Giant Bomb #9 | More Dan Meets The Eye

Can't watch the MGS video till i get out of work so quick question: does drew know that he can have his gun out and run at the same time? This really helps to make the ocelot battle less tedious.

I went in with lowered expectations, but I ended up enjoying watching Drew slowly discover different methods of dealing with Revolver Ocelot. I preferred this over Dan saying "do this, wait, wait, do this", and so on.

I look forward to the next episode.

Just running after Ocelot is not a very effective tactic though.

So those other three people on Mythbusters are leaving the show...I'm calling it now, we'll all be seeing Will and Norm on TV in two years.

He has the gun equipped the entire time.

Again, i haven't seen the video, but what i was referring to was having the gun out, ready to shoot, and running at the same time. It allows you to run and shoot at the same time.

the game doesn't really tell you about this move so most people end up having a harder time on ocelot than they would if they used this technique. It's similar to what happened to some folks (including myself) when they first played MGS3 and they didn't know that you needed to use the dpad to stalk people. Sure, you can finish the game without knowing that but it can help a ton if you do know it.

When was the last time chat worked for the morning show? I don't watch it that often, but I feel like I've been seeing on my Twitter feed a lot that the chat isn't working.

He doesn't know how to do that.

Well that would've been nice to know a couple of weeks ago. Though the fight wasn't really difficult not knowing that, just tedious.

I played the game the first time a few years ago and I don't think I knew you could do that until you mentioned it here. I remember that fight being a little annoying for me as well. Would have made it a lot easier. I can't remember how the game controlled, is there a reason someone might not realize you can move while aiming the gun?

Apparently you need to hold the crouch key while aiming to move. Not exactly intuitive.

so i know that there's plenty of nice people that this doesn't apply to

and this will seem out of nowhere for most of you

but i am sick of seeing a terrible post from someone being a hateful jerk and glancing to the left and seeing an avatar of one of the bomb duders

I'm good peoples.

I am on the right side of justice.

After the response towards others during the whole hiring process made me really sad. Anyone can be a giant bomb fan, but its always disappointing when its an asshole.

its like when you are really into a band, then you realize so are a lot of assholes. Makes me not want to go to their concert.

I wish i could go to PAX, and see how wonderful the people actually are.

*oh snap, sorry for the double post...

The MGS play through is cool. I played that game to completion once in like 2000 and vaguely remember it. So it's really fun to watch. I'm also surprised how good it looks.

I can understand Drew wrestling with the controls and the boss fight, but the frustrating thing to me was that at any point they could have gone up a floor to get a second ration in the holding cells, but never did it. This is the first thing I would have done after my first death.

Oh, and I didn't know C4 could be used against Ocelot. And I also did not know you could aim and run at the same time, despite beating the game multiple times.

edit: wait, that's not true. I knew about running and aiming. Silly me.

edit 2: oh wow, I did not know you could dodge Ocelot's bullets in first-person and also hit him multiple times.

Is it a common thing that people want game devs to work on "new" things? Patrick and Alex have talked about wanting something else other then a new Uncharted and today they mentioned that they would rather not see Sucker Punch do a new Infamous.

While for me I love those games/series and want more.

I found part 2 to be really entertaining. Sure, they were stuck on the boss fight for a while, but i still really enjoyed it. Drew's "I'm going to murder!" after coming so close was great.

I couldn't possibly care less about a new Uncharted, and I'd love to play what Naughty Dog is working on. I just won't be playing it since it's another Uncharted. Stopped caring about that series after the second (which I really liked and thought was well made), the third one already may as well have not existed. I'm absolutely in the camp that would rather the sequels fucking end.

Seems to crop up more for Sony series with the way people feel about Killzone, Uncharted and Infamous. Personally I'm pretty excited about the standalone First Light coming soon.

I guess it's just hard to see it in that way since I'm a fan of the series and don't mind having more. I just don't really see a point in wishing someone was making something different.

At some point I get sick of a franchise. While I love the Uncharted franchise, I'd much rather want Naughty Dog to do something else. Something new. Sequels are cool up to a point for me, but after a while I want a studio to move onto something else. Naughty Dog is such a fantastic studio, and look at what they did with Last of Us when they finally made a new franchise again. I'm tired of Nathan Drake and want them to move on.

In general? I have no problems with sequels, but it's always cool to get new characters, new worlds. If devs just kept making the same shit over and over again, I'm guessing we all would get pretty tired of it. There's only really so much you can do with an Uncharted game with Nathan Drake as the main guy, and I've seen it before. Still gonna play the game though, don't get me wrong here, but I would've preferred a new franchise.

You don't want gamers to grow tired of your series and you don't want these immensely talented developers just churning out iterations on the same game for a decade. It's especially frustrating to see Naughty Dog go back to Uncharted when A) they have a history of working on new franchises whenever they move to a new platform and B) they just came off of The Last of Us after making 3 Uncharted games and it's widely considered their best work.

Naturally, if TLOU was a result of them working on something completely different then, yeah, it really sucks that they went back to Uncharted given how fantastic TLOU turned out.

I can't blame publishers for wanting dev houses to stick to what they're good at.

Almost every gamer has their own Splinter Cell or Burnout franchise where they just want another and another.

Must be a very difficult line to walk for publishers to try new things or churn out another sequel. I don't get disappointed with them for making either choice.

now I'm remembering the random speculation about naughty dog making a space game based off that comic in the last of us. they should do that.

as long as it's the last one I'm cool with another uncharted, though. they need to end that series on a high note.

The potential inherent in a brand new story or idea is an alluring unknown as opposed to a sequel (generally speaking) being a known quantity.

I'm sure we all understand the economics of it (but it's not like The Last of Us bombed!), but this is more about personal taste. I'm sure both Alex and Patrick understand why they're gonna make Uncharted 4, but we're more talking about what they would most like to see them make. And that's not Uncharted 4. That said, of course that varies from franchise to franchise. I'd love a new Burnout, a new GTA (in 5 years) etc.

I guess I'm complacent then, since I really don't mind sequels as long as the story is new and it's a new experience even if it's similar gameplay. Like I could probably play tons of games with Nathan Drake and be fine as long as it's a new story.
