way, but I don't. If I don't like the Ghostbusters remake it won't matter.

I'll still have two movies, an animated TV series, a video game I love, and a bunch of LEGO. I'm good, whether this movie is for me or not. I love the thought of my niece wanting to be a Ghostbuster. Sure when she's older she'll hopefully learn that she can follow in the footsteps of men she sees in movies too... but she's five so that's kind of a bit beyond her.

"His reasons for not liking the concept behind this reboot are entirely his own opinions."

It works perfectly well.

It says absolutely nothing. Are you one of those people who think all opinions are created equally?

If you're not gonna answer my question then this is just a waste of time.

I've answered your questions. What part do you think I haven't answered? You wanted to know why I thought people were unfairly attacking James. I told you why I think it happens. Because those people are seeing behaviors in James that they have come to expect from sexist people and formed the wrong conclusion that James is sexist.

That's what I think.

Actually James never says in the video the new GB shouldn't exist but OK.

What? He gave perfectly fine opinions and reasons for wanting to skip this movie.

I would give the same reasons if they rebooted Back to the Future with Adam Sandler as Doc Brown and Jaden Smith as Marty McFly.

Say what you want about Rolfe but he doesn't deserve this.

It's fucking terrible to see people in this very forum minimizing attitudes like that, and instead clowning around and calling James sexist.

I was mostly lurking, but I wanted to comment on this. Is a guy that may be dying of cancer in his early 30s really considers privileged?

strike out the "may be" there. and I agree.

TB is completely right. Whilst some sexism is obviously a part, the overwhelming majority of people who disliked that trailer likely did it because they disliked the trailer. ie. they think the film looks bad.

I don't give a flying fuck who stars in the film. Male, Female, Child, Pensioner, even a cast of CGI anthropomorphic badgers. If the jokes were right, the tone was right, the intent was right then I would enjoy it. But I have watched all the trailers for this film, and I just think it looks outright shoddy and for me it shits upon what I love about the original, which is one of my favourite films of all time. I'm sorry, but that's just my opinion.

I don't find the tone amusing, I don't like the writing and characterisation shown so far and I dislike the effects. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to like here in order for my opinion to be accepted.
